I am not sure if black finger jet is going to happen, no more footage and the dev made another game instead.
Last time I read about the game it was on hiatus.

Metal Slug is turning 30!
To mark the occasion, @SNKPofficial has announced that it plans to "revive and relaunch the series with a wide range of projects". What do you think? Will there be a new game? Will the entire series be coming to Neo-Geo AES+?
If they do that as an exclusive it will put the new Neo Geo console sales through the roof.Pro tier would be maintaining the original art style and rereleasing on the AES.
In some ways these projects are always doomed to fail from the start. You cannot go back home again. The worry is that any revival project decides to go for 3D to help stay under budget, but it's such a huge letdown when anyone does it. Bloodstained is the big one that comes to mind, but there have been plenty of others over the years that went 3D/polygonal. I can't think of an instance where it was neutral, let alone positive

Rebooting
Back into 2D on the AES.
Or in SNK's own case going from KOF 13 in 2d to 14 in 3d.The worry is that any revival project decides to go for 3D to help stay under budget, but it's such a huge letdown when anyone does it. Good shout. Pacman is an example of completely faithful to the point that it looks like a recreation in new stages, which I guess is easy when the source material is so simplistic. I think Strider looks better than Galaga does, but I think that's more about the effects used in Galaga than the models. If this is specifically about a 2D action game that stayed on a 2D plane but with 3D models. I can quickly think off the top of my head Bionic Commando Rearmed, Pac Man CE, Galaga Legions and Strider. There is a little hope.

The 3D isn't horrible here, but it definitely loses a lot of character from the previous. Being zoomed in also doesn't help, it just looks like a SF4 imitation.Or in SNK's own case going from KOF 13 in 2d to 14 in 3d.

KOF XII was already rotoscoping 3D models and the art style was hideously caricaturized and oversaturated.Or in SNK's own case going from KOF 13 in 2d to 14 in 3d.

I played it a week ago. With ink outlines for both characters without zoom in makes it looks like higher definition Alpha series. The animation is weird though. When was the last time you took a look at SF4?
Thank goodness SNK went from that to this:
It would be nice if I enjoyed playing it but neutral play is too rigid and movement too gimped. I also hate parries making even basic pokes unsafe for most of the cast. Awkward Arcade controls and streamlined as hell Smart controls both fail to hit the same level of intuitiveness as prior releases. Way too stressful unless I play Krauser but then I just connect with a long reaching normal and proceed to amplified special combo sequence on loop...Thank goodness SNK went from that to this:

So much more personality from artstyle to animation. During the 2010s, 3D animation for Japan was rough all around aside from a few exceptions. Even most 3D animated shows back then looked basic compared to the stuff today.
