Wow. Congrats to Sony. I guess this machine is a living proof that your console, in order to sell, doesn't need a GOAT game or a legendary franchise at launch to sell well, It's just a matter of intelligent advertisement that goes straight to the point and delivering a powerful machine without gimmicks and all that jazz -wich is exactly what gamers nowadays want-
Maybe you should read ninjablade's post again. He was actually complimenting Microsoft on doing almost everything correctly with the 360, except giving some momentum back towards the end of the cycle. That is quite correct and nothing delusional about it. He was purely talking from the market share perspective, which is correct. That's not the only pov, just like financial is also not the only one pov.Read my message again. X360 was a huge success for MS in consumer mindshare and also financially after the first Xbox.
This graph was behind your link:
I'm not trying to make this a console war thread, but ninjablade's comments are delusional imo (agree with StevieP) and I was trying to reply to him.
come on. no it hasn't.
xbone is outpacing the 360, so it is still in this race, even if it won't catch up.
that'll be U.S. I guess we'll never know for worldwide (I don't really know what media create is)
I think someone suggested the xbone is outselling ps4 in latin america because a lot of people are importing Ps4s to thereXbox is irrelevant outside of the US so NPD is all we need.
Well, maybe in Latin America.
Crazy that it's selling like it is without a price cut or really any major exclusive (sales wise, not quality wise), with the price cut and 2016 being the year their first party really get going, it probably isn't going to slow down anytime soon either.
BD drives are so cheap these days, while it gives the console access to a well etablished retail channel for games. I'm not sure why a company would want to not include a BD drive in their consoles for the next 10 years.

Control of all sales and prices. Higher margins.
Comparing PSVR to Google Glass is one hell of a lopsided comparison. Google Glass, the awkward thing you are meant to wear out in public, who's only benefit is a poor quality display floating in the corner of your vision to tell you what the weather is like or if you got a text message... hardly compares to something designed for living room use at home either by yourself or with a small gathering of friends/family, something which literally puts you in a game world and lets you interact naturally with that world. Be IN a Ferrari driving around Monza, stand ON the edge of a cliff overlooking the grand canyon, or a crater on the Moon... the two devices could not be more different.
VR delivers on it's promise in ways we could only have dreamed about a few short years ago. To overlook the huge ream of reaction videos from first timers trying these devices, to overlook the huge potential to change our world, and just lump it in with 3D glasses... madness. VR through word of mouth and public demo booths, will explode onto the wold's consciousness. Just wait until someone you know has it to try out, or it's on display at a local mall etc. Once people en masse, non gamers especially, see and experience VR, it will explode.
US and UK are Xbox's main markets. And New Zealand.
I think it's like what, 80-90% of the overall sales?
There is one HUGE problem here. I agree with everything you said, but the crucial thing to consider is, Playstation VR is not a singular platform. Its not like with the Wii craze where casual consumers went out and bought that console in droves. Once people experience PS-VR, or hear by it word of mouth or however, and become interested to go out and buy it...they'll be met with a wall. And that wall is, you need a PS4 in order to operate PS-VR. All of a sudden its not just one platform you need to buy at $200-$300, but two platforms.
And this will be a big hindrance to PS-VR's potential mass market success.
VR will not be a mass market success this generation. That has nothing to do with potential of VR or determining the success of VR. This generation will probably see a maximum 10 million adoption of PSVR at best ( Which is a great number) and that is okay. No one out there including Sony is predicting it will become a mass market device. You will see the adoption rate go up very high next gen and Sony wants to get in on the ecosystem and get its brand out there when that breakout eventually happens 5-6 years down the line.

Is it really? When the other two consoles aren't offering as good as this one, it's pretty clear that consumers would make this their console of choice this gen.
Charts
Is PS3 really supposed to be consistently ahead of 360 in that chart?
I believe America makes up about 60-70% of Xbox One's sales so yeah -- probably.
PS4 sales will shoot to the moon when VR drops. Got damn.
Microsoft is doing the same thing that Sony made with PS3, investing more in first-party line up.
They have in the bag Quantum Break, Recore, Scalebound, Crackdown, Fable Legends, Sea of Thieves, Gears 4... I think they're trying better than with 360.
It is.
1) PS2
2) PS1
3) Wii
Just meant PS4 will surpass the Wii over time and thus also pass the PS1. The Wii and PS1 are fairly close.
The Artisan you are my favorite poster in GAF, am not messing with you i just like your way of responding to people so chill and nonchalant *thumps up*
I can imagine a PS4 slim + vr headset for Christmas next year.
launch aligned the 360 was never really ahead of the PS3.

thanks guys. for the most part, I think neogaf is a good place for discussing video games, and other worldly stuff. I like being able to ask questions and find out about things I didn't know about before; and I have learned a lot just by conversing here.I totally agree. The Artisans composure really is inspiring.
I want a fat and quiet one...
And if PS3 ever does/has passed 360, that would mean four of the top five home consoles are PlayStation. It's be 1: PS2, 2: PS4 (according to your guess), 3: PS1, 4: Wii, 5: PS3. That's quite staggering.
I think someone suggested the xbone is outselling ps4 in latin america because a lot of people are importing Ps4s to there
MC tracks sales below 100? It is close.
do most of the people you know have a Ps4 rather than an xbone?I don't know about the rest of the Latin America, but I can see this being the case here in Brazil.
SO many people struggle to get their heads around this. For US and UK folks it's a totally counterintuitive fact about the last generation.
don't throw at me, but ain't it funny that this console sells so good even it has by far not all(!) the good features? It has some cool and most of all power, power power. But:
think of a PS4 with snapping Apps, backwards compatibility, the xbox one controller, voice control, windows 10 streaming and ea access - that would be cool. And it would mean 45 millionen sold.
But (in my eyes) unfortunately most of the cool things/features I like are things are on the other side. (Thats why their 14-15 million is good too).
PS4 numbers are fantastic!
That is because exclusive doesn't matter that much.
So Sony announced games dont appeal to you?
Dreams? Uncharted 4? Horizon? Ratchet? GT Sport? Detroit? No Man Sky´s? FireWatch? WatterFall? Street Figther V? The Last Guardian? Gravity Rush 2? Wild? Rime? Deawn to Death? The Tomorrow Children? Shadow of the Beast?
Please tell me more.
Zhuge mentioned ~70% a couple months ago.
While PS4 is around ~36%
Xbox live monthly active users numbers?so how do we gauge what the xbone's sales actually are?
Which tells a lot. People in gaming boards always mention the MS launch fuck up with onlinegate and TVTV. But I think this is exaggerated. It definitly had a big impact - but it's not the main reason. And people who choose a PS4 over a Xbox One right now, 2,5 years after launch, probably have never heard of it.
I don't want to talk about what MS did wrong - since this is not the right thread for it and it has been mentioned here a gazillion times.
Lets praise Sony instead:
Sony did something what no one ever did in the videogame business before, but even for general consumer electronics it is a great accomplishement: They launched in a timeframe of 3 month in 52 countries worldwide. With Japan as one of the last countries. *insert Japan meme here*
There are + ~190 UNO countries worldwide (so 1/3 of the world), but essentially the launched pretty much everywhere in the world at the same time, where a reasonable videogame business could work.
WW sales for Wii and PS2 might be stronger in comparison, but this was in a world where Japan was into homeconsoles and the Wii was a lot cheaper and also a phenomenon of its own. There must be countries or territories where the PS4 easily beats Wii and PS2 easily and where the PS4 will become THE defining console for a new generation of gamers and the fastest selling console of all time. US sales are ok - but Sony must have phenomenal sales in countries/territories where we usually never or rarely get numbers from.
Nice numbers but with NA/UK, Xbox live users + 1% of China I still think MS will win in the end.

Sarcasm?
