Sony is our enemy now?

I mean, with this whole negative response to their recent announcements with digital-only future, well, is that it?

Are we at the point where, just like when someone mentions an Xbox, and / or anything, or anyone related to it, there will be reactions with countless laughing emojis?

Yep. It's a complete anti-consumer move that only benefits them. There is zero benefit to the "players" by removing an option and forcing them into one ecosystem. It benefits Sony and the stockholders. Not only will I not buy a PS6, I won't buy any Sony product ever again. They've lost my trust.

Ending physical games, whilst it is a biggie and the main thing that pushed me against them isn't their only mistep.

It's been a good 5+ years of really destroying the reputation of the 1st party, the brand and just moving further and further away from the various things that made Playstation great in the first place.

No, but the current Sony is taking on an overly corporate/capitalist character under its current management, and it wouldn't hurt for users to remind them that we are their customers and that even bigger giants have fallen. A dose of humility.

If they respond with pro-user measures and good communication, they will regain the favor of their users, as they always have.

Considering their choices will ultimately kill console gaming for me, which has become my main way to experience the hobby, yes.
Along with their complete submission to woke garbage.

No. Everyone is just pretending to be upset. All those people making a big deal of not buying the PS6 will adjust and buy the PS6.

They say they won't, but even they know they will.

Taking away an option from the customers is not a good thing. Physical discs might be smaller percentage wise but they are still a sizeable market. I want to be able to play my discs from PS4 like DriveClub, which was delisted from PSN on the next generation consoles as well.

Snatching away this very important feature doesn't sit well with me.

I personally don't think it's that serious.

It isn't for most people that play games, clearly. It's a problem in many ways, of course, but if Sony had to do that right now it's because the finances for next-gen and PS5 prices for the next few years are not looking good at all.

None of the companies is your friend, there are here to make money just like all companies in the world.
This.

Also this will be forgotten about in like a quarter.

It ain't 2013 anymore, gaming has a big silent majority now that plays things like Fortnite, COD and EA FC, for whom this entire kerfuffle doesn't even penetrate their feeds. We are the loud ever-decreasing minority here.

Not sure about enemy, but they really are quite unpopular. They've underestimated the backlash, haven't they?

Companies are. Try think twice before licking any company balls. They are not your friend.
This. People need to educate themselves on the underlying issues in the domains of customer rights, preservation, digital sovereignty and ownership in the digital age. The only stable long term solution is free and open source software, not the games but the infrastructure supporting it. No private entity should be able to control as much as is the case today in the console space.

They never stopped. They just put on the good guy face and kept it on from the PS3 gen after getting their shit pushed in initially. Now that there is really no competition for them they took the disguise off again. Fuckers through and through

Not if you're a fan and already have invested in a big library of games there. Fans will go through the 5 stages of grief circle and in the end they will accept the change and will stick around.

Walking away sucks, I did it this generation but fortunately I had already started pulling away and only used PS for it's exclusives and there weren't all that many coming. Last couple years I've used PS5 under 20 hours each year. Today it's not a big deal but I would understand if fans stick around. Repurchasing games elsewhere feels awful, and starting over from scratch in every game and start hunting new achievements and so on.
