Sony is our enemy now?

Can't wait to hear what John 'Three-Chins' Linneman, 'Teeth' Leadbetter and the rest of the clowns at DF make of this. There will be much whining and crying and I will feed on it.

Sony is becoming EXTREMELY anti-consumer because

1. They fucked up their entire generation by focusing on GAAS and are now desperate for profits so will do anything they can, even if it means screwing over the entire industry

and

2. They feel as though they have no consequences for their actions now that Xbox is all but dead and they are the only high end console in town. This is why competition is Very Important.

I mean if they keep doing stupid bullshit, what is the expectation for the response?

People aren't a hivemind here though, plenty of people along the spectrum of don't care all the way to Sony bootlicker too.

None of these companies were ever your friend, but they're better when they have less control, and taking away physical adds no value to me the consumer...you just leave me with PSN, a worse digital storefront than Steam or GoG.

Companies aren't your friend. Some are lesser evil.
The PS brand has been living off the 2013 Xbox online DRM debacle since then.

Funny thing is MS reversed it so it never even happened. Yet gamer sentiment still lingers to this day as random people will still bring it up once in a while.

Well look at that, Sony is the same boat. But they stretched out the good PR they got above. But now it's time to dip their toes into heavy anti-consumer tactics since they believe Xbox is done. And Nintendo is their own universe. So now is the right time to strike thinking it's still a slam dunk over Xbox. So gamers will just give in as a gimme.

This time Sony did a triple crown of anti-consumer digital schemes in the same week...... deleted movies off people's accounts, shut down PS3/Vita stores, and no more game discs in 2028.

I want to see how ballsy gamers are who hated Xbox 2013 to do the same with PS. Espeecially if they plan to go through with it. At least MS reversed it by launch. So even if Sony reverses it and adds discs and disc drives again, the intent was still there. And publicly stated too 18 months away from it happening.

I'm waiting to receive my computer after years of not using a PC.

But it's true that the PC community on NeoGAF is like a group of vegans protesting outside a slaughterhouse.

I don't know how many threads about Sony have been started lately, but some people really ought to see a therapist and rethink their obsession with Sony PlayStation.

Yes.

If you're not already doing it, you should.

The only thing that will hurt them is their investors not being happy or the stocks tanking.

Social media is a powerful tool that has done various clapbacks and backlashes to make companies 180 their anti-consumer shit decisions. The recent one in the games industry being MS with the Xbone (even if that's 13 years ago, the point still stands) and it's always online drm and the mandatory kinect requirement, both of which they dropped after the industry took a collective shit on them.

Sony should fail the next generation so hard that they should fucking think 10 times before even announcing any press release going forward.

In the end it only helps you as a consumer.

Keep them in check and they will run back to you begging for that PlayStation Console revenue.

They're hiding like rats, just like Rockstar—waiting like f@ggots for some news from Xbox or Nintendo so they can slip out of the spotlight.

To hit that abusive, grotesque, and manipulative company with everything we've got.

No and they have never been our friends. None of these companies have, including valve. They are just a means to play games. Honestly these constant threads about PlayStation after the physical bombshell seem to either be a bunch of cunts rage baiting for engagement or a bunch of MS astroturfers trying to do some market research in an attempt to win the next round. None of these digital only solutions is perfect and it seems the solution for a lot of PC players if the shit hits the fan in your ecosystem is to just pirate your games. How the fuck is that a solution? A bunch of clowns throwing stones in a glass houses.

Just like the Steam Deck is the Switches competition.
While their revenue generated yearly is vastly different... the crazy thing is that Valve and PlayStation have about the same annual profit. Which is crazy when you think about it and underscores the gaping difference between these two companies.

As for Sony being the enemy now? I couldn't care less; I have been all digital from when the PS4 launched or even slightly before that. And this was bound to happen sooner or later.

Just like the Steam Deck is the Switches competition.

Nah most Nintendo customers wouldn't be able to work a Deck. Sony's customer base aligns better with what Valve offers. That's def part of why Sony stopped putting their games on Steam.

I mean why would you want to pay for a super expensive subscription just to play online for the games you already bought - if you dont even have physical media you might as well play for free on pc

You mean open digital platform is the same as the walled garden monopoly that sony is offering?
I am finding this confusing... haven't consoles ALWAYS been walled gardens?

I mean, a PC is an open platform, and in every sense of the word that means you have an infinite number of configurations, multiple supported operating systems, stores, hacks and even piracy.

Consoles are and have always been closed platforms, which means fixed hardware made, marketed and sold by one company; everything within that hardware and around it is usually designed by that company, specifically for that company, down to the OS and peripherals. They even make the hardware you use to make games for their platform. But most importantly, every monetary transaction comes back to the platform holder. Down to what percentage of it gets disbursed to their partners.

Why are people talkig like all of a sudden this has changed?

The only thing that has changed, the "anti-consumer" move so to speak, is calling curtains on one of their two models of distribution, which happens to be the model that stood to hurt their sales numbers or revenue the most. Which also happens to be the model that is trending downwards. So what exactly has changed? And before anyone says..."ownership", if that is the case how is Steam any better on that front?

Cause as it stands, the only benefit I see as far as Steam is concerned is the potential of better deals for games or lower prices.... that I can't argue about, but then again... is that cause or reason to hate a platform? Because we can't get things for cheap? If that was cause enough, then shouldn't we all hate Nintendo?

Not sure about enemy, but they really are quite unpopular. They've underestimated the backlash, haven't they?
No.

They know you'll get over it, quit being dramatic and buy it anyway.

Once again, everyone clutching pearls right now will be buying a PS6.

Sony is not buying the dramatics.

Hmmm... you see, statements like these are disingenuous. Why?

Because it makes no mention of the fact that the super expensive $135 (PS+E) you pay every year isn't just for online gaming. If you had to tell the truth and also mention that you get 150 games each year too, you probably wouldn't be saying that.

But yh, let's just pretend that all you get for that subscription is to play online.

You dramatic cunts, the industry has been moving towards digital for well over 15 years, it's something all companies want, none of them are your friends not even your precious valve and suddenly you're all shocked and outraged that future is finally here

but they dont even offer a tier without games - there exists people that don't want their curated games and won't play them. You also dont "keep them" as you have to keep your subscription up so that's disingenuous to say you get 150 games

And that is all just nonsense, like grasping at straws, or pushing a totally outlandish false narrative to make a point.... curated games? Don't wanna play them?... we can't talk about deals on one hand and then chastise someone else for giving you 150 games every year for $135.

Curated or not, that's 90 cents per game. And how many people really pay for that service and don't play at least 2 or 3 of those games each year?

You get everything you have "purchased" in your library, as long as you have the subscription active, and the game hasn't been taken out of rotation. And that's fair, its like being a member at a video club or something, or like renting a game.

So you can choose to look at it as if you are paying to play online, because you will not play ANY of the games they put on there. Or you can choose to look at it as, I can play online, and I get lots of games too.

This isn't just about digital though. Gaas and pisspoor first party output have been common complaints about Sony all generation long. They way they went about cutting off physical disc for PS5 was just the final straw for a lot of us.

But we are going to point out "dramatic cunts" then let's start with the over the corporation defense being put on display. Fucking cringe man
