Starfox |OT| Copilot.....Do a Barrel roll!

Just unlocked Expert Mode.

Was easier than I thought - the ability to redo any mission without losing your upgrades + bombs, and lives is a godsend. Simply stock up 9 bombs, then use them in a mission to earn your medal; afterwards, rerun the level, use no bombs, and bam, you are in the next mission with 9 bombs and you keep your medal anyway.

Rinse and repeat.

Now to unlock expert difficulty and see how it is. Also need to try the new battle mode.

What if Velan studios is doing the Zelda remake too
They don't have the capacity for that but it wouldn't surprise me if we see the exact same design philosophy in OoT remake (expanded cutscenes, full voice acting, completely redone animation and graphics, nearly identical gameplay with a few modern enhancements).

I started a new easy route playthrough to start getting medals. I wish Peppy would stop bringing up how dead my dad is.

On my second run through atm, this was exactly what I wanted. Multiplayer is interesting but only played a few rounds so far.

Shame about some of the voices but the visuals and music are stunning. I am looking forward to expert mode as I regularly play SF64 and so some extra challenge is necessary.

I really enjoyed starfox zero even though I hated the controls on the first playthrough. Played that game for hours a day for like 6 months, but going back a few days ago I was back to being useless. Here I am right at home and I am sure many people who hated the last one will enjoy this.

Expert down

My hands hurt. Star Wolf was not cooperative in taking a hit, and Gorgon was a pain, he leaves little room for error on this difficulty.
Was very fun though.

I'm so stuck on multiplayer. A few games I swear I felt like Top Gun Maverick. My team mate had the cargo trying to get it back to base. He had 2 guys lighting him up. I swooped in shot them both down and escorted him to safety. It was so satisfying! People you don't understand this is what I've been dreaming about for so long. 😭

Back in the day I beat SF 64 at least dozens of times. Maybe over 100. I don't know. It's all about replayability and perfecting the levels and growing your score.

If all you want to do is beat it once or twice you're not going to get the most out of it, yeah.

I also remember Nintendo power publishing top user scores and my personal score was way over their published number 1. I wish I had sent in my score. But I actually still have the photo of my score so if I knew what issue those scores were in I could prove it.

Pretty sure the internet has demolished what I got back then though.

Please show me your old school score! There was one particular Nintendo Power score that I could not beat and if you did then holy smokes! I didn't understand how to keep a charge unlocked as a kid, so I was trying to get those extra hits by shooting the blast a beat before it locked on. It worked well enough but I essentially played it harder than it needed to be.

Also a friend of mine who plays nothing but farming simulators, cozy titles as the kids call them and Animal Crossing picked this up. Apparently she loves it and loves the short run times. She said it's just enough to not be overwhelmed and feel accomplished.

Finished yesterday, and later I'll play more

I was afraid at first with the characters, but I changed my mind and really works. The story has more depth now and new interactions within Great Fox really shows that they're mercenaries, while with the original kinda looked they're some sort of elite soldiers of General Pepper

Music is also perfected here. The original score is as emblematic as every other thing, so doing a rearrange was the right choice since changing it would be insane - fuck you, REmake 2

But yeah, there is problems... The art direction of the original was made thinking in the hardware limits, but worked nice for the game to see enemies and other shenanigans. Now with the realistic design everything is kinda blended and without the feeling of the original. Enemies, sound effects, visual effects, the big fucking missiles in Sector Z, the extreme waves of Solar... everything is kinda weaker than the original. The most affected of all is the voice acting, that in the N64 was full of energy and charisma, and now it's too normal, and in the multiverse that we never got the N64 game and only has this version, I don't think we would never have "do a barrel roll" as a meme

But yeah, it's a very solid remake. The 64 is a remake of the SNES first game, but then it has the 3DS version and now we have for Switch 2, but I think it's ok. It's fair to say that this was the masterpiece and everything else in the series was good at max, so a sequel in another galactic system with even the same direction would be nice - Star Fox Assault, you're not good

He's dead as fuuuuuuuuuuck!

Every time you see "Mission Accomplished"

fuck yeah yas GIF

Edit: That might be my only complaint so far is the sound effect that reveals mission complete or accomplished is gone.

Just did my first complete run. Awesome stuff, the improvement in presentations really does add a lot to this game imo. The OST is phenomenal as well.

So this is the photo I have of my old high score, taken off my original n64 cart from 1997 or so. The photo itself was taken around 2015, I had given the system and games to my sister and her kids played it. So I was over there once and I fired it up to see if my scores were still there because I remembered the Nintendo Power story and just wanted to record it since those carts don't last forever.

So I am sure this score is no longer impressive compared to what's been done. But again, this is before the internet was really a thing, and I was comparing it to published Nintendo Power high scores. Would love to find that issue again. Maybe I'll try and figure out what issue that was.

Also, your friends' take on the short run times is dead on. That's part of the point. Just playing it over and over and over again to try and master the levels. I used to turn off the aiming reticule too because I didn't need it and it just got in the way visually after a certain point.

Hey if anyone is curious about multilayer, add me and invite me, I'll drop most any play session to join someone. When I invited friends we were always on the same team with randoms, so I assume the game forces that until it's 5 or more friends in one group.

I forgot how difficult true Andross was and the fight against star wolf on Venom. I managed to beat them and win on my first campaign but absolutely sucked and died after my second. I wish there were more rings (gold and otherwise) at the last level.

I will say the game is absolutely gorgeous. The lava planet Solaris and water planet Aqua really show the capabilities the Switch 2 can do graphically.

Only played a couple of levels so far, but DAMN it's good to be back. This is exactly what I'm looking for in games today. Pop in the cart, press power and just play. No fucking store, forced online or other bullshit. Well, except for the patch or whatever it wanted to download right away, but other than that...

Now we wait for the Wave Race 64 remake.

Cleared Expert with all Medals.

The main reason for Expert to be difficult is that certain hits from bosses instantly destroy one of your wings meaning you are back to the shitty single laser for the rest of the fight. For example I actually have no idea how to dodge the tentacles from Gorgon in Area 6. I barely beat him on Expert after many many tries. Star Wolf also was a huge pain in the ass on Venom 2. You have to be fast shooting them down otherwise you get less points which then means no medal. Hard as fuck with only the single laser.

Switching shooting to Y and Boost and Brake to the shoulder buttons really helped a lot. Really baffling they don´t offer this as a native option in the game menu. But at least you can set them in the system menu on switch.

Beat all the levels on normal, had 11 extra lives and... died 11 times to Star Wolf and team on the Venom 2 mission.

Continued on Easy and cleared it. Man, fuck that Star Wolf battle and fuck all range mode.

I know I'm going to gush over this more than the average person but this game has a special place in my heart and man, this is one hell of a remake. Holy shit Nintendo, gg
I'm with you. I loved SF64 (aside from things like the bad music samples but man does this game fix that).

This game is literally how I envisioned StarFox looking as a kid. I really, really hope they take the work they've done on this and make a new game with some bigger more modern feeling levels. You can tell that the levels are a product of their time in terms of length and scope. They could make something fantastic for Switch 2.

I wish there was a "falco mode" where you play every flight (non-all-range mode) mission back to back. More of a shmup experience. Game also would really benefit from online leaderboards; replays would be even better. Indie games made by one dude have been doing it for years.

Cleared my run that I've been working on one level at a time over the last few days. Lol.

In the end I really like the remake, visually it's fantastic and while I do like the music some of the new tracks or versions really are subdued compared to the original in certain moments and a little bit depressing for that. But overall the quality of music is excellent of course.

Voice over still kind of sucks though, I mean it's good but a lot of the key moments for me are completely lost. And draws VA really sucks and lost all character. The line for example "only I have the brains to rule Lylat" no longer sounds cool at all and used to be one of my favorites in the game. There are various instances in the game like this where I was expecting a line and waiting for it instead the delivery sucks because of the new voice actors or a change in delivery, like the aforementioned Southern General on the train level Macbeth.

Overall the voice acting is the biggest stain on this remake for me but I enjoyed my playthrough and I'll be playing it again for sure to get through all of the levels and go for the medals. Awesome pick up and play game just like it's always been, I've put many, many hours into Star Fox 64 playing it as recently as a few years back. It's one of those games I'll never stop playing and outside of the iconic voice acting, this could be a replacement but we'll see in time whether I drift back toward the original 64 version or stay with this one.

Here is my complete screen for my first run of the game and the route I took.

I finished my first run, that was super fun game! I dont mind being short because it makes much easier to do multiple playthroughs.

Stop using your Switch 2 as a skateboard, please.

This game rocks. The musical score is tremendous. I felt I was really peaking in the Area 6 Boss fight when the chorus hit, but the 2nd Star Wolf battle was my personal highlight.

Incredible product from this studio, and it just leaves you ready for an original take from them. They really really cooked with this one.

This really is how I like my remakes. Keeping it as the original with a fresh coat of paint with some qol stuff. Having cut scenes instead of the faces popping up is a perfect example of a good thing to do imo
I've been going back to retro gaming heavily and I was really happy to see starfox get great treatment and hope this paves the road for a new one

Buy some adhesive felt spacers and install four on the inside of the dock on the plastic that faces the screen.

This guy went all out, I just used felt circles and put two of them on each end of the dock where he is using strips.

I'll look into it. I'm just so glad I didn't even put it into the dock at all until I got a screen protector. I thought the complaints online at launch were overblown but they certainly are not.

OG Switch Dock was really bad with this, didn't realize Switch 2 Dock was the same way. I put felt circles in mine right when I opened the box and I never even undock my Switch 2. haha
