Super Mario Odyssey |OT| RSVP: Guests of the Groom

Looks like the internet overreacted to New Donk City. It's fine in game.

Ended up being my favourite level of the lot. The number of ways you can get around from building to building is staggering, and becoming familiar with the layout slowly over time is one of the most satisfying moments in games this year. For me, anyway - I love how the game has no minimap.

for all of you bitching that it’s too easy - finish the game first. the entire first playthrough is essentially a prologue

They've just never played 3D Mario before. Everyone else knows this has been how these games work for about a decade or so?

I think, though I'm not 100% sure, that you can get all the coloured coins during the first playthrough.

Having the Bowser amiibo has helped me a LOT to find them.

Damn, so those last 3 are not in the same place as the Moon in the skyscraper? Shit.

Circling hat? Works like SPin Attacking in Skyward sword. Move/shake both joycons side to side quickly. To give an idea hold both joycons infront of you and quickly shake them horizontally (don't twist your wrists) from left to right and back quickly.

Believe me once you find the correct gesture it' ll work fine 100% of the time, you just need to experiment a bit.

You can also spin the analogue stick and then press Y after Mario twirls, works every time.

Other moves work if you mess about with the buttons. Like the stretching bug creature can stretch further without a Joy-Con shake, hold B to stretch, then hold B as well.

I've found a small extra move that mario can do- it's not very useful, but if you press jump right as cappy returns to his head after a throw you can do a little spin hop for a tiny bit of extra height and distance.
Could be applied to extend throw > dive > throw > dive combos, speedrun tech maybe?

It also works on the ground, but more or less acts like a regular jump.

How many moons can you buy per level? On Cap Kingdom I just bought 31, just wondering if there was a finite amount per level and if so what it was.

Stop now before you spend all your money.
There is no limit, it's to ease the post-game grind to 500 moons. Only one per world counts toward progression.

I've only been to two kingdoms so far, excluding Cappy's, and I am elated. The moment the music kicked in in Cascade Kingdom, I know this is going to be one hell of a ride. I really wish it had more control options, as I mostly play it on handheld mode. Still, can perform well without the complex movesets.

Still thats no excuse for an underwhelming (in terms of diff) main plot.something should change at least 64 had higher difficulty if you were to get 60 stars.

Galaxy 2 was better as well i think something should change

The number of times I’ve geeked already must be reaching double digits, but New Donk City small spoilers:
the street names being names from Donkey Kong County (Cranky, Rambi, Krool, etc.) made me almost lose my mind

The store owner in the Cap Kingdom let me purchase 20 moons from him before I ran out of money. Was that intentional? Does this guy ever run out?

Nope, we were just talking about this above, I think it's endless and just a way of ranking up your moon count if you want to speed up the process.

Mot just the street names, and not just
DKC
. It's got references to pretty much every
DKC/DK game
, on all sorts of things.

Ah, I see. Well now I feel like I cheated a bit! But no biggie. I guess it's just a grindy way to let everybody see all the moon unlocks even if they're having trouble completing challenges.

I'm glad I didn't go digital with this. Don't get me wrong it's a great game but I'm on the last world already and see no desire to go back and replay for coins/moons...very short, easy game.

I’m really not enjoying this game too much and I can’t place why. I’ve loved every other mainline Mario game.

It seems like you can’t perform about half of the cap controls if you disable motion controls for the pro controller, is that right or am I missing something? It seems like half of the buttons are duplicated in the controls, so I’m not sure why they couldn’t spread the moves out across more buttons.

Fuck! Oh well you live and learn.

Not particularly annoyed by it just wish it was cleared on that.

It's the best 3D platformer level ever made.

While I've basically gotten 95% of its moons it's basically the 'hub world' for me, a place to come back to and mess about in to my heart's content.

That's the beauty of Odyssey, sure, you might want more challenge but you can always find more creative solutions to accomplishing everything. It's definitely channelling the spirit of 64 in that respect. And compared with 64, the objectives are a lot more creative. In retrospect 64 has rather dull objectives (beat the bully. get the 8 red coins. find the mountaintop secret) but the journey to accomplishing them was always varied and required problem solving via the mechanics. Odyssey definitely goes the extra mile in the variety of its objectives, though it's worth noting that more of them are short-form challenges, whereas 64 had a lot more long-form challenges (e.g. the red coins were always dotted around the entire world rather than a single area). Same goes for Sunshine - there's nothing in Odyssey that's like Yoshi's Fruit Adventure, for instance.

Wearing swim trunks, the pitter-patter of his little feet scampering around just brings me joy beyond words.

Zero shame with these suicide posts.

Just add them to your ignore list and carry on with the thread until a mod does their thing.

The person who posted that images are Childers and no better than what they are talking about. Does the person realized they are offending others with those image and can be considered as a form of sexual assault that could bring about law suit. Nope probably not.

Zarro, you are a pathetic human being. Why do you think it's okay to force that upon me? I could've been at work, too. If you want to leave, leave.

It's ironic how low these guys will go to protest someone else

Yeah, infact are just as reprehensible, those images can ruin peoples lives if browsing from work, any poster that does the above is a piece of shit. Fuck off Zarro, only point your making is that its you who's harming others and should be blocked from all forums.

5 moons away from the final world, the excitement. Does anyone else feel a bit bad about
buying extra moons? I know it's not actively removing them from the rest of the game but I feel like it'd cheat me out of a certain sense of accomplishment.

Clearing out the wooded kingdom was super fun, though there are still a few moons that Talkatoo doesn't seem to know about. Guess I'll be coming back again later.

Because if it gets a GAF reader fired or otherwise in serious trouble, they will consider it a victory. True colours are being shown.

I am at work and that is really messed up. I used to think suicide posts were funny but now the protest is putting my job (and others presumably) at risk. This has to stop.

Question, can I get every Power Moon from the stages the first time I visit, or do some of them need something from the other stages, before they become available.

It's truly messed up. You're messing with people's jobs.

Funny thing is that these are the people that'll help build the other forum ....

Disgusting...

Honestly, we don't know really. Lots of good and reputable people in the other forum. I do hope these porn posters are banned from joining it, but many are using junior alts, so hard to tell.

I am shocked by this last page and have to reconsider visiting this forum. For a while at least. I could have been on my work laptop for fucks sake.

Such a terrible shame, this is my second most loved internet site.

Jesus, that is not the kind of moon we're looking for in one of those images thank you very much.

Eyyy

You can't get them all on your first visit, but there are no "activate thing in world A to change something in world B" situations as far as I've seen.

No some of them you will have to come back for.
for example teleporting by a painting

There's 800 moons altogether isn't there? I just assumed you'd found every one if you say you've finished it.
I have 562 moons

There's no point in continuing since you dont get anything if you get all the moons. 560 is the max you need to unlock all the content in the game

First Bowser Boss fight was incredibly fun. I wouldn't call this game difficult, I would call it fun.

People think a game has to have a certain level of difficulty to be fun which is not the case. Boss fights don't have to be hard to be a boss fight. I rather a boss fight be creative, fun, and intuitive, that's not saying there's no challenge. There definitely is challenge.

But then again, we always have that lot of people who are super surprised a Mario game is easy. Yes, they're easy, but that's not its goal. It's goal is to be creative and fun with a slight to moderate challenge.

I would also like if people put spoiler tags on Moon count, post game additions, and mid to late content. I believe there is a spoiler thread.

I get where you're coming from, but I think the point of continuing beyond that point is that a person finds fully exploring the levels actually fun?

On going beyond the amount of moons you need:
There's a "reward" for getting 999. You'll definitely need to use shops to hit that much.

Also the other point of getting every moon is that you get to play more Mario Odyssey.

You do; once when collecting all available moons in the kingdoms something happens, then once again when you hit 999. Nothing major, but still cool. :)
