A short clip shared on social media reveals that the next instalment in the Super Woden GP series will feature a traditional chase camera, replacing the isometric perspective in previous entries. ViJuDa teases to expect something "very different and very similar at the same time."

Rally Edge switched from a fixed isometric view to a top-down chase camera perspective, but Super Woden GP 3's is significantly lower and closer to the car. That means this will be the first fully 3D entry.

The video clip showcases a reworked version of the previous game's Denise Beach circuit, known in the third entry as Denise North, with new sections and a 3D environment. An additional screenshot highlights a reimagined version of Astral Speedway.

Speaking to Traxion, the indie developer confirmed that a bumper camera will also be available, along with a viewpoint further behind the car, but the game will primarily focus on a "closer, more traditional chase cam experience."

Work on the third Super Woden entry started while work on Rally Edge was wrapping up. "During the final stages of Rally Edge, I was already laying the groundwork for what could become GP3," ViJuDa tells Traxion.

Incidentally, a chase camera is also accessible in Rally Edge via a hidden cheat menu screen, though the game is not designed to be played from this perspective. This seemingly laid the groundwork for the third Super Woden GP's new perspective.

"I love Rally Edge, but I'm also deeply drawn to other motorsport disciplines. Focusing only on rally started to feel a bit like having an iron ball chained to my ankle," ViJuDa reflects.

Released in 2021 and 2023, respectively, the first two Super Woden GP games feature arcade-style racing, with unlicensed facsimiles of real-world cars and an expansive career mode. Everything is presented on a top-down map screen evoking classic Gran Turismo games.

ViJuDa reveals that Super Woden GP 3's driving experience will be "more simcade than arcade this time," with grippier handling than before: "Gran Turismo 2 is my benchmark in that regard."

With development at a "very early stage," a release window has yet to be confirmed, and further details are being kept under wraps for now. Platforms are also unconfirmed, though previous entries initially released on PC before being ported to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. But the solo developer has a clear vision for what they want to achieve in the third game.

"Everything flows much better due to the experience gained from previous games," ViJuDa reveals. "It's shaping up to be something very close to the kind of racing game I've always wanted to make."
