I thought I'd chip in.
First of all, I'd like to send my condolences to Col Rodgers, I wish him and his family all the good fortune in the world. This should never have happened, and I'm glad that GAF has taken a firm stance on this issue so that it is perfectly clear that these kinds of slanderous statements will never be accepted. Not only do they set a dangerous predicament for the people accused in question, but they most often than not are entirely false. No man or woman should ever have to explain anything regarding their private matters. Sure, it's only natural to want to know the reasons for departures and what not, as most people are genuinely curious, but that doesn't justify the fact that we need to know anything. All that is relevant is the fact that people are either present or have departed. That's it; beyond that is none of our business. There could be a wide array of reasons for a person to leave a project or a company. Some are for professional reasons, others are, as in this case, for private matters. If you for whatever reason want to leak something, make sure that you definitely don't slander a person, and be very careful and considerate when making claims that you feel have substance. The onus is ultimately on you to back up, and if you can't do that, then it's better to not say anything at all. Your word is only as good as it proves to be, in the end.
Don't feel discouraged to post rumors, but please, be considerate, especially when it comes to other people.
