The US Ambassador to the United Nations offered a strong condemnation of Russia in her first appearance at the UN Security Council on Thursday, calling on Moscow to de-escalate violence in eastern Ukraine and saying that US sanctions against Moscow will remain in place until it withdraws from Crimea.

"The United States continues to condemn and call for an immediate end to the Russian occupation of Crimea," said Nikki Haley, President Donald Trump's envoy to the world body. "Crimea is a part of Ukraine. Our Crimea-related sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns control over the peninsula to Ukraine."

Haley's remarks were notable for the stark difference between her rhetoric and Trump's.

On the campaign trail, the President hinted he might recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea. And at a news conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May last week, he said it was "too early" to discuss sanctions.

Someone miss a memo?

She's about to be out of a job. Like for real, I will not be surprised if she is fired. If it's even possible for her to be fired like that.

"Shit we've been dealing with the fallout of all this other shit that we forgot to give Nikki Haley her state approved talking points!"

Her day serving in that capacity for the US will still have more character to it than the entire term of Trump's presidency

Good to hear. Let's see if the orange authoritarian says anything otherwise.

Wouldn't be surprised if they say one thing and do another (regarding lifting sanctions).

I'm wondering if they are going to just shitcan her, give her a warning, or if they're just going to let her keep it up because the UN doesn't do anything besides stern warnings and finger wagging anyway.

Still, I'm glad to see that sort of condemnation, if only we could make something of it.

That Putin call didn't go so great, I take it? Or perhaps they are figuring how to reduce violence, lift sanctions, and get the pipeline going through shenanigans?

They want a pipeline through the Ukraine right? The Ruskies?

That's funny, as of early December 2016, the annexation of Russia was accepted by the international community, but not recognized. It was a de facto thing, and no one was challenging Russia on this one anymore (except for Ukraine for obvious reasons).

Funny how the new UN ambassador for the US brought this back to the table suddenly.
Curious to hear more about this next week.

Trump undermine the UN by shit talking about it
Anything he wants to do he won't be doing via a bunch of diplomats who just take long lunches or whatever he said

It's a dog and pony show, putin knows it, trump knows it. A circus for the people.

Do these comments make you:

1. Reevaluate your opinion on Trump and Russia?

or

2. Make you think she's gonna get fired?
