Most games are not released in physical format this days, and this will only get worse.Games will launch with 1 GB on the disk and mandatory 100 GB day1 "patch".
it's going to call : Super Nintendo X
It's a good thing that they going back to carts again.
People like playing something fast on to go.
But you could save them on carts if they have a large rewritable space included (which some rumors hinted at IIRC). You could also save DLC in the cart. What's patches got to do with discs/carts? You can't save patches on discs.
Probably. Why else would she finish with her rumors now? This is getting to exciting! So this is why ArcadeGirl64 is going to stop with the NX rumours. It's finally going be announced soon.

Ugh, it's a portable/tablet with a dock. Of course it's going to use carts.
There's something somewhat ironic about the Atsushi Osanai quote.
SDXC trumps Vita too, it's cards are sub-Class 10 speed. Really cheap and slow.eh, that's asking Nintendo to be cutting edge so I wouldn't get my hopes up. At least SDXC still trumps the read/write speeds of disc based consoles and competes with the Vita.
Supposedly cards will be 32GB for launch. This probably means it won't be long until we see 64GB cards if past Nintendo handhelds are anything to go by, their format storage capacities tend to historically double within the first year from launch.Games will launch with 1 GB on the disk and mandatory 100 GB day1 "patch".

In fact, I think it may be an advantage of carts above discs...
I hope they'll do this. I'm annoyed I have to update ALL my pokemon games on ALL my consoles.
Are you guys serious or what? Why everybody thinks of SNES and Game Boy cartridges type when the ones that NX will use will be at least like the 3DS ones if not even smaller?
Yes 3DS uses cartridges too! Megaton!
Optical discs on consoles will be smaller than game cards soon probably. Storage isn't an issue but expense might be.I think size might be a problem for 3rd party ports/games seeing how game sizes and everyone is using Bluray.
Yes 3DS use cartridge but it's a portable and this one supposed to be both portable/home console.
Wasn't it rumoured that Nintendo went with the same card maker as the ones that did DS and 3DS? Why would they go with Toshiba or Samsung?
This is a Wii U successor as well as a 3DS successor. Why are we saying 'going back to carts'?
Their handhelds have always been carts, right?
Or is the NX now not a handheld?
I'm confused!
A real shame. There is a warmth you get when playing a game off a disc that you can't really replicate with flash based storage.
NX is apparently ahead of schedule for release in march.I have a feeling they will announce it in January next year. They showed us a bunch of 3DS games yesterday and I don't think they want to sabotage the 3DS christmas sales by showing you a better and newer product before that. They want to give the 3DS sales a last bump by releasing 3DS Galaxy. But that's just my gut feeling.
That would also mean that the real release isn't March 2017. I think they gave us that date because they wanted to make investors and fans happy but also knew, that this wasn't possible.
My theory: Show the console in January, show games at E3 2017 and release it Fall 2017.
But I hope it wont come to this .

If this is the case, Nintendo's gonna have to do a shit-ton of damage control with their investors. And I'm not sure if a handful of new games for an otherwise dying platform will be enough to keep them satisfied. And while sure, there's always the mobile games, their most successful mobile game (Pokémon GO) wasn't a result of the DeNA partnership & the one that was didn't hold its popularity for that long (hopefully that changes for Animal Crossing & Fire Emblem).I have a feeling they will announce it in January next year. Someone here suggested Nintendo Go. I like that, and I believe it to be true.
Do large sized cartridges cost more than discs? If that's the case I can't see publishers being too happy about that.

They've been using cartridges all this years. The 3DS uses them and considering the alleged dimensions, it would be something like that.If Nintendo nails the cartridge look and makes it reminiscent for nostalgia lovers they might be on to a winner. You could imagine them market it in a way that they might pull some of the hardcore fan base and adults who use to play NES back. I like the prospect of what they could achieve but I think they might fall short and push out another white plastic box.
Either analysts are wrong (as usual) or Nintendo holds a digital event and has press hands-on a week or two later. We'll know by Tuesday.
They'd still have games to release for the rest of the year as well as the next year, right? Those games could be shown at E3 2017.I thought these were rumors? Doesn't have to be true.
Don't get me wrong, I want to have it as soon as possible too but don't you think releasing a console 3 months before E3 is weird?
There are 3 scenarios:
They release the console in March and show you all the upcoming games (they need to show you everything they can to convince you to buy it) - Then what will they show at E3?
They release in March but only release BotW and some smaller games. That would be fatal.
They unveil the console before E3 but the full blow-out is at E3 and they release it shortly after.
That's why I said apparently in my reply and not a flat answer.I thought these were rumors? Doesn't have to be true.

Guess they could shape them as small NES cartridges if anything. But looks won't do much on such small size.
I like carts better except for the fact your saves are on them.
You always have to think twice before trading in a cart because you won't get your saves back.
NOt that Nintendo couldn't fix that in 2 seconds, but I think they like it.
Oh really @_@It's actually happening soon!
From a raw materials standpoint solid state will always cost more than optical. Of course that cost can be mitigated through licensing, logistics, etc. And given that digital is orders of magnitude cheaper than both, and that's where the industry's headed anyway, it's sort of a moot point long term.Do large sized cartridges cost more than discs? If that's the case I can't see publishers being too happy about that.
Thraktor put up a huge list of why cartridges are a good idea a while back. If I had the link, I'd post it.
Is the common opinion still that this console is coming out around March time? Never seems like a good time to launch a console to be honest...
