New Fatal Frame game announced for Wii U

I'm surprised.
The last FF game on the Wii sold like 20k.

Are you talking about the remake? I think Fatal Frame 4 actually sold slightly better than the previous installments in Japan w/ 75K. Even the Wii remake sold 45K (1, 2, and 3 sold 45K, 68K, and 69K respectively). It's a very low-selling franchise, but it seems to sell fairly consistently in Japan at the very least.

See this, Nintendo? This is what's going to make me buy your freaking console.

Don't fuck it up, NoA.
It is ironic Nintendo's crazy experiments in control methods fit so well with their sanitized happy worlds and also horror games. Wiimote's lantern, Gamepad camera obscura.

Btw, does anyone look at this like Sonic Boom? A franchise that's trying to gain more popularity via a cross-media campaign despite being solely game focused before? If the movie, comic or novel gets popular, I could see that helping the game. In all honesty, is any Tecmo-Koei franchise doing well these days? It might be why they're willing to partner up with Nintendo as much as they have.

They seem to be doing OK overall. Ninja Gaiden is bound for the glue factory these days, but Dynasty Warriors keeps chugging along just fine, Toukiden did well and has a lot of potential, and buying Gust was a good move on their part since the Atelier series is steady as a rock. It seems like the f2p DOA5 does fine, too.

Well, I'm kind of inspired now to pluck up the courage and think about actually completing that Project Zero (Fatal Frame) game I do have a copy of on the PS2 at last.

Actually looking forward to this, despite my general lack of constitution for genuine shit-your-pants horror.

Dammit have to buy a wiiU now...

Not going to be stupid though - will import the USA model since there's no way in hell it's getting a PAL release.

I think a PAL release is more likely than NA at his point, but I'm hope I'm wrong and it gets release in both territories!

Like Outlast, but Wii U don't have Outlast right now.

The point is, i like Fatal Frame but Wii U not much (maybe after Smash Bros i will consider my position), so, i don't want buy a console for a single digit of games.
Then don't.
If I had say, an XB1, I would only have like one game that I like. So I won't get one now. Pretty simple.

No obligation.

Yeah, I think it was the remake.

The one game I was waiting for on WiiU!

I still can't believe they skipped 4&2 but gave us the god awful Spirit Camera. Hopefully we never get another AR horror game (this gen).

Tomodachi. Worldwide simultan release of X and Pokemon. Nintendo translating more and more games in general. Yes, a pattern.

X is getting a worldwide simultaneous release? When was that announced? I thought only Japan had a timeframe announced and the rest of the world is TBA.

Why not save the announcement until E3? That'd give this much more exposure.

I'd venture a guess that we'd see a trailer at E3, perhaps in a sizzle reel. People are forgetting that this is a ultra niche franchise that would be lucky to sell 150k worldwide.

Not to mention there's no point to show it at E3 if NoA don't plan on localising it... (Though I do believe it will be localised, as people have already mentioned, Spirit Camera saw a worldwide release, FFIV didn't mainly because Tecmo-Koei refused to fix gamebreaking bugs and FFII Remake was only released in Europe because NoA had basically given up on the Wii by 2012 and wasn't localising anything (Which is why we saw the mass localisation of Japanese games by NoE).
It would be lunacy if this wasn't localised, Hopefully it is actually FFV and not a inane spin-off like Spirit Camera.

It's been rumored that NoE are concurrently translating it as it is being developed, although of course this hasn't been confirmed and is pure conjecture. I highly doubt it will be a simultaneous release, but I don't think we'll have to wait as long as we did for Xenoblade/Last Story.

What?! The gamepad could be utilised so well! Eeee, very excited.

(Cleans dusty Wii U) *whispers to wii u* - love you

1. Bring new Fatal Frame to NA.
2. Implement full GamePad integration.
3. Jump scares will cause people to drop the GamePad in fear. GamePad breaks.
4. Customer will have to buy new GamePad.
5. ???
6. PROFIT.

Do it Nintendo.

Not like the Wii U has many games they could throw it a bone this time or somethin.

Depressing isn't it?

Finally with X getting a quick NA release confirmation and Nintendo publishing Hyrule Warriors outside Japan I feel confident in the game coming over to the US.

I don't think the obvious result of Nintendo publishing a Zelda IP action spin-off bodes anything for the more obscure or niche IPs being released outside of Japan.

The thing is Nintendo need games as there are very few and this game is a perfect mature IP to bring over.

Fatal Frame 2 may have only been in Europe but it was released after all the Project Rainfall games in June 2012. It would have probably been a 2013 release like Pandora. I'm not sure NOA or Xseed would want to take a chance on the game at that time. Especially one that is a remake of an already released game.

Nintendo brought Spirit Camera to the West and it showed some cool 3DS AR features. I can see this game also being a way to show off the Gamepad.

Considering the US didn't get the Wii Fatal Frames, I would not count on it, unless Nintendo is really desperate.
Eh, who knows.

- Fatal Frame IV was buggy and the stories go that Tecmo Koei didn't want to pony up to have it fixed, and so weren't allowed to release it here. Fair enough, basically revealed to fail basic QA and they didn't want to fix it and got barred like any other game would've been.

- Fatal Frame II's remake hit when the Wii was in a wild downward spiral and we had to basically pull their teeth out to get Xenoblade at all, and Xseed had to pick up for Last Story and Pandora's Tower.

If this isn't too buggy and if NoA's desperate to keep hurling stuff to get people to want to buy into Wii U then it may be more viable this time. Nevermind there's that route of DD only that Tecmo Koei has not been shy about using.

E3 is usually for Western products. Not domestic niche stuff that may or may not get localized.

Mhm, I get that, just that if I were Nintendo, I'd try to give this game life by making it a part of my E3 lineup. A niche product is better than no product, considering that (as of now) we have no idea what Nintendo might show and it might help make their time on stage less anemic.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I'm in. It makes too much sense for the Gamepad.

Really, FF is exactly the sort of thing I want to see on the system.

If they do plan on localizing the title, we'll see it at E3 for sure. It seems the announcement was made because they plan on releasing FF in other forms of media. Makes sense to announce the game alongside the other media.

They could still put it in their presentation, you know. It's not like they're strangers to games making repeat appearances from E3 to E3.

Yeeeeees, best gaming-news in a while for me! This better not be another "Spirit Camera" bullshit spin-off; A real successor to FF4 in HD with good controls is all I want from my WiiU.
Pretty please Nintendo, I won't even complain if Zelda WiiU get's pushed to the next console
ok, that's a lie, but I'll complain a little less ;-)

Gotta admit though, their promotion for Spirit Camera wasn't half bad though. Even though the game was meh. Still have high hopes for this new FF.
