I wish this update would come out already. Not because I care about any of the reported features, but because I want them to move on to a version with features I do care about like saving movies and music to the hard drive. What's more annoying about Sony's approach is they don't beta test these updates like MS does so it's likely some people will have issues for one reason or another.

EDIT: took away gif because poster means public beta test

Will this update fix the sound cutting every few seconds while playing NBA 2K14 ?

Never played NBA 2k14 but are you sure that's not 2k14's problem?

Sorry am I wrong? Do they do public betas for these updates? I've never seen it.
MS didn't do public beta... it is closed... same for Sony... so you are wrong.

You can subscribe to be beta tester in both but that won't make you get in... needs some lucky.

5 weeks. It's been 5 weeks since this update has been announced. At the time, they said "due in the coming weeks". Ever since, they've been saying "[very] soon".

Do not announce a firmware update when it's not ready yet, Sony. And if you do, don't say that it is coming "soon" or "in the coming weeks".

I don't know what's going on over there, but it amazes me how slow software development is going. Sure, I know, you can bump into unexpected issues - and sure, you need to test firmware thoroughly before you spread it amongst millions of people. But: Progress. Is. Going. Too. Slow.

Same for me. It started immediately after the 1.60 update, 1.62 help it somewhat but stills happens. I think its how the PS4 handles through HDMI (I think is automatic, and cant be change manually) v.s how the did it on the PS3

I know they have internal testers but I wasn't aware they have people who aren't employed by them test these releases.

by the time they let regular people "beta test" it, it's more than likely pretty close to ready for public release, there won't be any showstopping bugs.

it's really just a way to earn some goodwill and let people feel elite with early software

I work as a software/hardware tester and you have no idea how difficult it is to create and run tests succesfuly. It's especially not fun when you have new features being introduced and I totally understand why they have to have some of these delays. Although they shouldn't have given a timeline, that was a mistake on their part.

did they ever say anything about patch size update being part of the firmware?

https://forums.station.sony.com/dcuo/index.php?threads/an-update-on-playstation-4-patching.189911/

iirc its what's preventing war thunder from being released in the us?

Sony should just stick to stability updates. This feature-adding nonsense takes too much time and leads to disappointed consumers.

Rome wasn't build in a day!

For all we know they may have hit a snag and it's taken longer to get to release than originally anticipated?

Beta testing to me is more like "try our buggy software before the release". It's only one form of testing which doesn't necessarily discredit other forms of testing.

I'm dying here. I agree though, they might as well just not say anything about these updates and roll them out secretly. Stability updates always arrive ON TIME.

You are very very new to Sony.

To be entirely honest, E3 is for games, but all they'd need to do is get on stage, say "DLNA" or "custom soundtracks in every game," drop the mic, and I'd be fine with it. The video edit software is nice, but if they aren't going to fix the record 15 minute stuff, then it's much less so. If anytime I use the share button is a crap shoot, the button loses it's value. That button is selling wolf tickets.

Sony decided to share the news of the update with everyone and now everyone is pissed because it's taking too long. If Sony would have kept the news under wraps people would be pissed that they are silent.

Would you have them release a broken-ass firmware that doesn't work properly or bricks systems? Relax. It will be out soon. Maybe play some games in the meantime?

Man I'm gonna be so pissed if there isn't mp3 and mp4 playback.

Is there even an integrated music player in the PS4? I haven't used the Music Unlimited service, but wouldn't they need a simple player ala PS3? Same goes for video. I'd actually want to copy music and video files to my PS4, not just simply have it read from a USB stick.

Traditionally, Sony has revealed the firmware details at most 2 days before release. And since most important ones occur during server maintenance, which was scheduled, it seemed to have perfect timing.

Instead we got blue balls.
