MLB The Show has been one Major letdown

I’m huge Baseball fan, and for years MLB The Show has been the best one on the market. I must admit for first time I’m disappointed in The Show. It just has been one major letdown after another.

1. I pre-order it on the PS4 and I couldn't download for 6 hours. I know that’s more on Sony’s side, but it just adds to my disappointment.
2. The loading times are ridiculously long.
3. I keep on running to a glitch where the whole stadium will turn black and sometimes blue. It happens at least ever 10-15 games when I play RTTS
4. My biggest disappointed has to be with the online. IT IS COMPLETET TRASH. It’s been like this for years, before maybe I didn’t care as much because PSN was free. I brought PS Plus for MLB and I can’t even play a game with out it lagging or freezing. NBA2k has better severs and that’s saying something. I like shit on EA, but one thing they get right in all their sport games is online structure. Its user friendly does not make it a chore to play with friends.

I’m tired of SCE San Diego Studio getting a pass for their shitty Online. 2K is also on that list

Still without luck
I've seen quite a few people mention this and it is pretty disappointing. It seems like they did their best to pretty up the game as much as they could, then shoved it out the door, bringing the problems from last gen along with it.

And yeah, no competition isn't especially great for the years to come.

I was going to grab this game until I read the impressions, pretty disappointing. From what I've seen and read, the visuals got a decent bump, but nothing mindblowing either. Maybe next year will be better.

I don't think it's a huge leap visually outside of the crowds. I miss MVP, I've never been a huge The Show fan despite giving a chance on one platform or another every year.

I feel bad for my brother who bought a PS4 for this game. He would have got a PS4 eventually anyway, but still.

I haven't had major problems with the game besides loading times. The lag I've experienced online is managable and hasn't caused any real problems for me. I love the game. Rtts is so fun.

Just bought my PS4 for this game. The game does have issues, but overall I am very happy with it. Probably because I dont get baseball games to play online.

It's probably really disappointing for anyone expecting a major overhaul. It is definitely an upressed version of the PS3 game, but that's more than good enough for me. The core game is still so good, and I don't think I've ever taken one of these games online.

The online has been for me. I was really worried about it but so far so good. Coming from a 2k background, its better, much much better. And the graphics are pretty damn good. A few things can be found if you want to nitpick, you can see last gen roots, but overall, I'm very impressed and happy with it.

RTTS is amazing.

Game seems just as good as all the previous iterations. I have had the stadium turn blue glitch once so far. Otherwise, same great gameplay.

Online has always sucked though.

The loading times seem to be a slight bit longer than the PS3 version but nothing too annoying. RTTS loading seems fine.

This was expected as ps3 version probably was lead platform. Next year is ps4 lead so higher chance to be wayy better.

Yeah the loading times are terribad but other than that I haven't had any issues.

Oh but whenever I turn on my PS4 it says that it failed to upload my MLB 14 save.

I still don't understand the online problems.

Its a fucking baseball game.

BASEBALL.

For fuck sakes.

BF4 can run with 64 people and be pretty damn good. Fucking SCE can't put together a competent online portion?

Is this really the best comparison? That game was fucked for like 4 months out of the gate, lol.

I love the game.

1. I pre-order it on the PS4 and I couldn't download for 6 hours. I know that’s more on Sony’s side, but it just adds to my disappointment. It was disappointing at the time but Sony compensated us $5 PSN credit and points for RTTS so I really can't complain.
2. The loading times are ridiculously long. The beginning load and the one before the first game can be quite long but it gets much better after that. Then there's no loading during the game so it's okay.
3. I keep on running to a glitch where the whole stadium will turn black and sometimes blue. It happens at least ever 10-15 games when I play RTTS Have played about 20 hours so far of franchise and RTTS and haven't gotten this once. I have the digital version as well.
Sorry to hear. The only time I've played against a human was with a friend beside me. Haven't tried online and probably never will.

Definitely got my money's worth. Yes, it's a graphical update for the most part, but I haven't touched a baseball game since I think '11 so everything feels quite fresh for me.

I dont understand, if the problem was already pre existing in previous versions on ps3 how is this game so popular among baseball fans. Its not as if the already popular game got downgraded right ?

Bought The Show 08 and 09 but haven't bought one since. This one was the most tempted I've been in a while but I figured their first go on a new system would be rough around the edges. Will probably get 15.

It's a good game but I can sympathize with those complaints. MLB 14 definitely gives a mediocre first impression. To that first load time, to the way you had to wait so long for that initial install - which for me was surprising on the PS4, to a lot of little annoyances in the graphics.

There are some weird visual hiccups that really stood out for me. At one point I thought it was raining in the game, but no - it was just some weird vertical texture tearing happening in the dugouts behind the players in the foreground. It's also a little frustrating that we've made no leaps in animation in that there are still those occasions where a player will just warp into another animation in a real jarring way. It takes you out of any illusion that you are watching a real game, and that presentation they've worked so hard over the years to achieve suffers for it.

Overall I just don't think this is a massive leap in visual fidelity. It looks good, but it basically just looks like a higher resolution PS3 game. It's still a great game, but hopefully next year's will be much better.

It's a shame, because when it comes to gameplay the game is really good.

But your right, online is stupid. I only play my friends and it's horrible 8 out of 10 times. It's such a long, stupid process to invite them. Then in-game I'll see my friend throwing to first, and on my screen there's no one at first base so the ball goes to the outfield. Meanwhile on his screen he had his 1B/pitcher covering first.

Or there's times I see the ball going past the SS thinking I have a single, the commentators even saying "the ball goes right by him" but me being out because his SS actually caught the ball.

My favorite has to be when throwing home, I see the ball going past the catcher, the commentators saying it was an error so I send my guy in from third only to hear my friend tell me im an idiot because his catcher has been at home the whole time with the ball.

What makes it even better is that sometimes these errors actually happen but I'm afraid to even do anything because you never actually know if it's real.

Oh, as for being worse than 2K servers? GTFO. While it may be a pretty mediocre experience sometimes online, at least I can actually play my friends. I bought 2K used to play with my friends. Sit through all the installations just to get "servers are not working at this time" for three days. 2K has the worst servers by far, it's not even close.

Offline I give it a 9/10. Online, 1/10.

Playing sports games online has always been trash. Laggy input, shitty competitors, connection drops.

I love this game, though. Love the cloud saves between my PS4 and Vita for RTTS.

I could play Conquest 64 players 1 week out of the gate?

My point still stands. You can play 64 players on the PS4 right now. And thats an FPS in a large map.

This is baseball.

I've been playing Show on the Vita and am having an absolute blast. Load times are great, and the game play is fantastic. Don't care about online, so I couldn't be happier with this years version

Pretty much everything the OP posted (save for glitches) were in the PS3 game for years. Especially the online. I don't understand why people thought this would be fixed....they couldn't do it for years developing for ONE system year on end. Why would they be able to do it for two systems?

This is baseball.

Battlefield also sells a shit ton so they get a bigger budget to make a broken game with.

Baseball is losing it's popularity and the games don't even sell that well compared to other sports games, so I would imagine it gets a pretty small budget.

Glad I decided to skip it this year. Huge fan, but I'll pick it up when it's a pure ps4 game. Not surprised the online sucks. It always has. Amazing the game isn't slammed year after year because of it. It is an essential part of sports games IMO. Inexcusable.

The Show has really stagnated in recent years. It's pretty disappointing.

Yes, the dirty little secret of The Show is they made a pretty awesome baseball game 4 or 5 years ago and have been churning out basically the same game with minor graphical updates and the same problems ever since.

Around 2010-2011, it was on my GOTY top 10, but now I am debating whether I will ever buy another version unless they make significant improvements. The last few iterations get way more praise than they deserve.

Some real competition would be nice.

This game is absolutely amazing... aside from the online.

The online ruins one of the biggest aspects I was excited about.. playing against my friends I no longer live near.

I posted about this in the main thread... but the online is completely inexcusable. From router to router my friend and I consistently ping from 15-30 MS yet we still get laggy pitching and hitting.... and we get major warping of the defenders. Multiple times we've advanced runners when we saw the ball go a direction it really didn't only to have it warp back into the hands of the defender for the play.

I love the game and couldn't be more pleased. I haven't come across the black screen glitch... Is that only occurring in RTTS for everyone? I know others have had that issue too. I also don't play online so although it is terrible it doesn't affect me.

Overall the game has it's flaws but it's still really good IMO.

The bad online doesn't really bother me. Sports in real life are meant to be played alone so it should be no different in a video game setting with instant access to every player around the world through the new cyber net.

The beginning load and the one before the first game can be quite long but it gets much better after that. Then there's no loading during the game so it's okay.

lol no. In reality, the patchy online is exposing the incredibly long load times for a lot of people. Those unfortunate enough to enjoy RttS get treated to their own special version of loading screen hell. It's unpleasant and I hope they patch it.

The integration with MLB within the game is amazing though, and you can kind of catch a glimpse into the future where we can watch highlights or maybe get some perks with an MLB.tv subscription etc. inside the game. I spent quite a bit of time scrolling through MLB players' rosters and checking out their linked Twitter accounts from inside the game. Pretty neat.

The load times are pretty annoying and the online is disappointing once again (but I expected it at this point) but the rest has been enjoyable enough for me. It's far from perfect, but I got what I want from it and expect a big bump next year.

They REALLY need to fix online though. The CM answered my question and said it's more about time than manpower to fix the online. They only have 9 months to work on each version apparently but you'd figure they would have had people working on a new infrastructure in time for the next-gen switch....

After I seen the same old recycled commentary, the same old animations, the same old... Yeah it just doesn't seem like they took their time. I'll wait until next year I think. The broken online, and they are asking for $70. They can take a hike.

I'm loving it, but it's also my first The Show game ever so hard to compare to others for me. That and I doubt I'll ever play it online so as a single player game I'm having a blast.

Don't get me wrong guys I'm enjoying the game and if someone said is it wroth 60$ I'll say yes. The shitty online is bullshit plan and simple. I'm not saying each game needs have no lag, but it's unplayable sometimes and in 2014 sport game that's inexcusable.

Horrid online play will keep me away from this franchise until it is fixed. I love the SP but I crave running an online league, and doing it currently or any online game is a joke.

New commentary is needed along with an vastly improved net code. I know many don't want to hear this but EA would do baseball online right. FIFA and madden, for example, are smooth as is NHL. I would love for them to get the license.
