Did somebody actually take that much time to compare a twitch stream capture to - ah, fuck it, nevermind. Let's just jump on the hate bandwagon since we all love eating crow so much.

that does look really good, and very realistic and atmospheric, but it all falls apart once the characters start to talk.

the movement of eyes and the mouths couldn't be more robotic.

I was more distracted by the voice acting. Needs that sense of urgency.

White Chapel might be well known for Jack the Ripper, but that whole area of London was a complete shit hole in that period. Presumably in their world things are even worse because of the monsters, and it's inspiring a revolution. Seems odd the idea we'd be playing people who are oppressing that.

Well, we did play as the ISA in the Killzone series ;)

Although I do hope that RAD goes into the actual ethical dilemmas of these social problems presented in the game, unlike GG.

Why the hell is everyone talking about Quantum Break in a The Order thread? Can we just keep console wars out of this?

Because everything is a constant comparison, obviously Insomniac either ripped off Sucker Punch or Infamous sucks ass compared to Sunset Overdrive, and so on.

It's sad to be honest.

Misterxmedia will be thrilled at the thought of a PS4 exclusive downgrade LOL

He will be even more thrilled when he sees the direct feed footage /s.

I think it looks incredible. And the gameplay is exactly what I want. Proven, well-polished gameplay elements that make a lot of fun, combined with a cinematic story and presentation, breathtaking graphics - day one. And tbh I couldn't care less about Quantum Break. I want to play games, not a weird TV-Show / video game experiment that only exists because Microsoft wants to push their TV stuff. I would be much more interested in the game if they remove this stuff.

I've been critical of the gameplay that was shown in the trailer, but going after the game for it's graphics is pretty mind-boggling. They changed the outfits and the lighting looks different, but both are almost certainly stylistic choices and the game looks incredible in motion, even on a crappy Twitch stream.

Well, they need to do a better job at showing off the game. They discussed tons of interesting concepts in previews but they suppress and ruin their own hype by releasing two videos that only show off the gunplay and pretty graphics. People are curious about the investigation aspects, the destructible environments, supernatural aspects, etc. so they need to show those at E3. They couldn't expect nothing but positive reactions when they hype up this last release and then only show 3 mins of gameplay. They're being weird with their marketing.

I'd have to agree with this. If they aren't ready to show, just dont do it till E3 and do it on a better scale rather than these videos where they show just thr gunfight.

All this secondary talk can only kill hype or bring negative press which isnt good.

It still is the game that I want the most for this year. Pull it through RaD.

Quantum Break is a game though.

Things I was hoping this game would have are melee and powers.

This game is an impressive showing for PBR in games. More so than even MGS5.

Yes, but I think I have read that it's connected to a real-life TV show which is on the disc and episodes are shown depending on your game decisions. I don't really want that.

I don't see how this "kills the hype". It is rather obvious that they will have a full presentation at E3. This is just a sneak peak which leads to their big E3 program. I don't see a problem with this.

Lol this is great, i guess they didn't see my previous comparisons.

Real bummer watching four grunts run onto the balcony "clown-car-style" repeatedly and stand in the exact same spot waiting to be slaughtered by pistol fire as mustachio superherio pulls the body across the street. They take bullets on the shoulders, legs, whatever, and the only reaction is to stand in place and keep failing to aim properly at the player until eventually shot dead and replaced.

It's a technical showcase, but that vertical slice did little to impress otherwise.

Game design is a tough balancing act. In reality the opponents would not likely jump out like that. Out of pure self-preservation they'd most likely remain behind cover of the walls of the building, peeking out from the window to fire a couple shots. These would be quick peeks as well. In reality, your allies would probably down a lot more of your enemies as well...it wouldn't be all on you, right? But this isn't reality though there is an effort to draw from it. The enemy has to expose himself, so the player can have something to do and have some sense of accomplishment. Otherwise, you'd have a game of nothing but suppressive fire as most wouldn't have the time or the skill to defeat most enemies, or put themselves in a situation where their ammo is gone from trying. The drag scene is short and represents an attempt at tension by hampering movement and aiming capability. You've disabled the player, but you need to strike a balance where they don't feel overwhelmed. One reason for channeling guys in one spot, is so you can have some degree of management. They're still shooting, and you still have to aim, but you're not scanning all over the screen looking for that lone gunman. In reality, you would have more sensory cues (wider field of vision. audio cues, smell, touch etc). In a game, your field of view is lessened, your auditory cues are limited, there is no touch, there is no smell. In a reality-based situation, the constable, Gallahad, and whoever was helping him, would have likely been gunned down. Its a game and player is involved; concessions are made.

I come in peace, and don't intend to insult your intelligence: written words can obfuscate tone. I also accept that you are entitled to your opinion and your feelings on the game; and am not trying to persuade you to 'like' it as I feel such attempts are futile...How do you convince someone to 'like' eggs if they don't. I often hear comments about AI or rather the lack thereof and I think sometimes people don't take the time to think out why it is, what it entails, before they place expectations on it.

I'm still surprised they never uploaded a better quality version. Driveclub puts out great quality videos to start the week and then The Order gets a crap quality Twitch stream loop.

am I the only who sees the facial models and skin shaders are a downgrade on the new images?

It looks like they removed the subsurface scattering, and the shadows and lighting are less soft and realistic. The hair also looks much worse.

You are judging this based on a shit twitch stream. At least wait for a higher quality video.

Yeah but you can skip those episodes. The TV show acts more like side-story. It has different characters.

Sure it's easy to shit on Quantum Break and Remedy but there is one thing people forget. If Remedy didn't make the first Max Payne, the landscape of third-person shooters might have been very different than it is now.

sony released this "shit twitch stream" why should anyone wait on judging what sony themselves released? I get it's bad quality, but the onus is on sony for it, and the negative reactions are completely valid.

And more likely it might not have.

Modern third person shooter design comes from basically two streams, WinBack was the first cover based third person shooter, then Kill.Switch introduced the blind fire and more natural cover based encounter design.

Splinter Cell was the origin of the over the shoulder tight aiming perspective, perfected and popularized with Resident Evil 4.

Gears took KS's cover, and RE4's aiming perspective and defined the modern TPS. I don't know which part you credit to Max Payne.

An additional note, Tomb Raider and TLoU both introduced dynamic soft cover, which is a really wonderful evolution of the genre, which I hope The Order includes.

How you could possibly tell that from that horrible stream is absolutely beyond me.

How about you wait and see something concrete before jumping to conclusions?

As for why you should wait for a high quality video to detect nuances of a game's graphics (nuances that would, inevitably, be completely obscured by such terrible quality as seen in the stream)... I dunno, common fucking sense, maybe?

  • It's action adventure, okay, so is Zelda, and The Last of Us, that really tells me nothing.
  • 'Time powers' tells me nothing. Max Payne has time powers, but so does Braid, it can mean anything.
  • What did they learn from those things? That tells me nothing.
  • I literally don't know what that means. Gameplay freezes? So the game just stops? That tells me nothing.
More importantly, what I want to know is if the TV bullshit is in the game, and if so how, otherwise I couldn't bring myself to possibly care, once I know I never need to see it, then I can start finding out if I care about the game or not. That to me is the most important thing about this game, because until I know that, the rest is irrelevant.

I understand what you're getting at. Sometimes devs do use ambiguous descriptions for their games, but if you've looked at the compilation of everything for Quantum Break (video in conjunction with this phrase in particular) you can easily derive at what he's referring to. When some particular time power is used, the game world literally freezes in real time and the player can traverse it while its in such a state. There still a question as to what extent the world can be frozen...is it fully controllable with fast/forward, rewind, pause etc...or it frozen at a fixed preset point.

But I get your point though and its valid in my opinion. There's so much ambiguity in the wording. Of course, Remedy like RAD are trying to 'tell' you about the game without really 'telling' you. They don't want to spoil the game. Delicate balance.

One of the interviews mentioned that
the desperate people turn to the hybrid creatures for help in the revolution, which is why the knights step in.

So you recognize it is bad quality footage, but throw common sense to the wind and
attempt to shit on the visuals anyways?

Either way, HQ footage coming this Tuesday, so you will get confirmation regarding
any negative change in visuals.

HAHAHHAHAA, your post-history.

You gotta be more subtle than that.

The game having a competent story? Not many shooters really did that back then.

The woman in this sounds like Ivy from Soul Caliber. I was half expecting a demonic laugh during the fire fight.

Oh, interesting. I wonder what is causing the revolution if it's not the monsters, they seemed like a reason things are worse than they really were, but evidently not.

Makes me wonder if people are aware of this black goo and are enraged by it being withheld.

Well I don't think I'd credit that to anything, maybe MGS, that was the first high profile 'cinematic' action game. But even then I don't think I would lay that on MGS, more video games moving to CDs so the capacity suddenly ballooned to the point you could include voice acting to go with your 'virtual actors'.

Anyone with any experience doing technical analysis would know that a poorly captured version of a poor stream uploaded to Youtube is completely useless for judging visual quality and tech, good or bad. I understand the reactions to the gameplay of it but you can't judge anything visually.

I wonder how long they can keep going.
It becomes more and more apparant that Ps4 is a good bit more powerful than XboxOne with every exclusives that gets shown off and with evey other 3rd party party release that runs and/or looks better on Ps4.
But especially the exclusives show a pretty significant gap if you ask me.

Yeah I remember Ru saying something about a bit class warfare brewing in the game. I think the Order serves at the request of higher ups or something...The people have come to view them as just an extension of the higher-ups power and priviledge. I think the team are reluctantly pulled into this revolution. Now this talk of the rebels enlisting the aid of the hybrids is news to me. I thought things were kinda set up in an triangle or sorts...maybe even a diamond...would you call a four-way conflict a diamond?...maybe a kite is more accurate lol

I'm trying to find the link. I can't remember exactly what it said.

Honest opinion, Quantum Break looks way more interesting than The Order 1886. The game is trying something new with the time mechanics and I hope it turns out well.

The Order 1886 on the other hand is trying to mimic Uncharted and The Last of Us (guys at RAD are a big fan of Naughty Dog), not that there is anything wrong with that...

Where can i find a video with a significant continuous game play segment?

I'm curious about this game now.

So long as Insiders/NDA/SDK/DirectX are in his vocabulary, he can keep up his ruse forever.

It helps that there are folks who desperately want what he says to be the truth XD

They haven't released tons of footage for it yet. They are very tight-lipped. Sam Lake (Creative Director at Remedy) was teasing a video. I'm thinking it will come next week.

I hope The Order becomes the 'benchmark' of cinematic gaming. Never I seen a video game rival CGI in terms of visuals. It would be great if this becomes this generation's 'Uncharted'.

Yeah, for all I know there are downgrades but I couldn't tell a thing from the streams I watched. Horrible, horrible quality. But graphics aren't even on my list of concerns really. Not for this title.

Just curious to see some real gameplay during e3.

Lighting changes = downgrade

They said the same things about I:SS.

Are you suggesting a downgrade? Hmm even if you want to do a comparison to prove your point use hq screens and not something from youtube. Better luck next time.
Wait what? I made the bottom 3 comparisons to show that the game looks much better. Top images are not mine lol.
