I don't get the "bad parenting" card when people discuss a mental illness. I know it's not uncommon to develop something like depression from family issues but stuff like bipolar or OCD (which I suffer from myself) are generally more gene-related, no? Speaking from personal experience, I had no problem at all until "something got activated" once I turned 18. Other people have been suffering from it since birth.

I know racism exist everywhere, thats not even an argument thats fact, and of course not everyone above a certain point of NY is racist. Thats also pretty well known. I deal with it enough around the NYC especially Long Island area enough as it is. Not to mention the institutional issues that as long and still effects those areas, especially when it comes to the vast amounts of income inequality just a neighborhood by. You'll see people really struggling one neighborhood, and people with too much money to count in the next block over. It's something else.
I give the guy who made the video immense props dealing with the situation better than most people i know.

The problem is, it's complicated. And people aren't interested in complicated. Many, if not all, mental illness have genetic factors. But we now know that external causes can alter our genetics. So, did we start with malfunctioning brains or did childhood trauma knock us off the rails? No one's really sure, but it's likely that it takes a little of both to embed yourself deep into mental illness.
And, while mental illnesses may have strong genetic indicators, how we express those mental illnesses often comes down to our upbringing or other external factors.
So, you have two bipolar I people, and they're going to eventually have a manic episode. That's likely controlled almost or entirely by genes. But what they do on their manic episode is likely controlled by their personal interior landscape. So one guy might reach the psychotic break moment and believe that he's the anti-christ and another might reach it and decide that all accountants are secretly aliens from Neptune.
More and more we're discovering that genes, environment, and even brain damage mix together to produce some potent cocktails of crazy.

Terrible scene. But I'm not comfortable with cyberheater's ban after looking over his posts in this thread. It seems to me that he wasn't an apologist for her behavior at any point, and was only cautioning that (1) people in anger will say anything to hurt another person that they are in a confrontation with, and (2) who knows what sort of screwed up circumstances she herself carries into this exchange. I think a little caution of that nature is okay, rather than simply chiming in with the somewhat disturbing enthusiasm here of taking some kind of pleasure in gawking at a person's worst moments put on tape.
The thing that bothers me is the high incidence of threads of this nature (G/A/F, etc) that seem to just take a little too much enjoyment in finding and mocking individuals who are clearly not very enlightened or who make fools of themselves, even though many of these individuals may have problems with poverty, backgrounds of abuse, or anything else we don't know about. To use such cases to learn or understand problems is one thing, but the threads inevitably feel self-congratulatory and arrogant, as everyone jumps in just to mock and feel superior to all those so hilariously backwards people from backwards parts our world.
