Some salt:

They ruined the cutscene of MC delivering the bomb at the end of Cairo Station. I didn't even notice any dialogue. And he doesn't even go inside the ship to detonate
:lol.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the d-bags that enjoyed griefing in Halo 2 by superjumping, bomb glitching etc. won't be bothered to make the new HD-Halo 2 their home again. Too many ADD-servicing games out there to play these days. Button glitching, sure, but what I forsee here are a few thousand folks each playing their favorite Halo online. I mean, there are many folks here (myself included) who are dying to go back for some HD Lockout goodness for example, but are any of us thinking "man I can't WAIT to superjump to the top of big tower with the sniper and screw people over"?

Maybe my faith is misplaced, maybe my theory that the Halo 2 dbags have all grown up and/or found greener pastures is faulty, but for whatever reason I am not overly concerned with this being a problem.

I am, however, concerned about being outvoted when trying to play H2 by people that want to play H4 or something, if it's just gametype-centric playlists that serve the whole collection.

Frankie/Someone at 343i... could someone comment on how the netcode will be handled for Halo: CE MP? It was synchronous MP when it came out, and that worked well for LAN but kind of falls apart online... Have you folks changed it to asynchronous?

It's either Halo PC's netcode or written from the ground up for this collection.

Dedicated servers are useless for synchronous (actually, technically they'd make it worse by adding another box to the chain), so it'd have to be asynch.

How is everyone already bitching? Can people get the salt out later and just appreciate the parts they like for a while?

Yeah it's async.

"What you can expect, however – and this is huge news for fellow old-school Xbox gamers – is that Combat Evolved’s multiplayer will be playable, online, in its original form. No more Halo: Reach map packs or excuses about CE multiplayer not “feeling” right online because it never had net code to begin with (let’s leave Gearbox’s Halo PC port out of this). This will be the OG Halo 1 three-shot death pistol, the OG “Blood Gulch,” etc. I politely brought up with 343 Franchise Director Frank O’Connor, and he didn’t shy away when presented with his own previous comments. “It was [a] peer-to-peer [networking setup],” he said of the previous games. “[Master Chief Collection’s] dedicated servers fix that,” leaving 343 comfortable with replicating the offline System Link experience in an online environment. This is what many players wanted in the 2011 Anniversary game, and we’re finally getting it."

Did 343 say that the achievements will be the same as in the games? Cause I haven't seen that. I assumed they'd be (mostly) new.

Probably so there isn't an overlap with the single games.

One disc, one UI, one set of achievements.

A good compromise would be to implement two versions of each glitched weapon: the original, with all of it's broken animations that allowed BXR, BXB, etc to happen, and you can do whatever in customs. Knock yourself out.

Then have a separate, fixed versions of weapons, these are the ones in matchmaking.

Superbouncing doesn't belong at any rate. And it was fixed in the Halo 2 PC version of the engine, so I am perplexed as to why it'd even be back.

Remade H2 faves, with proprietary graphics and a modified version of h2 gameplay. Lockout, Ascension, Zanzi...

OG maps and gameplay completely intact. It's extra content.

I'm wondering if the bolded means they did think about it and if there will be a radio-edit version if you will.

It doesn't matter where the guys are, the fact these things are possible is the issue.

H2 gameplay concepts, dual wielded, movement speed, maps etc., in custom xbone engine to give players a modern experience but in a nostalgic fashion. What you saw on ascension was that mode and its code.

Yeah I noticed the hitmarkers and other things. Liked what I saw though :D

It made me nostalgic. Although everyone I played with back then wanted all rockets all the time, so awesome just needed more cowbell.

Is it the Halo 5 engine and are you building off this custom experience?

I cannot wait to see the population distribution between games and what people think of Halo CE. Finally..

From IGN
This Collection packs a whopping 4,000 Achievement points, as they’ve been allotted 1,000 per game from Microsoft. Some of those will be exact replicas of their original Gamerscore-earners, but some will be new, too.

I make no guess about Halo 4 player count but i reckon Halo CE will be the least favored of the original trio. Probably will be way too hardcore for most people.
Also depends on the graphics. Apparently the MP partitions, aside from that special Halo 2 MP mode, won't get new graphics.

Huh, I just now got that Halo 4 will also be 60fps.

Huh.

:
Why is that a bad thing?

I'm kinda really excited for Halo 3 in 1080p and 60fps. Hopefully they can throw in a decent AA solution which would make it look amazing (admittedly it would still be a bit poly starved, but that isn't a huge deal)

Anyone read McCaffrey's idea about why the MC Collection exists?

Article

This dude lost a lot of credibility for me after his Halo 4 review, but I can't help but agree with his conclusion. The MC Collection is the world's biggest focus test, and we are the testers.

Oh, I didn't want imply that it was a bad thing. I actually will replay the campaign and Spartan Ops because of 60 fps (I know, I know).

But the Ark in 60fps. Give it to me naow.

Questions for Frank, Tashi and crew:
1. What patch version of Halo 2 will it be?
2. Will there be any VA changes for Halo 2?
3. Is the campaign gameplay of Halo 2 untouched?
4. Will the collection be the only way to watch the episodes of Nightfall?
5. When can we see an in game [non-theatre] screenshot / clip of Halo 3?
6. Any chance of a PC version?
7. Split screen and lan functionality?

Anyone read McCaffrey's idea about why the MC Collection exists?

Sounds like playing with fire, not that I have a better answer for what they should do.

Dealing with superjumping was not fun. Players outright ruined at least a hundread of the Halo 2 matches I played with that crap.
Super bouncing will be thwarted by invisible barriers, so I wouldn't worry to much.

The issue with Halo 2 is that they couldn't edit the maps at all to add barriers after the map shipped, so they were sort of stuck once glitches were discovered to get out of the map. With the new system I am sure when/if people work out ways to grief they will be able to fix it.

Was there any gametype other than Neutral bomb and maybe Oddball that was really broken by getting outside the map? In Slayer I don't remember super bouncing feeling quite as cheap, though I think it could get annoying with the held weapons never respawning.

Button glitches I'm ambivalent about as this point.

Anyway, looks like they'll by the Halo 2 Anniversary maps/gametypes to fall back on.

Questions for frankie/tashie/dave:

In regards to the 6 Halo 2 maps that were made using the modified halo 4 engine. Will these 6 maps also be playable in a playlist alongside the HD remakes of Halo 2?

I understand that the rest of the halo 2 maps were made as resolution bumps to 1080p/60fps, but I don't understand what kind of playlist to expect.

Will these six maps be spliced off into another playlist? Will this be more like the CEA playlist which was basically Halo:Reach settings with new speeds and such?

Will there be lobbies for every game? How differentiated will these be if that's the case?

It ruined Slayer matches. Especially on Ascension with one guy sniping everyone and telling his buddies where we were on the map at all times.

Superbouncing increased your velocity dramatically. They should just make it that if your spartan reaches that velocity you spontaneously combust into beautiful fireworks.

One other thing I need to know is when can I pre-order this digitally?
