Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 9: F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5

Not open for further replies.

It's true though

For fire starters
Blaziken>Typhlosion>Infernape>Charizard>Emboar>Delphox

Water
Greninja>Empoleon>Swampert>Blastoise>Samurott>Feraligatr (I really don't mean to insult your favorites, I would actually put last 3 equal)

Grass
Venusaur>Torterra>Sceptile>Chesnaught>Serperior>Meganium

I hope that Smash 5 wouldn't get A LOT of characters cuts. I hope that you would remember my condolences if there are some cuts.

Edited: Here is my condolences that your perfect record got soiled by Batty. ;P

You're next, don't you worry

What about Milky Way Wishes from Super Star Ultra as the 3DS Kirby stage?
One of the stages I cut in the 3DS roster when I pared it down to 32 from 36 was a second Kirby stage. I'm not really willing to drop any of the others.

Gaur Plains would look great in 3D, but why both versions?
Honestly I don't think Xenoblade is big enough to get a different stage on each version, but I felt it was necessary for it to have a stage of its own on the 3DS version.

Well of course he's not as recognizable as Mario, Pac-Man and Pikachu, but he's still freaking Little Mac. My friend who hasn't had a system since the Game Boy Color instantly recognized him. In fact, it was his wife who never played games at all who recognized him. Purely anecdotal, but I've seen this happen numerous times, before we even get into the appearances on primetime TV (Goldbergs), at major sporting events, in pop culture boutiques, etc.

But it sounds like a lot of the people you're basing this on have had some contact with him through you or others. The Goldbergs is an odd example because it's set in the 80s and loosely based on the Adam Goldberg's life, where he probably had contact with it. I've honestly never seen the series referenced (outside of its affiliation with Mike Tyson) anywhere else, so I'm actually really curious where you're seeing it pop up.

Compared to the likes of Ice Climbers and Ness (at the time he first appeared), he's pretty damn popular.

IIRC, SSB64 was originally Japan only and Mother 3 was in development within HAL at the time, which explains his inclusion over Mac, but I agree.

I'm not saying he's a bad choice or a totally unheard of character, at all. Just not a top-tier Nintendo mascot.

Fire:

Water:
Greninja> Swampert> Samurot> Blastoise> Feraligatr> Embolden

Grass:
Sceptile> Serperior> Chesnaught> Torterra> Venusaur> Meganium

Im not a big fan of obese or clunky final evolutions.

This is so painful to watch. Half the players have clearly never played a Smash Bros game before.

Then why is Charizard so high on your list?

He's the 2nd chunkiest fire starter of all.

Went through stages of grief a long time ago. Actually asked several times in last thread

So what is it going to be
Btw, this avatar is still mine while I undergo what Batty has in store

Well at first I was going to let you pass, but after hearing the news.. I couldn't let that pass. :3

I will let you know on what juicy avatar I have in store for you. C;

Nobody else burned out by E3 coverage?

Of course not.

I know I would lose someday but I'm pleased that I'm going to lose after you did. ;P

Not really. I would have imagined that those negative impressions is what caused few people burnt out.

You still made the bet earlier
It counts, I guess,
for something......

Of course not.

What news?
Oh, and screw Palutena, would've won otherwise

I see the Smash thread has finally gone to ranking lists for Pokémon. Only a matter of time before games/gens are being ranked.
I didn't play link as much as toon link in brawl... but could link's forward smash knock people backwards before?

There's nothing odd happening there.

Toon Link is the best Link, so we're not missing much with Link.

I wanted (and want) Simon, not Snake. Snake misses the point of Smash Bros. He was there as a promotion of current products, not as a celebration of legacy, as Mega Man, Sonic, and Pac-Man are.
You miss the point of Snake. He has waaay more of a legacy than Simon Belmont. Metal Gear is by far Konami's biggest franchise and some form of Snake is always the main protagonist. Simon Belmont has never consistently been the main character in Castlevania games. Even if Konami/Nintendo wanted a Castlevania character, it's not like Simon Belmont is the only choice the way that Snake is in his franchise. There have been maaaaany other Castlevania protagonists.

Sakurai has no Nintendo bias, Simon Belmont isn't deserving over Snake just because of his Nintendo affiliation, Snake is a bigger and more important character. Snake is essentially Konami's mascot in the same way Mega Man, Sonic, and Pac-Man are for their companies.

Speaking of Snake, is it safe to say he's been cut?

Seems like his moves are being divided up among the current cast. His FS has been re-tooled for Zero Suit Samus and didn't someone say Shiek gained one of his grenade attacks?

Well of course these non-gamers were exposed to it through others. That's how they were exposed to anything gaming-related.

Like I said, I've also seen it on apparel, I've heard the main theme play at sporting events, etc. And it pops up in conservation. In a Venn Diagram of "characters the mainstream doesn't know" and "characters they do," Little Mac might not be firmly in the latter, but he'd at least be in the overlapping circle. Which is more than many SSB characters can say.

Green Mamba,

That was pretty good selections for most of stages. Hopefully we would get more than 30 stages each.
Thanks. The stage roster is currently one of my biggest concerns. I really hope their decision to give each version its own stage roster doesn't gimp the overall stage count in either version, I want them to both feel like proper standalone Smash Bros. games, not incomplete halves to a whole that can never be actually finished.

I think if either version ends up having fewer stages than Brawl does I would consider the decision to separate the stage rosters to be a failure.

Unfortunately stage discussion never has any real hold here unless it's talking about banning them.

Sorry, i said it wrong. I meant i didn't play as link that much, I mained toon link. If that's normal, good to know.

Simon Belmont has never consistently been the main character in Castlevania games.
Actually, he's been the main protagonist of a sizable portion of them:

Castlevania (gonna roll the somewhat-different MSX game Vampire Killer in here)
Vampire Killer (arcade)
Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest
Super Castlevania IV
Akumajou Dracula (for the Sharp X86000; also, its remake, Castlevania Chronicles)
Castlevania Judgment (okay, so this one's stretching it, being a fighting game that I've never played)

I'm not sure you can say "Snake's consistently been the star of Metal Gear" in his favor, either. I mean, Brawl explicitly went with Solid Snake, and he's only been the star of:

Metal Gear
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (we don't talk about Snake's Revenge)
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear: Ghost Babel (kind of a gaiden game, though, and Konami's eager to sweep it under the rug for whatever reason)
Part of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (not even the bulk of it)
Metal Gear Ac!d
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

The rest have been Naked Snake/Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain), Raiden (most of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance), or a clone (Metal Gear Ac!d 2).

I suppose percentage-wise, Solid Snake comes out on top, but in sheer quantity, they're about comparable.

That would be harsh to considered that as failure but let look at the stages and see if they are good or not.

I can't help but pondering what would happens if we didn't get Smash 3DS. Would we have more characters? Would Smash Run exists on Wii U? What kind of contents we would get if they focused on single game? Would game got released to the audience early? Would we still get all of the 3DS stages for Wii U if we never had Smash 3DS.

Yeah, we will never know for sure.

Re: Little Mac's popularity: I think you guys are getting too caught up on names. Not necessarily everyone may remember Little Mac, per se, but with the moveset and character it's not that difficult to remember "oh hey, it's punch-out guy!" It's just like Doomguy or whoever the fuck the protag in Crysis is.
