Yu Suzuki's gamelab presentation has a slide with a '3' on it. You know what to do.

I honestly believe this game is going to happen in the next year or so. This many teases and close calls, along with Suzuki coming out of hibernation and making public appearances, can't be a coincidence. One of the first parties has bankrolled it.

I kept the faith for all these years!

They already teased us for quite some time now, just announce the game already >.<

When have they teased? As far as I can remember, the only talk about Shenmue 3 is basically them telling people to shut the hell up about Shenmue 3. That's not teasing, that's replying.

This isn't just some petty joke from Yu. I'm willing to bet Sony gave him an ear full for essentially revealing it ahead of time.

Looking at this rationally, Sega would not fund Shenmue III on their own. They've clearly shown they've no interest in games like this, and they can't even be bothered to publish Yakuza outside of Japan any more. So that begs the question who would be funding Shenmue III (again, assuming it exists)? It wouldn't be another big publisher because they don't work together that way, which only leaves Sony, Nintendo or MS.

Nintendo - I think they are most likely, considering their current good relationship with Sega. They've also shown increasing interest in funding external developments and working with third parties.

Sony - I honestly don't know. We've seen lots of images of Yoshida and Suzuki, but I don't know if they have any meaning. Sony bankrolling a third party IP doesn't seem very likely, but they are leaning heavily on nostalgia at the moment, and Shenmue does hold a lot of weight with a vocal minority online.

Microsoft - I don't know where they stand on matters like this. Spencer did comment not too long ago that Shenmue was their most requested game, and they're certainly more open to funding external IPs than Sony. Given their current push towards the 'games games games' angle, I think they're a little more likely than Sony to fund Shenmue III.

Please don't do this yourself. I fear for your sanity.
Just accept that Shenmue is dead, and if it's ever coming out it will be a nice surprise.
in all the 13+ years since shenmue II and an uncertain future for the series, suzuki has not once made a "joke" like this and has always treated the subject of shenmue III with complete seriousness. it's very out of character for him to troll shenmue fans.

i just think it's quite suspicious.

Er, what about the video he put out detailing Shenmue III's plot for mega64?

The guy has joked about Shenmue III before.

I can't believe Yu would actually joke about this. Is he seriously that damn oblivious? UGH!

I was so freaking excited for a good 3 minutes. Fu** you Yu. You don't joke about this stuff.

Shenmue III, Wii U exclusive.

No!

Shenmue III, exclusive to:

Nintendo's next home console, TriForce, a joint collaboration between Nintendo-SEGA-Namco Bandai to save the Japanese console industry and named after the GameCube-based Triforce arcade hardware that ran F-Zero AX!

I see it:

Shenmue Tri

Shenmue just doesn't make sense on the WiiU. Unless it was already a port.

And the Sony/Sega hints have been strong as hell lately, it's pretty obvious what's about to go down.

I don't think it doesn't make sense on Wii U, but you're correct, all the clues point to PS4.

Solid points.

But seeing Yu with Sony reps is becoming a trend. Sony's also been on this kick of winning over gamers. Give the people what they want...

Anyone of them could pick up the poison chalice.

Yep, it's pretty obvious that nothing will happens about Shenmue III. It's a dead dream, I mean come on, each year is Shenmue 3 year... since Shenmue 2 got released. It's not happening and it's not making sense business wise.

That comment makes me feel so old. Yu Suzuki is, in my eyes, the greatest game developer of all time. Bar none. The guy defined my youth.

Don't take it as an age thing. I was a NES kid, and even when I got a Dreamcast, I was too busy putting hours into PSO to even give Shenmu a second glance.

he was sega's miyamoto with a harder edge.

miyamoto created titles inspired by his childhood, his pets, his gardening hobby, etc, suzuki made games inspired by his love of cars, airplanes, motorbikes, martial arts, and so on.
