Yeah. It's like a different case of the Brawl Dojo days. Instead of knowing everything before release, we pretty much knew almost all the newcomers up until release.
Well he didn't mention Rosalina before she was announced, so maybe there's one more surprise in another newcomer?

There really isn't enough space on the character select screen on the 3DS, unless they change it up before release.
I'm in the same boat. Well, at least this means we can start campaining for DLC (that's apparently coming) soon right?
The popular counter argument is that the leaker didn't have the opportunity to mention Rosalina since they only knew of what was planned for E3 last year at the time and the second batch came after the Rosalina reveal making it redundant to mention her again.
I'm all but ready to hold out hope for the DLC characters now.

Yeah, it's sort of bittersweet. Nice to know ahead of time so I'm less disappointed by those I still want, but all hype for tomorrow is kind of gone. I'm sort of pining by hope and excitement on DLC characters at this point.
Brawl hacks show that the Character Selection Screen is built so that it is able to be easily, easily changed. I doubt they don't do that again this time around.

However, for the actual roster, having an extra page with like 3 characters on it would look weird. For DLC it's fine, but for the actual game, it'd look messy

I'd be a bit disappointed since it's the perfect way to add back whoever gets cut due to time contraints or whatever if they announced as such. But seeing how incredibly varied and interesting all newcomers look, I'd get over it pretty quickly.
Even that's not 100% happening either, but since Nintendo is slowly but surely getting with the times, it wouldn't surprise me that they did. Now I just wanna see the starting roster for the 3DS version.

It's a good thing IMO. I don't want any DLC characters for Smash. DLC character trophies (assist/non-assist), sure. But for new playable characters, just send them to the next iteration.

More than ever I want tomorrow's reveal to be ANYONE but Shulk. I love the idea of that guy being playable, but the sooner we can put Sal's "leaks" behind us the sooner the Smash community can become interesting again.

Nintendo should release updates like Street Fighter.
In 8 years? They may not be relevant anymore by then. See: Plusle & Minun.
Plus if it brings back characters people want that are fan faves (Mewtwo, Roy, Snake) or others that didn't have time to implement (Squirtle, Ivysaur, Lucas) then by all means do it.
I feel like this Smash had a very short timeframe for development so anything extra in DLC we can get, I'll be happy with. Plus I don't think anyone is going to pay extra money for trophies.

I'd be fine with no DLC characters. Heck I'd be happy with the roster right now if it was final.
DLC updates with a handful of characters, balance changes, & maybe stages for $15. I'm down.

Sakurai was going to reveal someone. This morning when he woke up, however, he heard of a certain leak. His first thought was to blame Afoni.

You bringing those two up reminded me how crazy it is that Dixie was planned for Brawl and we still don't have any clue on if we're getting a third DK character. Not fair I tells ya.
I'd be a little tiffed because I thought this would be the one way we'd get Ridley/Wonder Red/Any of the other 15 or so characters I still really want we haven't had confirmed, as well as how I'd get Lucas, Roy, Mewtwo, & Snake back. But eh. At least the game itself'll be great.
Besides, DLC was never officially revealed, so it's not like a promise would be broken or anything. Just that a dream would be dead, and that it'd be weird Nintendo wouldn't try to prolong SSB4's life while getting money in the process.

Yup. A bunch of new characters (min 4, max 8) every year or two. New stages, music and game modes too. Available both as a DLC release and physical release for $10 more (think NSLU).
Day 1 DLC or, like... 1 or 2 DLC characters at random intervals would suck.

That's my reaction too. Smash is one of those games were DLC is so wanted because it isn't creating new characters as adapting ones people love. I have my hopes that Dixie, Mewtwo and especially Ridley will come as DLC.

I'll love that but the biggest issue is unlike other fighters there isn't a dedicated Smash team. In fact the people making the game don't even work for Nintendo. I can't see long-term support happening with the team disbanding and Sakurai working on his next game (and him not wanting the game being messed with if he isn't in charge).
That honestly scares me. What if this "DLC" Sal is talking about is just made up of characters that didn't make the initial cut?

Hell yeah! Keeps the game fresh and updated instead of waiting console cycle for a whole new game. Then again Sakurai needs to rest his hand and whatnot unless he's gotten better from that.
I'd be neutral on it. It still doesn't sit right with me that we're getting three blue haired swordsmen and DK still has only two reps. I'm shocked we haven't seen Dixie yet.
