It wouldn't surprise me if some of the pro Melee players, having so much of their ego wrapped up in their success, would be quick to dismiss SSB4 if they're not immediately "the best" at it. Rather than learning a new game and its intricacies so they can consistently beat others, they may try to invalidate the game so that Melee is considered most legit.
They would be if they hadn't already put me on ignore for daring to criticize anything whilst in their precious hugbox.
No cynicism allowed in a family-friendly thread such as this!
I don't really think a semi-clone would have worked. She has tons of unique moves and abilities that really deserve a unique character.Dark Samus is Metroid's only real chance at a new comer and that's not possible this game.
It seems DS has a bunch of cool moves as an assist trophy too... I would have liked a semi-clone of Samus with some of the moves from her AT.
Why show up to tournaments for a game you don't like?I get the feeling there is going to be a shit storm next year when Smash 4 takes Melee's spot at Evo. I'm talking Smash Wars Episode V: Sakurai Strikes Back.
I hope everyone is mature enough to give Smash 4 at least a fucking year, even if it's worse than Brawl from a competitive stand point. Shitting on the game at launch and not showing up to tournaments/Evo, dooming the game from the start just because it's not as good as Melee would be a damn shame.

Does Nintendo start banning Melee from appearing at tournaments they've sponsored just so Smash 4 will get promoted?
Roy's sword does a lot of damage at the center. Only problem is Roy is a lot slower and has no real approach to allow his gimmick to work reliably.
The gimmick works for Marth because he can play fast and space well.
Why would you not want to see Kirby with her hair?Forget the hair, just give her the mask
Reducing Mario to "5 characters" seems silly because, series icons aside, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong are all essentially "Mario characters."

haha he would say that at first

I can understand that desire. He enjoys Melee and doesn't want to see it diminish like Marvel vs Capcom 2 did with MvC3's release.

You've said this a number of times and each time I hear the tinfoil crackling louder.
He was crying about Sentinel on day one so hard. Calling him super broken, ruining the game, etc. I think his Wolverine team was built around stopping Sentinel.
He discovered instant overheads, Wolvie/Akuma mixups, and the rest is history. Sentinel ended up being ASS.

What is Kirby not allowed to want to look questionably beautiful?
This was a comment made prior to playing the game or seeing how the movement mechanics worked. It says in the timestamp, five months ago. They've played it, hence the ill thoughts. I can assure you that if the game's controls and movement mechanics had more options then everyone would be on board.
No. Let's just fragment the community. Smash 4 will be new and popular and have a lot of players for that reason. Most of them have already "invalidated" the game and have issued an ultimatum - if the game isn't fixed, they're probably not going to play it.
As I've said before, Sakurai is going to make the game that he wants, and I truly doubt he's going to alter the game based on what the community wants. As a result, I don't see the game mechanics changing drastically before launch.
The momentum behind Melee is real. Smash 4 will be big early on, and it will likely be at EVO 2015 because it will be new and people will still be figuring out new things, but what happens after that? If the PM and Melee players fail to get on board, and the Melee scene continues to grow, what happens to Smash 4? Does it fall off into irrelevancy within the competitive scene just like Brawl? Does Nintendo start banning Melee from appearing at tournaments they've sponsored just so Smash 4 will get promoted?
If Smash 4 doesn't change, things could get messy.

I think it's an honest question, and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic plays out between Melee and Smash 4 in the competitive community, especially if Smash 4 hasn't changed significantly from the build that everyone played at E3.

I'm not saying that in a mean way. It's just natural with just about anything where a group of people are good at something. It's frustrating when an old approach doesn't work, and sometimes it's simpler to revert to what has already been mastered. I'm not saying this is the attitude all of them would take, or any individual in particular. I just suspect it will occur, in some capacity, with some of them.

Let close minded people stick with melee and they can watch the game die.
I was involved with the competitive Halo scene for a long time and it's exactly what happened to Halo.
Updated that wallpaper for those who used it. Decided to change it from grouping by series, to grouping them in a way that looks good without having to mirror any characters. If you want the hi-res, I'll pm a link.

You're the true hero here!
or maybe it's posts like these that make them put you on ignore
Do you need a cross to crawl up on or have you supplied your ownI'm glad to see I've changed your mind!
I don't care honestly, as long as I stay unbanned and allowed to say that I'm still worried about the game every now and then (until the time comes, if it ever does, when new footage/impressions make the game look better) amidst the constant inane hype then I'm fine.
Oh god, now I hope the game does suck, if it turned out all of my fears were addressed I'd have a bunch of people saying "TOLD YOU SO, YOU'RE SO DUMB FOR DOUBTING LORD SAKURAI" even though nothing in pre-release content suggests that changes like that would be made.
Yes, that was sarcasm before more of you add me to the hungrybox list
Vanilla Marvel vs Capcom 3 is hilariously unbalanced. If Ultimate never came out, it would have died in only a few years.MvC2 died because it was unbalanced. A better, more balanced game replaced it. That's the nature of the fighting game scene. If a more viable (aka fun, and fair) game surfaces within the same franchise, it takes the older ones place.
Fixed.

Ultimate's still ridiculously unbalanced, but nowhere near vanilla.
Honestly. News to me. What the hell was wrong with the E3 Build?
Please, enlighten.
Also, Based-EmCeeGramr, I thank you.
Thanks for all of your support gang. <3
I thought Roy's hit box was broken or something and it was closer to the hilt?

Looks great! I keep forgetting how awesome new Final Destination looks.Fixed.
I feel that regardless of how Smash 4 turns out, Melee will likely remain the tournament go-to title.
This is a thread of Lucina. Can certain individuals who routinely get into fights in here please stop airing grievances toward each other? THIS IS A THREAD OF PEACE.
It was a fucking demo.
