Pardon my ignorance, but wasn't there a Kickstarter for the game that raised almost a million bucks? Did the company still have to sell 250k copies to break even?

Bought the game last night, haven't had a chance to play it yet.
It fucked me over pretty bad. Been a long time since a game made me play it overnight. Twice. Luckily my boss is cool.If you have any kind of life to live over the weekend, I recommend playing something less black hole like.
Depends how much talking and exploring and loot luck you had IMO. If you are 6 and it's still easy you can bump it up. Fights are pretty good on difficulty IMO, but I reset and do preflight planning and buffs and if a person dies (Need DAT Exp)Bought it last week, just started my playthrough a couple hours ago.
Should I bump the difficulty up to hard? Normal seems fairly easy so far.
It's generally me. I think that D:OS was the first game I spent more than $15 for in at least a year. Got it for what it was during the Steam sale, $33 or whatever. Generally speaking, with the quality and quantity of both games and sales, there's hardly ever a reason, let alone time, to buy a game at full price. It isn't being cheap, just practical.
That being said, D:OS was the best gaming money I've spent in years. I was hesitant to pick it up during the summer sale just because of what else I could've gotten for that much money (I think I was eyeing Broforce, Volgarr, Mercenary Kings, and one other I can't remember for less combined than D:OS), but it was totally worth it.
Bought today. Playin in an hour.

I will buy this when they release a bundle with DLC...and that is 75% off.
It's a crying shame that the mainstream media hasn't picked up on this one.
Someone checked metacritic the other day and there were only a few official reviews.
I'm a little surprised that they've only broken even so far. Seems like it's been on top of Steam for a while since launch.
It's the best CRPG I've played in a very long time, so I hope it does better.
GAF, help me understand this post. Is it really as awful as it appears to be or am I missing something?

Breaking even after 2.5 weeks on a game with such production values sounds fantastic to me when you put it into perspective that a lot of AAA projects don't seem to achieve profitability after several months (or almost an year in the case of Tomb Raider). And this is a case of profitability when the momentum is actually starting. Like the guy said, the sales curve is still rising. I'm surprised it broke even in the first place TBH.I'm a little surprised that they've only broken even so far. Seems like it's been on top of Steam for a while since launch.

Is the cloud saving broken? I'm having to transfer my save back and forth between my desktop and laptop. In the properties, it used to show 0/100mb for cloud saves and now I don't see it.
90% off or no saleFor real. 85% is the new 75%. People who only get it at 75% are SUCKERS.
I don't want to sound too negative. The game has some great strengths as well, and I'm very glad it's commercially successful. Barring a significant upswing in quality (which is very possible), my prediction is that DOS isn't going to be the best RPG this year. It might not even be second or third best.
I'm about 6 hours in, and I'm finding DOS to be a very good game--not a great one. The character development systems feel poorly balanced, the conversation system is dumb, the simulation aspects are often inconsistent, the story is mediocre, and the wacky, "anything goes" writing style and setting aren't as interesting as I was hoping. I'm playing Icewind Dale concurrently, and despite that game's age, it's actually competing quite well for my time.

You listed the exact three I was thinking of. I'm not sure about Wasteland 2--impressions seem to be mostly positive, but not stellar--but I've been following Pillars of Eternity's development obsessively, and I'm confident it's going to be incredible. Now I'm curious, what releases could possibly cut it down? I don't know much about Pillars of Eternity or Wasteland 2, so I'll believe those possibilities, but I can't think of anything else. Looking at Durante's list, I can only presume you mean Dragon Age: Inquisition as the third (or maybe Age of Decadence).
If you expect anything more than mediocrity from DAI, I humbly ask you to seek help immediately. If it's Age of Decadence, I'll accept the possibility.
But in all cases, I doubt any of them can match the sheer imagination Divinity: Original Sin has unleashed in regards to its gameplay and design. It's a really refreshing game to play, and I (unfortunately) doubt that anyone else will match its ingenuity for some time.
