PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

AAaaannnnnd they just DDoS the shit out of WoW. Looks like all many servers are down. I can't believe a few pieces of shit have this much power.

Is PSN being targeted again? I'm trying to download BlazBlue onto my Vita and the estimated time is 1000+ minutes for a 3.3GB file. I'm sure it isn't my connection since I have a 50down/25up.

Sony needs to stem this as soon as possible. We as gamers know this isn't a hack, but to Johnny Stacks and the general public, anytime someone does something to an online network is considered a "hack". This in turn is going to spread like wildfire and only strengthen the "PS4 is selling better, but Xbox One doesn't get hacked!" narrative. Consumers afraid that the PS4 version of Destiny will be down on day one will have no choice, but to buy Xbox Ones and play Destiny on the better system. This in turn will cause PS4 sales to plummit as Xbox One will take Sept-December. Then Xbox will take its place back at the #1 spot while Nintendo and Sony try to play catchup with Poketekken and The Order: 1886 Setpieces. You could have prevented it Sony after 2012, but as the saying goes, "Fools who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Looks like the Lizard Squad account has been suspended on Twitter.

Hopefully they were caught and this adolescent war upon gamers is finally over.

edit: I'm shaking my fist at you, Asgaro :p

So this is essentially just how the Internet is going to be for a while isn't it? Just a bunch of attention deprived people attacking services with DDoS tools while others attack those people in some sort of a big e-dick waving contest.

War has changed. Read in monokumas voice for extra despair.

Either that or Twitter doesn't consider bomb threats a ban worthy incident. To be honest I'd consider both a possible option considering the state of Twitter.

So question, if someone says that DDOS is the same as hacking, is that true?

Is DDOS a security breach?

Explain to me like i'm five. D:

A DDOS is like thousands or even millions of people all logging in at once and overloading the servers, like GAF at E3. It's a traffic constraint based issue. Zero relation to hacking or a breach of security.

Explained more like you was 15 but hey, I'm sure you'll get it from that.

No. DDOS is not a security breach. Think of it this way. Lizard Squad(If they are indeed the ones responsible), are a group of necromancers. They go to a graveyard(the internet) find a bunch of dead bodies(People's computers that are left wide open securitywise), and they raise them from the dead as zombies. These Zombies look like perfectly healthy human beings, however the way they act is a bit... Odd.

Now, with this zombie army, they go into Twitch's theme park. Twitch has 3 ticket lines(equivalent of servers) for customers to go through, which is normally more than enough and it would be unprofitable for them to have more than they need. On this particular day, the Zombies mix in with the customers. They don't plan on buying tickets, instead they just get in line and say "Hi" over and over again to the cashier. Of course, eventually the cashier will realize there's something wrong with that particular customer and kick them along, however there's such a ridiculous number of zombies that the customers that are there legitimately have a lot of trouble getting into the theme park.

You know when that new game that is online only releases at midnight or whatever and everyone slams the fucking servers all at once and almost no one can get in without errors? That is what is basically happening nonstop to these services.

This analogy isn't in terms of the methods (which others have described) but in terms of the effect:

It is like parking a car across someone's driveway, as opposed to breaking into their house.

all this shit is so fake.....do these guys even try anymore? Responders on twitch are finding the photos and where they came from in a matter of minutes.....

No Hacker ever requests retweets, followers, and people to reply so many times to do what they want. If UGLegion actually Dox'ed Lizard Group the dude would be instantly hired AND make over 6 figures starting salary. You know how easy they could get a job figuring out something faster than the FBI could?
