Five #DRIVECLUB beta videos + impressions

Watched some of the videos.

I think the sound is a lot more exciting than the graphics (graphics will always keep improving, but no matter how many years pass no racing game ever seems to have good sound)
The part where he kind of idles the throttle and cruises in the first video sounds so convincing that it makes that entire part of the video believable and immersive, much more so than the graphics.

Hard to judge the graphics from these, the image quality of the videos is very low, the lighting looks pleasing as in the gamersyde videos though.

I'm impressed with how the car physics look, the car properly slides into a downhill corner when he locks the wheels and turns in at low speed, you can see the steering snap when the weight shift ends at other parts of the video.
Things you see in a racing sim not in an arcade racer.
I mean it looks as if the game respects how momentum and weight works.

More developers should delay their game if it isn't turning out well enough/ready enough , it seems to have worked for this one.

Lighting is ridiculous. The way they got the grimey looking "it's about to rain, but the clouds are still in the distance" lighting is second only to the twilight blue lighting so far. It's so realistic.

And to think about all of this with the weather patch = :O

This game truly will soon be the best looking racer on the market. Maybe the best looking game, period.

Ok, NOW I feel like we're into the next generation of consoles. Everything up to now has been a prelude. Next gen don't start until Driveclub says so.

Considering Sony PR probably won't release nothing but more 5 second facebook clips until release, I'm glad these beta vids got leaked. It's basically free PR for this game anyway being only a month away and we still barely had any decent footage, and the impressions pretty much cover the concerns the game had. No A.I. rubberbanding, and pretty good AA compared to previous hands-on.

I know anything on small size gif will look better, but this is too much!
Downloading the video for maximum impact

these videos look pretty good. never mind the gifs here. go download wario's file.

some things:

game looks good. I think the beta is more advanced than all that was playable in various expos.
at least this is what I'm getting from seeing videos of everything, no hands on at all for me yet.

now, graphics are good, some of you say blabla remove wire blabla shadows blabla jaggie blabla bla :)
graphics are good guys. and more importantly i didnt notice any bad habits of framerate, solidity etc. so thats very good.

all that remains for me is to find out how good handling is, and how the game mechanic will handle the abuse of the system (narrow roads with guardrails etc, the collisions between cars and sidetrack etc)

bravo wario for the vids, better job than sony or evo ever did for showing the game.

The Stormy vid at the 1:29sec mark the drivers side window crackles, but what I didn't expect was the lower left of the front windshield to sustain some minor damage, only a small portion at the bottom, great attention to detail.

Unless the physics have changed dramatically since I played it, it does not lean towards realism. Its firmly in the PGR camp of driving models. Not super arcade, but nowhere near a sim, either.
That confirms to me that this is the new PGR. Just in a different setting.

Any to think these vids aren't even at the full 1080p the game outputs.

Love this one. Beautiful mountainous vistas!

Love 2:46 onwards and 2:23 onwards of the MUNNAR - Race start 7am video as well. Breathtaking views.

I wish the track was longer so we could drive all the way to them.

I'm not even into racers much...I think I'll have to have this. That sense of speed is great. Watched some of the YouTube clips and even that is good enough to get me hyped. Goddamn.

I really like how much control you seem to have during drifting. Cars don't just become a slippery mess. Lately I've been playing Grid 2, which has a bunch of point-to-point races too. It's interesting how much more enjoyable the tracks seem to be in this game, driving is almost relaxing. Grid 2's p2p races are stressful and often frustrating with the way the tracks are laid out. That game also made me realize that Evolution made a good decision in not making them too long here, and of course the game letting you know the difficulty of each curve beforehand with the color-coded banners is greatly appreciated. :p

Thanks for the videos. Game is looking good, but the Maserati does not sound like a Maserati and that makes me sad. Looking forward to playing it!

I still can't believe people said this game didn't look all that great when they played.
Even if it looked inconsistent, what racing game looks better?

Anyone notice in the race with the black Maserati (5:01 - 5:03) the view inside the cabin, the driver's legs can clearly be seen tapping the gas pedal as his knee moves up and down.

What great attention to detail. Its these little things that make games extra special.

no racing game looks better than this. notice how when actual, true footage of the game is shown, the naysayers are nowhere to be seen. their agenda was quite clear.

like i said before, i suspect i'll just get absorbed in photo mode and never play the actual game at all when this releases

Has there been any discussion as to the soundtrack?

Plenty. Bespoke featuring Hybrid and other electronic outfits. Also, from what I gather, the music is turned OFF as a default, meaning the TRUE soundtrack are the cars themselves and the surrounding environments.

I've got a solution; competitive photo mode. A group of six take photos of the previous race, which are then all displayed. Vote for 1st 2nd and 3rd best pic. That way you are taking photos but still playing!
