Super Smash Bros. for 3DS |OT| It's out in Japan

I'd like to talk Smash Basics for a bit with any players here.

  • Is L cancelling in? If not how fast do the jump recovery feel compared to Brawl?
  • Short hop into Fast Fall...this is basic freakin training wheels stuff here. Please tell me its not changed. There was a short rumor that fast fall would be eliminated from hops and would only work on jumps above a certain Y coordinate. Please tell me I can still short hop fast fall.
  • Shine to Shield...still there?
  • How does the DI feel? Stronger? Weaker?
  • I hear you can dash dance but its not like in the past. Could someone explain the difference and how it effects using dash dance?
  • Jump canceling out of the cooldown on a move...is it universal or only something certain folks can do on stuff? If only a few what are some that can do this?
  • How soon can you make an action after a throw? Being able to jump right into a followup is BIG and I'd like to know if all these odd speed buffs apply to a universal sort of "low cooldown" for throws. Can folks take immediate action off of throws or only some folks?
  • Air dodge...its looking better on stream. Could someone rundown how it feels in Smash 4 compared to say Brawl and Project M?
  • New Dodge roll seems fast...How is this affecting the footsies so far? Is it more in your face or just harder to catch folks? Is it encouraging a bigger throw game?
  • Shield canceling...can you do it? There was also a rumor you could shield while running. A breakdown of shield options and cancels (if any) is needed here.

Answering these one by one:

-No. It wasn't in Brawl, either.
-I don't think that's been taken out...
-No. It wasn't in Brawl, either.
-There is no SDI, but DI works the same as it always does. Apparently if you DI down you reduce your knockback, though...
-You can dash dance, but it's extremely difficult to do (especially on a 3DS).
-Never heard of this. Can you explain?
-It depends on the throw and character. I've seen Sheik do d-throws into u-airs, which seems like a true combo.
-Air dodging is like Brawl, but it has a TON of cooldown frames if you land during one.
-Rolling seems better all around, and it does seem to make throws more prevalent. That said, it makes the game more offensive in a way since offensive rolling is so good now. Of course, it's still character-dependent.
-Shield canceling? You mean canceling your run into a shield? Yes, you can do that.

  • No lag canceling. Most aerials have little endlag if any.
  • You can fast fall short hops.
  • I don't know what you mean, but shine is awful so it probably doesn't matter. Shine does like no knockback at all.
  • Dash dancing is identical to Brawl dash dance, it's just harder on circle pad.
  • No jump canceling that I know of.
  • You can combo out of some throws.
  • Air dodge is realy good. There's like no startup and you can do multiple airdodges before touching the ground. Makes comboing much harder. You can't airdodge out of hitstun like in Brawl.
  • Rolling is fast but I can still tech chase.
  • Shields come out quickly and you can shield out of a run.
1. Sad there is no L Canceling but the little if any endlag is sweet. I can use that.
2. Shine does...no knockback? Oh lordy things will be interesting. In Melee it had set knockback, in Brawl Variable knockback and in Smash 4...none? Ouch.
3.Now THIS is a complete meta changer. No air dodge out of hitsun, but multiple air dodging? Changes the complete air game. I can see a lot of weird recovery struggles using this.
4.I can use shield to cancel my run? Is it possible to use shielding to wave dash? If so thats like MK block dashing or something...

I stopped playing Vanilla Brawl in like 2009 so I'm unfamiliar with the more recent ATs.

EDIT: Corneria easter egg taunt still works with Fox/Falco if anyone was wondering (pressing down on D-Pad on one frame)

Any idea about any replacement for Snake's? Like some people were wondering if Doc Louis was going to get his kind of stuff, or Kid Icarus.

I have a really weird feeling about the Chorus Kids. Either they were cut late into development or they're planned as DLC.

First, there was the Gematsu leak. Yes, the information is clearly outdated, but the Chorus Kids stick out from the rest of the pack since they represent a new IP. "Pokémon from X/Y" is pretty vague, and Robin and Lucina made it in over Chrom, but there's nothing ambiguous about "Chorus Men." There's no mistaking them for another character.

Then, at E3, we saw the Sneaky Spirit as a Smash Run enemy. Out of the dozens of non-playable IPs to give an enemy, Sakurai includes someone from the same series as the Chorus Kids, mentioned only two months prior by Gematsu.

That brings us to now -- the Chorus Kids trophy. It's a really odd trophy. Character trophies typically just give biographical details, but the Chorus Kids trophy talks about a bunch of GBA Rhythm Tengoku minigames/characters. Only the last sentence mentions the Chorus Kids.

You can switch the buttons around and turn off the stick up jumping. That's it.

For those who have the full game or know more about it than I do, I have a question about control customization. Can I make it so that sliding up on the circlepad won't make me jump, but can still be used for up-normal/special attacks? I ask this because there are certain attacks, such as Megaman's "shoryuken" that I find hard to pull off because of the attack/jump timing.

I would like to let you know that I saw Sneaky Spirit in final version on someone's stream, but I'm not sure about Polar Bear.

Yes, it's the button on the bottom-left corner of the custom controls screen.

Yes, you can turn off tap jump.

I probably shouldn't have any problems in Smash 4 with C-sticking because I don't think I've ever used the C-stick in Smash all these years.

The Polar Bear is still in.

It is odd, though. I don't think any other enemies in Smash Run come from a franchise that lacks a character or stage. The Polar Bear and Sneaky Spirit stand alone.

I forgot to ask, does the Ice Climbers trophy have the "Other" category like the polar bear?

I'm not sure so you have to ask Drago about that since he's only one that I know that have Ice Climbers trophy.

The Polar Bear is still in.

Yeah, that's why I found it odd. I wonder they got cut at last minutes due to several reasons that we only can speculated such as 3DS technical issues, etc.

I asked earlier but.. Anyone have any smash run impressions, or can link me to some?
You run around beating up enemies to boost your stats. This is so you're strong enough to compete in a final FFA battle...except everyone dies in one hit no matter what so it doesn't even matter what you do in the running section.

I don't like it.

So Sakurai kinda left a backdoor open for the Chorus Kids to be DLC?

Someone else in this thread mentioned before they could also pocket Master Hand's lasers.

Villager is a dominant force who will walk on the beaten and bloodied. He will continue his reign with his deep pockets.

Cross posting what I posted on another forum:
I only had to unlock a few of Fox's customs to basically rebuild Wolf. While it won't get you back Wolf's kick ass normal attacks, you can use equipment to offset some of Fox's speed for power, and then, most importantly, swap out his specials.
Here's an overview of Fox's Custom Moves in Smash 4:
yqsdGpY.jpg

Custom B 2: A quick lazer that does more damage than it should and does have hitstun. Could end up being really good with equipment.
nTcZmvN.jpg

Custom B 3: A charge lazer. Charge can not be held, must be released. More powerful, but not that powerful, but still a good option.
Custom Side B 2: I have yet to unlock this one.
UKSGQrT.jpg

Custom Side B 3: Wolf's Side B, essentially. Travels at an angle, damages on start up and damages at the apex of it. Works really, really similar to Wolf's Side B.
lSRkLaX.jpg

Custom Up B 2: Like his normal Up B, except without fire, it doesn't damage and travels a little further. Seemed kinda useless, honestly. Fox has no trouble recovering in this game. It might have some sort of purpose I can't figure out, but I played with it for a while without finding any reason to use it over the normal one.
CWNhkCs.jpg

Custom Up B 3: GIGGGGAAAAA DRILLL. Fox gets surrounded by some weird ass wind drill thing, making it a multihit move with surprisingly decent kill power. Works somewhat similarly to Wolf's Up B.
Custom Down B 2: A bigger reflector that kinda sucks people in and doesn't do shine damage? I'm not sure. I couldn't figure out what the hell this thing's purpose was. Forgot to take a picture, my bad.
QEUnD3q.jpg

Custom Down B 3: Reflected projectiles travel back faster, but, like the other custom, doesn't do shine damage. Really, why would you use it if doesn't do shine damage?

So, if you want to essentially make Wolf Lite, throw on equipment to boost Fox's power at the offset of some of his speed and go with Custom B 2 or B 3, Custom Side B 3, and Custom Up B 3. Having a lot of fun with this, and I think it'll help people be okay with Wolf not being in this Smash.

Hey, gamehavers, quick question:

Have you seen the Polar Bear or Sneaky Spirit while playing Smash Run?

I haven't seen either of them on any Smash Run streams I've caught, but there's so many potential enemies the game can use that I don't think that's proof of anything. Have any of you seen them? Have any of you played like a hundred Smash Run matches and not seen either of them?

That's my feeling as well. There's been too much smoke for there not have been a fire at some point. The trophy cinched it for me.

I don't know about anyone else, but Mega Man is REALLY clicking with me. I'm tearing through the lvl. 9 characters in the demo. I cannot wait to try him against some other characters.
