Super Smash Bros. for Wii U POTD Thread 17: Smash 3DS Discussion @ OT PLS

I love it that we're back to POTD hype. It's been a long weekend waiting to see what Sakurai has planned. I still say it'll be something about the 3DS & Wii U connectivity. Basically more menus but at least some clarification.

Also, put me down for both. I bought my Wii U earlier this year for the games already available and for Smash. After playing the demo on 3DS and seeing all of the features exclusive to it, I want that version as well and I figure they'll be varying enough to warrant my money.

Lolwut? I just saw this, apparently Fox can barrel roll with custom moves?

DHD vs Shiek was hype, I think once people explore the game on wii u its going to be a awesome game. I don't think anybody should be taking the 3ds version serious to determine smash 4's competitive viability. As exfatal said Melee is getting old and for me at least tiring to look (not saying its a bad game, its a great game but its time for it to pack it up). Also as long as Nintendo is involved with evo I don't think were gunna see melee as the main stage smash game, it will probably be a side event.

I love how fun DHD looks. Lots of stuff to just keep tossing at enemies.

Yeah, I agree with the reasoning, but we've definitely left the old POTD days behind us. At least we won't be getting the thread locked anymore.

You just wait until he reveals Ridley as a playable character exclusively to the Wii U and can be unlocked by connecting the Wii U to the 3DS versions of the game. This goes against his design philosophy but darn it I'm going to stick with it.

Tonight however, we're gonna get a boring 3DS pic. I feel it. :(

At this rate, I'm just happy if we get a pic at all.

Maturity, bitches.
Making Ridley playable really does go against Sakurai's design philosophies and everything he stands for so you're better off giving up now.

Maybe the pic is late because they're having a big update for official site, adding all the characters into it, or just all the 3DS mode explanations.

I can't fathom how people are so bothered by Project M. It exists because people felt that Sakurai went out of his way to say "this isn't your game." If Sakurai's vision centers around intentionally excluding a group, why should the group value his artistic vision? I mean, at what point does it stop being okay to do things? Do you hate speed runners because they exploit the game to beat it in the fastest time possible? Do you think Doom modders are reprehensible people?

I don't have an issue with creating the project per se, nor am I begrudged to the fact it became a tournament viable entry (Although I am wary of it on that front.) What I take offense to is how much they butchered from Brawl in order to make Melee 2.0 work to their terms. As for why they should honor his vision, maybe because they still have a game that's already out that has an established tournament criteria. As for the rest of your questions; Speed Runners are a grey ground for me, but I dislike glitch-assisted speed runs. Modding is okay so long as you're prepared for the time when your mod is no longer viable, either a; when the game is replaced, or b; when policy changes.

Sakurai seems like the sort of person who would want a purple parent-eating space pterodactyl in their game.

The only people who think that Melee wasn't balanced in terms of fun between competitive play and casual play invented it as a defense for Brawl. Basically, "Brawl isn't for you, huh? Well then Melee isn't for me! It's too fast!" The problem is that Brawl simply wasn't made for competitive players, but they wanted to play with the content added to Brawl in a game that they could have fun with. They didn't "butcher" Brawl any more than modders "butchered" Half-Life to be a deathmatch shooter in the form of Team Fortress.

Sakurai went up to Sakamoto to ask if he could use Ridley.

Sakamoto asked, "Who?"

Sakamoto then went on to ask if it was possible to add even more Samus.

You forgot that it's also against his religion.

Sakamoto is chained up to a pipe in Nintendo's basement after Other M. He's only fed when he comes up with new Tamodachi, WarioWare, and Rhythm Heaven ideas.
