Some questions for people who own the game:

Can you chose modified Palutena and Miis even when the custom fights off?

Is there a way to chose your customs moves freely or you must assign a space for each custom combination you want.

Do the miis have custom slots for each type of fighter or it is shared?

Thanks.

I have to be completely honest, evidence of other modes being left over in text is nothing new. Brawl had evidence of a horde-like mode (Brawl Slipspace) and wifi boss battles left over. Let's hope this does mean something, though.

I don't have the game, but I would presume that you can't.

Is there a way to chose your customs moves freely or you must assign a space for each custom combination you want.

There are customization slots for each combination you make for your character, you can save them there and name them.

Do the miis have custom slots for each type of fighter or it is shared?

Thanks.

If you mean on the CSS the 3 Mii Fighters share a roster slot, if you mean related to the above question, I would presume it'd work just like with the other fighters.

Another question about customs equipment:
If you play online with friends and have customs equipment enabled. Do you actually see the stats (Attack, Defence, Speed, Speicals) of the custom character?

Kind of. There is a little pie chart by their name that displays buffed stats. It doesn't show how much it was buffed by and what stats are lowered though.

No.

For some reason, despite assets existing in the game allowing them to do so on hte character portrait, they don't show what the equipment stats they currently have are at all, so you might not even know someone is using custom equipment instead of just custom moves until you notice something not ordinary.

On the local CSS, at least, there's a big icon next to my portrait w/ a Fist/Shoe/Shield to denote what my highest stat-up is. This icon doesn't appear online? I assume it will still show on Wii U, so it'll be very obvious when playing locally on Wii U.

I wish the game didn't make you do certain actions even if you weren't doing the correct input for it.

Like, I'd prefer it if pressing A, A, Down A on Falco for example, actually did a two jab into down tilt combo rather than taking a Down A input as a third A, what's all that about?

Is there any kind of crouch cancelling or something I'm missing to not have to do the stupid spin attack, but still do the DTilt quick enough for them not to get out of hitstun?

I tried doing A, A, Shield, Down A, but it still does the damn spin, maybe my timing is just wrong or something.

I'd enjoy the apparently more ground focused game if the ground game was actually enjoyable and not just tilt strings or jab 'combos'

That only appears in the CSS for your character and CPUs on your system, anything else it shows nothing, definitely doesn't appear online..

Well, playing locally on Wii U, there's no way they won't know you're choosing an STR modified build. That said, that's a shame. Equipment is too broken for my tastes.

I'm actually really glad that the equipment turned out to be as unsuitable for tournament play as it did honestly.

Custom moves are a hassle to unlock as it is, and I atleast know how many there are, randomised stat equipment that can essentially be unlimited and is unique to every character rather than shared? no thanks.

I'd also hate to have to face a player with a load of knockback resistance and the equipment that gives every attack a random chance of healing them by 1% if it connects, that just doesn't sound fun to play against or to watch.

Special ability of some equipments.

Ah, that explains that. Once again proving why I don't like custom equipment.

I haven't really tried them because I can't read what the special bonuses are. Special equipment will be smash run/classic mode gear for me. Might also be used for handicaps for lesser players.

OH.. That said... does the game not have a handicap mode anymore? I haven't played a lot of 'with friends' or 'nearby' multiplayer.

Yeah. Custom moves, more or less, seem pretty balanced (at least superficially), and might make OK characters become great ones. Equipment is beyond broken.

Do we know if there's a SET list of all equipment, or are they randomly generated? I've found equip that is inherently better than others (same '+' stat, different '-' stats, like 2 having 25 attack, but one having -10 def and one having -20 def)

There seems to be a thing that lets you choose how many points/stock you lose when you get KO'd, but you can only set it to -1 or -2

I'm really looking forward to playing with the custom moves. Between videos and text writeups I have some ideas already.

Zero Suit Samus

I'm thinking I'd use the first custom on the neutral and side specials. The "Falco Blaster" would be good for ZSS at range since it is faster and longer range than the paralyzer (maybe faster than Falco's), and that P:M-like side special is great for combos. I'd probably go with the P:M dive down special if her dair is different, otherwise the third special for better horizontal recovery. Don't see any advantage to the added height of the default. Can't make a call on the up special, all three options have potential. I like the first custom the least since it is an entirely vertical recovery inferior to the other options, but it's strong and might be a great followup to a side special at certain percents.

Captain Falcon

Would definitely go with the Uppercut to replace the Dive for improved recovery since it is Falcon's biggest weak point and Dive was only ever a good attack situationally (and in 64). I don't like that it's so vertical but it's so much higher it's probably worth it. Falcon with better recovery and a combo game could be downright scary. Neutral or lunging Falcon Punch could be good, I'd lean neutral just because it's stronger and already has more of a lunge than it did in Melee, Brawl, or P:M.

All the Raptor Boosts suck, and I'm not sure if any of the Falcon Kicks are any good either. They don't really look like it.

Lucina

Default counter for sure. Counters aren't great in general, but neither of the customs are any good. One is godlike powerful but the window is uselessly small, and the other trades power for an excessively long window. Likewise, her second custom neutral seems to outclass the other options, lunges forward with a long hitbox making it hard to punish or escape. Any of the up specials seem good but I'd go with the improved recovery unless I know I can use one of the others to effectively follow up in a combo. Custom dancing blades are both iffy, one is a guaranteed combo at lower percents but doesn't deal a lot of damage or allow for much of a follow up. The other is impossible to combo. I like that the heavy damage one does seem to be a good replacement for fair.

OH.. That said... does the game not have a handicap mode anymore? I haven't played a lot of 'with friends' or 'nearby' multiplayer.

There's handicap option, setting how many % each life start at.

And I just notice that profile icons are also a collectible, since I got all of them.

Interesting nobody has ripped the crowd cheers to try and solve the mystery of the Ice Climber's cheer.

What mystery? Why it's triggered?

Because we know Ice Climbers were at least tested on 3DS so we know at least some data should remain from the time they were still planned to be in the game. All there is to that.

This was funny because I think Hungrybox said it was the first time he had ever played Smash 4. And he took third. Jigglypuff OP.

Villager doesn't have an icon on sound test (like most of the other fighters do), so you can't listen to his crowd cheer. His/her crowd cheer does not appear under any other section of the sound test.

I turned the music off and confirmed that the nana/popo thing is definitely his crowd cheer no matter what.

Is that a win for the Side-Bing Ganondorf now? I think it was a draw in Brawl?

I think your opponent falls before you do in this game. I lost to a bowser like that, for sure.

I wish the Mii Fighters had more unique moves. Many of them are almost direct copies from existing versions.

Also who do I have to kill for the samurai helmet I'VE COLLECTED LIKE FOUR WALUIGI HATS

It was random. Sometimes you would, sometimes it went to SD, and sometimes it killed you first and you lost, lol. In PM I believe they fixed it so you would always win if you pulled it off. So even if P2 did win in this scenario, I wouldn't cheer yet - if it's like Brawl it could still be luck based.

So is gdorf any better in this game? I missed any potential buff discussion.

He's definitely better than brawl, that's for sure. This is primarily because you can't edge hog his poor recovery.

That said, his down/side tilts are pretty good/fast, as is his up air. His warlock punch also has super armor. His stomp is still fantastic.

He still has is awful up tilt volcano kick, but if you manage to land it, it destroys a full shield (which I pulled off on accident in 1v1 for glory).

+ gorgeous and smooth
+ the powerful cast
+ rich and easy to handle
+ emerald cut gameplay
+ the attention to details which commands respect
+ a musical selection which smells the fanservice
+ tireless local multiplayer
+ almost no latency online
+ the achievers have a lot on their plate

- very similar to the previous episode
- readability problems
- the 3DS stick lacks nuance
- quickly boring in solo
- some characters start with strong advantages

9/10 (editor's choice)

I meant go into the ROM and pluck it out in its raw form.

Somebody should make the review thread since the game is coming out in 10 days in the West.

I love the Smash demo but I just want the full game already, I need me some Jigglypuff goodness already

this

I need to try my new potential waifu Palutena, Greninja because he looks pretty fancy, Lucina because she is the new Marth, Ike because Guts is a pretty cool guy and isn't afraid of anything and finally Zero Suit Samus because she was my sub in brawl
