So Ethernet crossover cable. Yay or nay?

Fixed connections like cables will always be better and faster than wireless.
However, the problem with streaming could be that your host system isn't powerful enough to encode and send the data to your client while also running the game - or your laptop isn't powerful enough to decode it at speed. Try setting all settings to the lowest and see if you still have the same trouble. If you do, it's the wireless.

Man, that bundle... "Here, only 30$ for 3 early access games!"

Guys will an Ethernet crossover cable between my gaming PC and laptop help with Steam streaming?

I've got pretty damn good internet (100+ Mbps on Speedtest.net, Steam downloads games at about 10+ MB/s, blah blah blah) yet Streaming quality is bad, FPS are low and there's so much stuttering and FPS dips. So I'm assuming the problem is not my PC's wireless connection to the modem, but the wireless connection between the PC and the laptop??? Is this correct?

I connected my PC to the modem via Ethernet making download and Speedtest speeds much much higher (it was beautiful) yet the streaming problem is still completely there. So yeah, the PC-laptop connection is all I can think of.

So Ethernet crossover cable. Yay or nay?
In Home Streaming - as the name suggests - has nothing to do with your actual internet speed but your network bandwith at home. Generally, Ethernet connections are more stable but you might also want to take a look at the horsepower of your laptop since it needs to be rather decent to be capable of a silky smooth streaming experience.

Pay $28.95 to get this bundle and save 60% before price increases!

Also some new free pack for Ghost Recon Phantoms.
You get two games that look crap, that crap-looking game Gala's been trying to shove down our throats for like six months and a filler album! I'm about to buy five copies of this bundle.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Dear Bundle Sites,

If you're going to use Enhanced Steam's "Early Access" banners, feel free to actually use the proper files, which can be found here.

Blimey a crossover cable that is old school. Since Twisted Pair cables became the standard you don't really need them anymore so a regular Cat3 patch cable or greater that has come with every router, hub or switch for donekys years would be fine. I haven't tried plugging in one PC directly to another but Steam does need one PC to be connected to the internet for In Home Streaming to work.

Here's a recommendation though. Check if your router is 1000 BASE-T or Gigabit capable, because if it's an older 100 BASE-T or Fast Ethernet router that will be a big issue in terms of latency regardless what cables you use. Outside of fiber routers a Gigabit router is quite rare directly from an ISP even today. A cheap (and in my experience better) solution is to go invest in a Gigabit capable switch and some Cat5e or Cat6 cables (depending on length you need to run them and if there's anything electrical in the way might want to get shielded cables too). They're quite cheap and something like this or this will do the trick nicely as you plug your Ethernet into one port and the other 4 distribute it to the connected devices.

Bear in mind your internet connection quality has no bearing on your stream quality but your internal network connections needs to be up to snuff.

In-home streaming has nothing to do with internet speed.

yup, he's right. What youre looking for is your network setup. Wifi is always going to be a bit more dodgy than a direct connection.

Wow I just realised how stupid I am for thinking about internet speed for a network issue. I'm tired goddamn it.

Anyways, you guys seem to be saying the same thing about it reying on the type of connection and the power of the PC/laptop.

A little spec rundown (if it helps):
- 780 Ti
- 3570K
- 16GB 2400 MHz RAM
Etc...

So I don't think that's the problem.

But Turfster I think you could be right about the laptop being underpowered...

I mean... Could it be that I'm being a complete stupid idiot and trying to stream games at ultra settings...
It is, isn't it...

So a buddy of mine sent me this link. Here's an official post on why the AMD codes are a bit delayed.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/3487475/#Comment_3487475

Hi Michael – there has been a minor issue in code delivery in our system that we’re working through, expect it to be fixed very soon and we’re about to send out a communication to everyone who has claimed one so they are up to date. Thanks for your patience!

thanks

Well, can the laptop run complex 1080p video in fullscreen without hitching?
Simplified, that's what in home streaming is closest to on the client end.

Finally got around to messing with Banzai Pecan, but the damn game keeps randomly crashing after a couple of minutes of fighting. (Error report mentions an mmf module, so I'm guessing it's a Multimedia Fusion game?) Hope they get the issue sorted once the game's Greenlit, because when it's not crashing, it seems like a fun single-line brawler with an appealingly tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.

True. For some reason I was thinking the pre-load was bigger than it actually is.

Well we already knew it was about 14 gigs when the 360 version leaked days ago, and it was confirmed by... Stallion? earlier.

Kinda glad it's not another 50 gig monster, to be honest.

So you're saying there's a chance? Hopefully it gets resolved soon.

I'm sure we will get the codes.
eventually. Surely they won't scam us out of the codes. lol

They have 4 days before tables start flipping.
How many gaffers does it take to flip the world's biggest table?

How hard is it to
brand the 4 warchiefs
at the endgame of Shadow of Mordor?

It's actually not that difficult. If you can eliminate his
bodyguards
and find his weaknesses. It should be fairly easy to
fight him, get his health down and then brand him when his health is low.
Though it does take a while since
There are 4.

Wow, thank you for the info and suggestions!
My router is definitely neither of those. It's not an older router either.
This guy: http://www.telstra.com.au/internet/download/image/internet-bigpond-cable-new-modem-6jul.png

But cabling won't be possible as the router sits downstairs and my PC sits in my room upstairs.

Yup. It's a 3-4 year old Alienware but damn it was underpowered even brand new. I bought it and became obsolete before I could even blink. Freaking laptop GPUs. Never again.

Anyway, cheers for the rapid responses guys. Really helpful. Appreciate it a lot.

A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda EX

http://store.steampowered.com/app/315340/

What's new in EX?
25. September - Neninx10
Hi Everyone!

For us, EX is like the remake/improved version of the original A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda plus the expansion of new levels and a new playable character.

1. Five original levels are retouched and redesigned at some parts. The weapon/ability system and GUI are totally redesigned.

2. New high resolution textures as well as brand new animated cut scenes and dialogue.

3. Original enemies and bosses are also re-balanced. Some of them are improved with the new AI

4. There are 2 new levels, built from the ground up, with new enemies, obstacles, mini bosses and bosses. The story is also rewrited, so it reflects new level line up.

5. A new playable character, Tarus, is added with its own story and ending (but the sequence of levels line up is the same as Ares) Tarus comes with his own combat style and ability. I personally recommend everyone who played the original version try the new character.

6. The character leveling system and achievements are reworked.

7. New soundtracks for Tarus campaign.

In short, many things that we hope to be in the original version are here in the EX version. I do really enjoy the EX and I hope everyone here would enjoy it too.

The revenge thing for other players in Mordor is quite the nice touch. Also I'm loving the battle system. The more powerful I get, the more fun it is to get into an orgy of orcs with Captains popping in and slaughtering them all. I got so sidetracked by racking up Power and killing the Captains that I didn't progress much in the story though.

Pretty easy.
Just brand one of his bodyguards(If he has more than one you may want to brand/kill those too, just make sure you have at least one branded though) and then get him to betray the war chief. Permitting your branded captain lives and you kill the chief, he'll become the new war chief, still branded. A damn sight easier than having to mess around grabbing a warchief to brand them when they always have loads of orcs around them. The betrayal missions are also generally easier than the generic attack the warchief mission you get. Sometimes it does pop up and let you brand them just as you're about to kill them without even grabbing. However, it doesn't seem very consistent.

I have trouble understanding what you are trying to ask here exactly .
UE 4.5 update will be released next week.

PLASTICA-MAN has been saying devs making current-gen games in UE3 should have either started making them in UE4 or should port them from UE3 into UE4. He's said that ithe latter is relatively easy to do:

Big studios like Warner Bros still use UE3 while the small studios are the ones that use UE4 THE MOST. Acquiring UE4 is not sth impossible since there are so many ways to get it even fro free.

UE4 not only looks miles better, but it runs a lot better than the craptastic UE3.

Epic released tools and plugins to instantly port UE3 content to UE4. You bring your game content from UE3 to UE4 and very few clicks you convert your game to use UE4 assets with no big hurdle. Ok it won't look as good as a game built from scratch with UE4, but still it can benefit from the additions and make it look better. Also going from UE3 to UE4 is not a big difficulty for those used to work on UE3.

For example those devs switched from UE3 to UE4 with ease and got better results and they are small devs too: http://xingthegame.blogspot.com/2014/04/we-made-switch-to-unreal-engine-4.html

There is no excuse for someone to not get better. The only excuse is easy money.

I'm asking 1) when was UE4 available to devs, 2) how much work would it take to move a (modified or otherwise) UE3 game into UE4 and 3) why mention UE4.5 in regards to these games unless it was available 1-3 years ago when they started development?
