Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

Yes, this does contrast with the usual measured and sober reaction from NeoGaf users.

Fairly embarrassing for Sony, but they've always had problems maintaining their servers so this really isn't all that big of a surprise.

Still glad I'm withholding joining the PS+ community.

Withholding PS+ is actually a disservice to you cause you're missing out on some a lot of free games. Think of the online system as a bonus for now until they get the servers sorted out.

Why are people blaming PSN? This seems like a DriveClub specific issue. So the snarky "bu bu bu what am I paying for" comments just comes off as childish.

It does suck since the meat of the game is the social interaction. I really want to set up a Club but I cannot... hopefully Sony will fix this soon.

Man, the whole DriveClub project seems like something I bet they wish they never embarked on. It's been a huge mess from top to bottom which is a damn shame.

Is the console OS being streamed from the servers? It's so goddamn slow! What a clusterfuck. Can't even navigate my game library because because it just freezes after scrolling.

I'll say it again, what a load of horseshit. They can at least let us download the damn thing and sit in single player like everyone else. Once they fix the current server load issues the ps+ players are just going to break it again.

The game constantly tries to connect to the servers. Not really ideal when you are trying to sort things out, they didn't even have to give a free PS Plus trial, why can't people just be grateful they will get to try a generous free trial soon, things don't always go to plan.

Because they cant argue "but but but its what we pay for" with the Driveclub servers

Having played the game last night, I can see them being more concerned with the impression a partially functional game would have on prospective purchases (upgrades) than simply being a favor to the people who already purchased it.

As much as people complain about the wait, there's a very high chance they'll download and play it when they get a chance even if that chance is a bit delayed. What's not so certain is whether people would have enough patience to wait for server stability to judge the game if their first impression while the servers are down is "This is shit, half the game is broken!".

Yikes.

Having played the full version while servers were down, it's not a great experience. Half the menu options are grayed out, you can't make a club so you're not earning XP for it and working towards those new cars, the challenges between players aren't there, and every time you start a race there's red text scrolling across your screen where the wheel is (cockpit view) telling you're not connected. And of course MP is out of the question.

I know people are mad but I agree with the decision to push it back until they can get the server issues resolved.

Well how would you like people to react when the service they are paying for becomes unusable/unstable?

PSN is actually working fine... it is DC servers that are not working properly... just like that, ehm, competing game that was released week ago :).

Big game launch resulting in game server issues is nothing new, happens every time when there is a big launch... I cant remember what was last big game launched that did not have server issues day 1 (multiplayer focus)

Looking forward to a thread full of people who don't understand that you don't just throw money at a server infrastructure to make it magically work.

EDIT: Though that doesn't excuse that PS+ is a paid service.

Of course it doesn't per se, but, as Sony has proven to have a long history of online issues, while having a mandatory paid suscription to play online one would expect to see improvements.

Side effect. While DCs servers are an issue, messages being delayed, friends lists slow or not showing, and other assorted MP issues in other games) have the finger pointed at PSN.

I was thinking that very same thing. The reviews have been poor and they need this PS+ version to make a good impression in order to sell more copies. A non-functioning release of this version would likely make things worse.

Most people are missing the point completely. It's not PSN at fault, it's the game's mp servers which are being overloaded at launch, just like every other major online game ever (apart from Destiny). Yeah it sucks but it's nothing to do with whether we pay for PSN or not.

Each month I look at what the PS+ free games are and each month I haven't found enough reason to subscrube. I want to, but I just need to have a reason to do it. PS+ DC was going to be my reason, but now look at it.

I hope it does work out, though.

You're still paying for Driveclub PS+ version, so this distinction is meaningless.

You arent though. Sony could have given you toilet simulator 7 for whatever reason. PS+ pays for PSN which arguably is not the best network but its not offline at the moment.

Microsoft too

Everyone too.

These games companies haven't figured out how to centralize their networks and servers while offering decentriliazed flexability. Granted, they're only throwing up the walls to kill IPs when they want, and to control them with an iron fist. Allowing us to run servers would kill their models.

Well except, surprisingly, Activision. It they have sacks of cash to burn and apparently spin up enough VMs to handle launches.

Thanks everyone for ignoring dust and spelunky because you know those full titles don't count for some reason. Now that we pay for PS+ we need our shit day 1 with absolute no delay anymore, were entitled. Even if it is a driveclub server issue we should blame PSN.

Well if they can't even get their messaging system working properly, where it sometimes takes ages for a message to appear, I am
not surprised by this news in the slightest.

Wasn't TItanfall smooth as butter at launch? Or was it TLoU?

Most companies under spend on tech and infrastructure on purpose. They don't bother fixing it because they know consumers will deal with it anyway. They can manage to piss off a vocal minority of people on the internet that amount to less than 5% of the people who probably care about Drive Club anyway, in this case at least. All businesses run like this. It will never change

It's safe to say at this point, they fu*ked up this launch big time. Shame.

Sony has been advertising Driveclub PS+ version since mid 2013 as a subscriber benefit, so they really couldn't. And many people paid for their subscriptions with the knowledge that they would be getting this game as part of it.
