Forza Horizon 2 |OT| Rock You Like a Huracan

I though that I was the only person in the world that hated the 8th place stuff. That's actually just one f the things that annoy me a bit about the Forza series. I hate how the game is made to run around you. You don't feel like you're just one driver between hundreds of others; you fell like everything is made just for you, and this doesn't help with the feeling of immersion. Like, there are one hundred discount signs spread through the world, and you and only you smash these. Or like you face the races in the order you want, like you are the one making the rules, not just being a random guy beating the shit out of your rivals. Or having to win every race, or at least coming in 3rd, where every race is just a race, instead of scoring points for a championship...

These things really put me off, despite being great games.

Yeah I was giving it some thought after my previous posts and I think the problem lies with trying to put the Xbox One game onto the Xbox 360. When you consider what has been achieved with other games on the same hardware, such as Just Cause 2 and GTA V, I think the engine they used is the limitation rather than the console.

It would probably have made more sense to take FH2 on Xbox 360 in a different direction to the Xbox One version. Set it in a different location with a map that the engine can handle better. It would have made owning it alongside the Xbox One version more worthwhile too.

Hmm, I played JC2 on the PC, but I have GTA V for the X360, and it's a great game. Amazing, actually. But it doesn't run butter smooth like Horizon 1 and 2 when you're driving. So I don't know, I still think that it's a matter of design than with the engine. =B

Is it possible to change data center / server in Forza Horizon 2??
If not, is it possible at least, to verify latency?

I just did a online race here, and besides I did them well, I could only see every car sliding through the environment the entire 3 races. It was looking pretty bad.

WTF. I didn't know this. I've always wondered how the AI cars were closing the gap on me so quickly and from out of nowhere and the cross-country races were easily the toughest races to win. Typically, I'd be happy with a 3rd or 4th finish in country races. Playing on the Pro level, BTW.

That's not the only reason why they catch you. They are just much better at knowing where to go in offroad races in order to take the checkpoint after the next. A human driver concentrates mostly on the checkpoint ahead, especially when you can't see the next yet.

I was headed to a sign and out of nowhere two drivatars came over a hill and smashed it before I could get there. I had to do a race and head back there to collect the sign. Would be funny to lose a board like that and then have to challenge the drivatar to get it back. Or it would be super frustrating if he was in a zonda and you were in a jeep. lol

they cheat too though. Even in Forza 5, I've seen them drive off road like it's nothing but it's quicksand for us.

I saw a D100 race once. Sadly, nobody else voted for it.

That sounds like it would be so hilariously awesome. Right now, you can only really do that with friends in Online Freeroam. :(

I did do the Saint-Martin drag race in a D-100 beetle. Everyone blasted off the line, and I'm barely finishing the race 30 seconds after the X999's.

Seriously, does no one online know how team races work? I've been bumped off or rammed by my own team mate in every team race. Super annoying.

I've rammed another team member off the road before, but it was completely due to lag. Sometimes cars would just appear and disappear, so that may be part of it.

I noticed the other night while playing that when I was in the McLaren P1, the car was moving so fast that cars were being drawn in right in front of me so that I barely had any time to react. I also noticed trees and shrubs being drawn in while driving this car too. Has anyone else experienced this? I think it was the 2nd bucket list challenge.

Your probably right, I'm sure that happens in some cases. But some of these bumps can't be lag. I'll have to get my revenge on their drivatars. :)

I got Forza 5 at launch, and it has been BY FAR my most played game.

Now, with Horizon 2, the Forza streak continues. I basically only play other games when my friends want to play something different online.

I'm having a hard time getting used to the handling in Horizon vs. FM5, though. Cars just don't seem to turn sharply enough and they seem to slip sideways a lot... right into walls.

I just did a championship series with a dream car of mine, the Shelby Cobra. It was like riding a giant, angry greased weasel... so damn difficult! I don't use rewind (it's for losers) so I had to restart the races quite a few times. The key was learning to go easy on the throttle and give some room for the inevitable drifting. After that, I went from frustrated yelling at the screen to a big smile on my face.

Love that car. I hate that car but I love that car.

p3tran, have you noticed any of this? Because I would like to hear your opinion on the matter.
no I havent, but I read you guys, so next time I'll be extra careful to check it out.
usually I dont have full set of drivatars in front of me for long time (other than in race starts), so I dont really know what path they follow :)
what drivatar level we are talking about?

edit: until then, here's an off-road race I have in my saved video clips. this is either pro or unbeatable level drivatars. and gameplay, not replay.
http://xboxclips.com/video.php?uid=...tran&vid=4b01d9b9-58f7-48c7-b9d3-c01d31fa626c
maybe we can spot this behavior here.

edit2:
from what I see, 1) in around 1:05 minute and on, I'm rubbing sides for position with a drivadude, and even though its very easy for him to cheat and gain a big advantage (see where next set of red markers are), he fuckin' pushes me so he can pass inside the red markers.
2) even more, in about 1:45, if you know the track, that spot where the red markers are right after that bridge, and you can see that the two drivatars I'm competing for top spot, one of them takes an open wide right turn, the other splits to go below the bridge. I chose to jump over from the bridge, yet they both pass through the markers (bumping me hard in order to accomplish it)
so it doesnt look they try to cheat

edit 3:
upon second inspection, I have noticed that around ~0:50, three drivatars are duking it out in front of me for top position, and one of them, the red audi (colafizzs-something the name) seems to miss the red markers.
well, that red audi never-ever reaches close to me again, for the entire race is left behind, and on top of it in the finish leaderboard at the end of the race, we can see that mr red audi took ..tenth place.
so if drivatar was cheating and not forced out at 0:50, it sure did not help him win anything. at all. :)

I'm fucked then, can barely get an AWD Focus in a decent position. With no aids or driving lines I find myself totally off line. Even putting my foot down off-road I'm spinning. Maybe it's a shit setup.
pro tip: with the wheel, start with normal steering until you figure out some stuff (off road being one), then push up to sim steering. also maybe 900 degrees is too much for start.
you will get your ass handed over to you if you try to compete in high drivatar levels before you get the wheel familiarity. at least thats what happened to me :D
I'd say normal steering - pro drivatars is good enough challenge until you get comfy.

Nice write up P3tran. I'll have to record some video and post it too. Maybe tonight if I have the time. Also a side note, people are complaining about being on the spreadsheet and not being able to join the club. Might be time to cut some people. Club has 1000 members, spreadsheet has 556 names. I posted in the club thread, but let me know if I over stepped on that.

Thanks for the info man. I wonder if it is just some weird Drivatar glitch or idiosyncrasies that is causing this. I really wish I had recorded my last race, but I will keep an eye out.

Maybe Zorbs and I are losing it or something, but I swear I have seen the same things he has.

God fucking damnit. I haven't played in a while due to crash issues. So i boot up today get the update it says is available. Load up to complete the roadtrip back to the main horizon location and with a few miles left it stutters and freezes and then crashes to the dash. Same exact issue I was having before. I have the latest update of the preview dash, I'm not sure if that's it or what the issue is. All I want to do is play the damn game, never had issues with a game like this before.

nah, you are not loosing it. if you see it, most probably it happens. also on my video one drivadude missed one.
iirc there was some talk (devs in an interview?) about drivatars having to adjust and to learn to drive offroad.

I will be checking for this from now on to see. what drivatar level you where using when this happened?

edit:
@purg3
thats very strange. very unfortunate too. I'm also in the beta os, am level 200++++ in h2, and not even once I had a crash or a problem.
I have seen though enough people saying they have some problems, and I think I've seen that beta or no beta is not the rule of this happening.
must be another condition that triggers this. dont know what ms/t10/playground have figured out. my guess is (because what I wrote above) that it is more possible that a non-game related app could be responsible, than the betaOS.
if you do a hard reset right after that, and only run horizon and nothing else, does it crash again?

I've seen it a couple times where they miss the checkpoint and not by a small amount that could questionable but by 20-30 feet. They also still stay in the higher end in terms of pole position which leans to them not being penalized to me. Definitely going to record this next time I see it happen. This on just normal Drivatar difficulty

Did the same thing after it initially crashed to the dashboard. So I loaded up again, I changed my vehicle before I started the roadtrip and I made it to Horizon this time without a crash. I'm about to start the next roadtrip event so we will see. Very strange.

The only other difference is that I do have the game installed on a removable drive. But I seriously have like 200+ hours of Destiny logged among other games and this is the only game that ever gave me issues.

I am also running everything from an external drive since the day external hdd functionality was available, so it shouldnt be that (on its own) either.
next time, if it crashes on you, just do a hard reboot to start clean and make sure nothing else is running (I dont know if you have/there exist any 3rd party apps that auto-start, but if there are, stop them too), and then take notice if game has good behavior or not when running from a completely clean boot.

@zorbs: check pm's

I had my first crash today... was running laps in a Rivals event and, about 15 laps in, I zoned out and crashed super hard into a building... game locked up immediately. I powered off xbox, restarted and didn't lose anything - except for the XP and CR I'd earned during the Rivals event.

The online is still funky for me, though. Lots of level 1 drivers, rarely racing against GAF drivatars, Rival events vanishing - even though I wanted to save them... weird stuff.

The online was working fine for me this afternoon. I did the dashboard updated this evening and have noticed the online is messed up. Not saying one is connected to the other. Its just what happened to me. Will check again tonight after kids go to bed.

Man, the Horizon Finale event is frustrating. A few really awful (sharp turn) checkpoints and blatant catch up A.I..

25 minute event and lost the race in the last minute due to the A.I. catching up and knocking me into a wall. I don't use rewind so now I have to do it all over again. Twenty minutes wasted. Grrr (lol).

Considering all the AI talk lately, I've been wondering - Do any of the races in Horizon 2 use Drivatars? In the sense that they're used in Forza 5?

Outside of rivals challenges, the opponents seem to be classic Horizon AI. There isn't as much randomness or personality - just extremely stable cars that know where they're going.

Even in free roam it doesn't feel like those cars are modeled from the profiles of other players and friends. Cars will turn on a dime in the middle of the road and head off-road, but then stick to sometimes invisible trails across the country-side, as if they were the overgrown remains of some path that used to be in the game - and you'll find other cars tending to take the exact same route. Its weird.

Online has to be some kind of joke. Last 4 races have been team races and every single one I've been run off the road by teammates.... People don't even seem to be racing anymore light goes green and everyone just turns inwards to ram each other. This is infuriating

Yeah, this Finale event is a joke. I'm going to have to put the rewind feature on since I just don't have time to restart a 20 minute event multiple times due to catch up A.I..

so im upgrading my 12C and the Racing Differential seems to make all my stats go down, make the car weigh more and lowers the lateral G forces the car can take.... why is that?

growing up playing Gran turismo i used to love messing with tunes to my cars and would spend hours upon hours changing settings, reading up on things, ect but now I don't have as much time so when I play I generally just play stock cars in sims.

Horizon 2 on the 360 is interesting in that it lets you upgrade cars but not tune them, which for me is great lol, i can make the car faster or "better" but not have to spend hours figuring out difference tuning set ups.

It just seems weird to me that the racing diff would do this to the car. I was never a car expert anyway, so I don't know. Anyone help me with this/explain it to me?

I've ended up just driving around exploring than I really expected, now that I've finished most of the single-player. The "orb search" itch is strong.

Having finished it now (and I play on higher difficulties), this isn't something I ran into to the degree you're describing. Maintaining your grip with a clear line between checkpoints is the most important part of offroading, because any times your wheels are spinning (or you're sliding sideways), you're just throwing away engine power.

Maintaining your line is difficult when you can't see the checkpoints ahead except the next one. Although I think in cross country races at least they show you two now (if you can spot the smoke)?

When removing cars does that just take them out of your garage or do you get credit back for its value? I have quite a few that I wont drive so I want to get rid for credits that I can use on upgrades.

2. Starting grid. Why 8th place? 12 cars and you put me in 8th, every time. This has bothered me with the Forza series for awhile now. If the events really are part of a series and I won the first race, shouldn't I be in the front of the pack at the second race? I feel so ripped off after winning a tough race only to be dumped back in 8th.

Hated this in 5, didn't feel like I could increase the AI too much because, coupled with the low number of laps, you could never catch podium place in enough time. Felt like it demoted races into some 90s racing game where you try and overtake as many slow cars as possible before time ran out. Ugh.

At the very least randomise the starting positions! Or simulate qualifying from drivertars.

Ruberbanding? If there's one thing I hate in racing games is if the AI uses rubberbanding to make it more difficult. I stopped playing Motorstorm because if that bullshit.

You can only delete cars from your garage, you can't sell them.

Yeah, there was totally some rubberbanding in the finale. Only race I ever really saw it in though.

Dear Turn10 and PG, if you included this car as DLC I would insta-buy the car pass.

When you go into the settings hit "x" for the advanced settings. You want all your inside dead zones set to 0 and all your outside dead zones set to 100. FFB is up to you I have mine on 60%. With rotation I usually play FM5 at 900 but with all the off road stuff in this game I dropped it down to 420, as I felt it gave me a better feel for the cars.

Also I would turn on simulation steering first to see how you do. If you find it to hard you can always turn it off.

The big vertical UI line that goes basically to the top of the screen in addition to the red smoke worked well enough to me. I mean, you do need to be looking for where you'll plot out your driving line, but it's not something that caused problems.

Yes. I do not understand why you don't get half credits for removing (selling) a car. Same thing in F5. When they removed the auction house after f4 they dropped selling back any items, like parts or cars.

Really stupid imo and when they made all of those changes last year to f5's monetary system I thought for sire they would do that. Makes no sense.

Also... in top 50 for club xp so far this week :) shooting for tier 2 but may not have enough time this weekend

It was ok in Forza 5 for me because you could at least rent the cars before buying them. In Horizon 2 if you spend 2 million on a car that turns out to be undriveable you're feeling stupid.

The one decision I absolutely don't understand is why they didn't go for Forza 5's ranking system. Being able to get gold medals for the first three places made online much more rewarding and less infuriating, it made me turn up drivatar difficulty all the way and it was just a great change that you didn't have to win every event to progress in the career.

Going to Gamestop to pick up a couple games. Mordor is a lock but I'm going back and forth between The Evil Within and Forza Horizon 2. I know they're both different games, but I'm interested to see which one that people with both have been having the most fun with.

I still never see GAF club drivers when I'm playing... I just did the finale and all the drivatars were just randoms... same with Freeroam. Just random AI cars. Only when I play rivals do I actually race against GAF members. Anyone else have the same issues?

This game is bloody superb. Bought my Xbox One yesterday and frankly it was worth it just for this game alone.

EnVy_CaLiBeR - You can't go wrong with Mordor and Horizon. Both are great fun. Mordor could possibly suffer from being a bit repetitive later on maybe, but it's great fun to play. Evil Within is pretty decent, but technically it has a few problems here and there (PS4 version, I'm not sure on the xbox one version)

I'm not even in the club and half of the Drivatars are GAF.
