Yeah there is an undercurrent to most of the reviews about how easy the game is and repetitive the mission structure is. 2 things that would otherwise kill most other games score wise, or atleast push it into the low 80's type of score. Infamous for example got hammered for repetitive missions even though it also had incredibly imaginative and fun traversal and cool attacks from powers and whatnot. So as always, there is no consistency from one review to the next even if you could have 2 games with identical problems getting completely different review vibes lol, but that is par for the course these days. Destiny was one of those " very fun to play but too repetitive " type reviews which pushed it to a 78-83. SO sounds like it is " very fun but too repetitive " and it stays in the 85-92 range.

I guess if you are going to go repetitive, then just keep it at third person and keep it more to Dead Rising style gameplay.

I'll head over to a friends house this week and check it out. If anything it sounds like classic Insomniac so it will be fun.

It's because of the colors and the traversal. It really does resemble it and the funny looking characters and art style.

Last night, a ton of GAFfers we're guessing the metacritic score specifically. One person said 65-70 without any sort of justification. Lots of other folks guessed around the mid-70s. The game is obviously much better than what many have guessed. This thread is about reviews. Why not call out people for their unrationalized opinions?

Also what matters to you doesn't necessarily matter to everyone else and vice versa.

I think there is a difference between repetitive mission structures and literally forcing a player to repeat missions multiple times.

83 is a really good score when taken across the spectrum. When at University (in the UK) if you wrote an 83% paper the lecturers would be gushing over how it had the 'potential for publication'.

I know the metric is not quite the same in gaming, but I think 83 for a new IP on everyone's least favourite console (I own XO by the way) is pretty good going.

Still reckon Edge will give it a 7 though.

I'd go for "prepared for worse" than "expected worse".

It's a brand new IP, with a years worth of hype behind it. In most circumstances that ends up in disappointment so I'm sure many people were being realistic in that not being successful was a possibility.

Also, Ben Moore rated Bayonetta 2 10/10. I would trust their reviews.

So far with this gen upper 70s and 80s appears to the the sweet spot. Many of those games are outstanding.

That's how I feel about the humour from what I have seen of the game. Computer games in general haven't ever really managed to hit the comedy mark well, the games that get the closest for me would be Rockstar games.

I'm sure this game will be fun to play though.

Great scores, i'm happy last gens 9 are current gens 8.

Not my type of game tho, had fun infamous but got bored midway. Open world games are not really for me, only one i've managed to beat is GTA V thanks to the characters mostly.

But great to see Insomniac deliver, coolest guys in the industry.

I never understood this, it always looked like a pretty fun game with some nice animations and traversal. Thinking it would get those scores leads me makes me wonder if it's because they don't own the console and thus wanted it to get those scores, maybe just my taste in games.

It always seemed to me like a bread and butter 8/10 game unless the devs really fucked up somewhere Insomniac were certainly playing to their strengths on this.

Good for Insomniac! Glad they haven't lost it. Last gen was very uninspiring from them.

Think I'll wait til this hits bargain bins simply because the combat looks too easy to manipulate, but I'm sure lots of people will get a kick out of the game.
