No Man's Sky "Super Special Announcement" at PlayStation Experience

Isn't NMS already announced a PS4 being the primary console with a PC port hinted at? Nothing has even been confirmed for X1, and all the updates are with PS teams. Why announce some full-exclusivity or anything of the sort, it's unnecessary. A special thing for people attending would be something playable, so I'm hoping it's Morpheus personally.

That thread title. Nowhere does it say anything about an announcement. It's most likely a playable demo for attendees.

That's the kind of stance I respect.

I can tell you are eagerly anticipating the outrage ;)

I vote for Morpheus

although that one comment Shu made about Morpheus not "lending itself to cockpit views" or somesuch troubled me a bit... Maybe it was a translation thing

Hmm I only remember him saying that about Driveclub, you got some link?

I'm not really as hyped for this game as most of gaf is, but I still intend to buy this day 1. Two announcements that would be smart IMO. This announcement I'm assuming has got to be about release date/beta, Morpheus support and some type of exclusive "content"/console exclusive

What I'd like to see:
- Morpheus to include NMS. This makes so much sense at this point.
- Playable offline mode.

Probably Morpheus with it being playable for attendees. Memorable, notably, for people who can attend, implies something about the announcement attendees can experience.

yeah, otherwise they wouldn't have mentioned it being "special to the attendees of the event"

It would be cool if a screen suddenly turns on at the back of everybody's seat with No Man's Sky on it and a compartment opens up with headphones and a DS4 inside so they can play the game right then and there. #BOOM

First row attendees are shit out of luck.

I hope it's something actually new and interesting information this time. The Molyneyx style bullshit and the articles that keep recycling the same old information have been really disappointing and dropped my interest almost entirely.

If Sony *has* in fact bough full exclusivity, I will be first in line to procclaim it a douche move. And the only current gen console I own is PS4.
As an owner of all current gen consoles I think sony buying exclusivity would be a great business move. Sometimes good business sense may not make everyone happy.

Edit:
This is most likely not what this is talking about. I still think Sony should grab this up and make it an exclusive.

Hope it's morpheus. Hope we hear a lot more of morpheus in general at this thing. "playstation experience" after all. Hell, with how they name things, "Playstation Experience" seems like a potential consumer name for morpheus.

Better be release date. "And you can pick it up in the playstation store.............right now! Also built from the ground up for VR!"

I thought that was already confirmed?

Well we almost made it through a thread of No Mans Sky without some of this terrible logic, comparing this game to Molyneux when there is a reason he has the reputation he does through, you know, years of over hyping and under delivering unlike the devs here.

I hope i'm wrong but how the game is marketed reminds me a lot of lionhead studios. From what i have gathered, the game itself seem to be very, VERY simple gameplay-wise.

No matter how much they add some people will be disappointed. I just don't read previews, I have found it's the best way to keep expectations in check.

Yeah, the game itself looks pretty bad. Just the promise of how large the world is is all that people are really hyping on, no one knows what you actually do in it.

I think this could be a great demo for Morpheus though.

If Sony is going to buy a Studio i hope it's Housemarque, they're pretty much Playstation Exclusive Devs anyway. Outland is the only Game i can think of that was Multiplat.
Morpheus sounds right, they need one big Game that People will buy it for and No Man's Sky would be this Game. Full Exclusivity would be crazy, imagine the Riots on the Interwebs

Not this bullshit again?!

Im not gonna go and link it but check previous NMS threads where a huge list has been written on all the activities we know for certain you can do in the game.

you know jack shit
This is the answer to why some people continually criticize NMS for things that have been clarified before.

If previous form is anything to go by, al is going to have the biggest meltdown of all if the unlikely scenario being tossed around pans out. He can't quite handle anything being PS exclusive it would seem (See: Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Bloodborne threads).

It's not gonna be anything to do with exclusivity though. It'll be release date and/or Morpheus/Rift support. I'd bet my account on it.

This please.

When do you all think Morpheus will launch?
There hasn't been that much news as of late.
Ideally the summer. Can't launch Q1 obviously, it's too late to market it, and they have core normal games in that window. Don't want to launch fall when you're trying to sell consoles, and you have your core titles like UC4 to sell.

If they can get any strong Morpheus titles ready for the summer, and they can get the hardware ready to ship, it would be a nice window.

Summer is by far my most optimistic estimate. I'm thinking late 2015 if 2015. 2016 is getting really late for a core console feature IMO though, I really do hope it's 2015.

"And we are coming out with an exclusive PS+ Edition you can download on launch day if you're a subscriber!"

Oh, so that means they string us along for a year or more after they said they'd give it to us? ;).

Anyways, I'm hoping it's a release date or Morpheus support (not that that would help me as I'm too poor to justify Morpheus but at least then it would be an option if I ever get a better job or some how finagle my way to getting one).

Part of me wants it more to be a release date that is soon. Another part of me that says I should think more longterm says I should be hoping for Morpheus support. Sure, it's more instant gratification for it to be out sooner, but in the long run that will be forgotten once I get the game.

I highly doubt it is an exclusive. That doesn't seem to be something you'd announce that a secret surprise is coming cause it's not that exciting to anyone save maybe the people upset they aren't going to get it. I'll admit that some people will be excited for it being an exclusive as people like thinking they have access to something others do not, let's not pretend here, but it's not that exciting that it warrants them having some tease about the announcement. In the end it really doesn't even help those who would be excited it was an exclusive that much to be a "stay tuned" kinda announcement.

Purely hypothetical of course, but I'm actually more curious as to how PS4 fans will react to a potential exclusivity of No Man's Sky, since in that case it would be an even worse situation than the Tomb Raider timed exclusivity deal. Will there be similar outrage from them?
That depends entirely on how the exclusivity arises. If Hello are planning an XBone version and Sony pay them to scrap it, that would be pretty shitty.

If Hello decide they're already making plenty of money on the PS4, and being a small team, they'd rather not deal with the Bone at all, well, some things can't be helped.

Yeah, I know they're intentionally trying to keep things under wraps, but we do actually have a good amount of stuff to go by. This is the Destiny scenario all over again. For those who followed the stream of info they put out, it was obvious what the game was going to be like generally, but until the alpha people just complained that they didn't know what the game was supposed to be.

I cant wait for the unveil that "Super Special Announcement at PlayStation Experience" is just some elaborate booth where visitors can see new trailer of the game.

There is also the issue of context. If Microsoft is running around securing exclusives for the XB1 then Sony might not have any choice but to do the same. Just like if I hit you first it is assault, but if you hit me back it is self defense. Both are the same action but they are perceived much differently.

Additionally, Microsoft's parity clause could be working against them. They push to have games come out at the same time and be feature consistent on all platforms. That could have given Hello Games no choice but to go exclusive with Sony or at least created some bad blood with Microsoft.

Finally, I could see Sony buying Hello Games or securing exclusivity for No Man's Sky in order to allow them to allocate resources to help with Project Morpheus integration.

So I agree that how exclusivity comes about is important. If it is simply a blocking move to prevent a game appearing on another console then it deserves our criticism. If on the other hand it is a defensive move, encouraged by MS's heavy handed policies, or a move to expand the features of the game, it's not 'evil'.

It has to be more than that since they already announced demos of other games and set this apart from that. However I could see them offering a non interactive Project Morpheus demo of the game that showed the viewer walking among dinosaurs and flying over various planets.

My sources tell me this is when they finally show the game and not just flying a spaceship from one planet to another.

I think Morpheus support is likely; however what I really want to see is the game's technical aspects coming together. Especially the following:

- Terrain: I want to see how complex the different kind of terrain is from planet to planet. I'm really hoping they can make this really interesting. Also I'm interested in how well they can handle the LOD from different altitudes in a planet/moon/etc while flying around.

- Long distance travel: So far I have only seen interplanetary travel, but the planets have been very close to each other so far. I want to see a scenario where I’m standing at a planet's surface at night and I see a dot in the sky and then I jump in my ship and fly towards the dot until I reach it.

- I would love to hear more about the multiplayer aspect of the game.

I don't think I’ve ever been so excited for a game in years. If they deliver on half of what they're promising, it will still blow my mind.
