PS4 Remote Play working on any (rooted) Android 4.4+ phone

The modders over at XDA have made the remote play APK work on any 4.4 Android phone. I'm using it on my G3 now and it works fantastic. They don't have the DS4 working yet, but it comes with an on-screen gamepad that's fine for anything that would be turn based. The guide is really easy to follow, given that you know what you're doing (which you will if you've rooted your phone).

Sorry for the horrible picture quality. Couldn't get a screenshot and my Vita was the only other camera I had.

Unroot me if old

Any chance this will come to non-rooted soon? Would like to try it on my wife's xperia M2. Alternatively I have a nexus 4 I can experiment no but never rooted anything before.

Rooting on an N4 is ridiculously easy. Definitely worth checking out.

I have a G3 too - I'm guessing rooting isn't too bad?

I'm gonna wait until DS4 support is working. I have no desire to use touchscreen controls on console games.

Rooting is easiest with the T-Mobile G3 since the bootloader is unlocked on it. It's a little more difficult on others, but still not too bad.

I'd be happy to test this on my S4 if it had controller support. Surely Sony will drop this functionality into the app sooner or later anyway though?

would a samsung tab s be up to the job? i've only ever rooted a shitty old phone before, never anything i cared about or that had any value, would deffo be if for this if possible once it can be paired with a ds4, my man hands and vita just don't get on.

Would the ds3 work? Haven't rooted my z2 yet, but might for this.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing no. In the app, it specifically looks for the DS4.

It's not the app that's the problem. I can actually sync my DS4 to my G3 and it works for everything EXCEPT remote play. More than likely the Z3 has some special libs that have to be ported over to make other phones work with the DS4.

So this is an extremely dumb question for most of you, but what does rooting a phone do to it? I have a G3 and have heard the term, but am not sure what it does to the phone. I am definitely interested in Remote Play on it though.

Rooting gives you system level access to your phone. It let's you modify anything on your phone and get rid of manufacturer and carrier bloat

And it technically voids your warranty.

I got this working with my 2012 N7. The lag is very noticeable though. It's pretty much unplayable. Remote play on my Vita is way better. My PS4 is hard wired in so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Sony are releasing this bad boy soon:

I want one, not for Remote Play, but so I can play emulators and native Android games comfortably on my Z3.

awesome. if i didn't already have a vita, i'd be all over this

EDIT: as an aside. sony should just release a universal android remote play app and just charge $5-10 for it for non sony devices

Yeah, it works wonderfully on my Galaxy S4. Still waiting for the DS4 pairing tool to work before I use this more.

Got it working on my dads Z1 (only z2 and z3 are officially supported). Works well enough, now we just have to wait for someone to figure out how to connect the DS4 to the phone.

The DS4 sub account trick works nicely here btw. A lot easier than on the vita since you don't have to worry about resetting when you change accounts.

My DS4 works with this on my HTC One M8. Someone mentions how you can do it in the thread, but I can't remember the post number.

Are you doing the local connection trick? Where the DS4 is actually connected to your PS4 and not the M8?

Gonna wait a while. Android 5.0 is releasing soon which I'll want to update to, and DS4 pairing is a must. So once 5.0 is rooted with DS4 pairing, I'm in.

Any Nexus mobile or tablets are pretty easy to root compared to other brands.

The problem at the moment is that this relies on cloaking your root from the app, which can only be done in two methods:

1) Removing the SU from your phone (basically unrooting)
2) Using Rootcloak, which requires Xposed framework, which requires the Dalvik runtime. Lollipop uses the ART runtime, which Xposed doesn't support (yet).

So, for now, it's only doable on 4.4 - 4.4.4

So does this mean I can delete the pre-installed apps that normally can't be uninstalled?

This sounds fucking miserable to play a game this way. It's cool, in theory, to be able to play like this, but I can't imagine it being very fun past the first 30 seconds of showing someone.

That's exactly what it means.

When an SRPG comes out for the PS4, it'll be amazing.

I don't get how it holds it in place. Is it a magnet or a suction cup?

Also, I've been using the Nyko smart clip. Cheap, gets the job done. I love how the Xperia Z3 recognizes the PS4 controller. Works perfectly play emulation games.

It's a suction cup. The Z3 has a glass back, so the suction cup works great for it.

Would the performance of an android emulator like genymotion be good enough to use this? Would it be possible?
