Rumor: First Screens From Telltale's Game of Thrones

it's a telltale game alright. I gotta see video before I judge, graphics like this usually don't work well without great animation.

It's funny to hear people badmouth the screenshots because Telltale's achille's heel in the graphics department is animations. So get ready to vomit violently when the first video hits.

I wonder if they'll tackle the sex and violence similarly to the show, or will do more of a PG13 version of it.

Not interested either way, because of TellTale's past crappy QA, but curious about that aspect.

I was kind of hoping that the characters would be slightly different from their show counterparts. These seem like straight up scans from the show put into the game.

The game introduces a new House, House Forrester, who are Stark bannerman in the North, who will be the main protagonists in the story. So the characters you don't recognize will most likely be House Forrester people.

Sure, it's a cutscene
That's supposed to lead into the fact that so are the Telltale games right? (not disagreeing here - in terms of processing load, that's exactly what they are).

Love GoT but I am done with Telltale, their atrocious engine and their games looking like PC adventures from ten years ago. And considering how limited their games are I really don't understand why they opt for 3D.

Compared to Walking Dead and Wolf these look great.

Walking Dead looked great because it was emulating the comic book style.

This looks like it's trying to look good, but failing horribly.

I hope they just completely splinter off current story, and just make it an alternate universe where crazy shit happens.

not a fan, sadly. i was looking forward to a new set of characters within the universe, this feels like fanfic.

should have been based on the book series, allowing greater range for animating characters. this is nearing uncanny valley level stuff mimicking the show so much.

Ew, show characters. I'm not playing a game with Natalie Dormer in it. That girl scares me.

you're nuts, she's dreamy

Why doesn't Telltale use actual motion capture and spend money on developing a new engine? Their games have cool art styles, but have pretty awful bugs in animation and motion.

I feared for how Lena Headey would look in Telltale's engine, but the screenshot confirms she looks spot on!
Good job Telltale.
I like their stylization.
I'm definitely in for this. GoT story & Telltale game design is a match made in heaven and if they can fix their engine and finally get it to perform properly this will be glorious. Even if they don't and the game runs like crap like all their other ones it will probably still be pretty awesome.

Interst severely crippled. I thought this was going to be Walking dead and have a few characters appear briefly but a new story be told. I wanted something set during Roberts Rebellion. I misread the rumors and thought this was going to be set during Balons earlier rebellion pre season 1 but it seems I was mistaken. I'm goona laugh hard if the Game of Thrones RPG had a more original story...

Based on these screens, it looks like the game will follow the timeline in book 3/season 3 and 4. Tyrion has his scar, Margery is in King's Landing, etc. I hoped we would have gotten an original story set in the GoT universe, rather than something following established routes. Having a lot of characters that has to be at a certain point when the story ends, isn't very interesting to me. It just seems like pure fan service.

God damn it, TellTale. Free yourselves of the awful television license and just do the books. This would be like them using the likenesses of the cast members from TWD in their game.

Because they want their games to be playable on your toaster.

The Wolf Among Us looked cool at times, at least.

Not the best character models around, but they'll look better when they're not buried under godawful jpeg compression from fifteen years ago, eugh.

Looks like an oil painting, it's a very striking and unique aesthetic. I like it a lot.

I don't get all the hate... Were you expecting something 3D and realistic? That's not Telltale's style.

I playtested the first episode of this.

Looks like they've improved the lighting a bit, if these are in-game screenshots.

I don't really care about gfx, they look totally fine *shrug* As long as plot and voice acting are decent, I'm good. It's a Telltale game, after all.

i am not sure what to expect here. I love game of thrones but damn this look horrible.

I mean. some Android games look better than this !!

What were you guys expecting for the graphics? This isn't supposed to be a next gen Taletale game it's going to come on every system they can put it on.

Well, they did. TWD cast members had cameos in the game.

Who? Season 1 ony had Glen and Hershel/Shawn all three of which were modeled after the graphic novel version of the characters.

Uncanny valley? What are you on?

If anything the more painterly take on the characters is to avoid an uncanny valley look in the first place.

If you go any more realistic than this, it often stands out that the animation and little details like the eye movement aren't quite on par with the textures, which makes the whole thing look weirder than a more stylized look like this.
