is beloved, despite what anyone might say
And I thought Square was the only JRPG company GAF hated. Wow...

I take it you're new to GAF? Every RPG dev has gotten hate at one point or another, but I'd say the most universally hated are Compile Heart and Idea Factory. Who is the most universally loved? Apart from pre-merger Squaresoft I have no idea...

Atlus probably.

I recall him having this huge bulletpoint thing where he was talking about how the game would have the GRAPHICS OF FF, the STORY OF DQ, and the SCALE OF MH... or something like that.

Well, to be fair, those are all pretty accurate summations of what WKC eventually ended up as... so long as the FF you're talking about is FFXII, the DQ you're talking about is DQIX, and you replace "scale" with "fun" for MH's part that describes WKC pretty perfectly to me.

I kid... I actually thought it was okay for the multiplayer at least, and the combat system was actually quite neat, if not so well implemented.

Calling it right now.

That would be an instant system seller for me.

Yeah, relatively new. But I don't see much hate for other companies other than SE and the Japanese focused ones (like CH and IF). Atlus is one I rarely see hate around here.

I don't know about the most universally loved, but as far as publishers of JRPGs that are held in high regards, I've never really run across much hate for Working Designs from US based JRPG fans.

I wonder how L5 will handle this IP if it turns into a series.. will they reset the world, the characters and story ect.. or will they continue with Oliver.

Anyone remember the crazy self-promoting hype coming out from Hino when he first announced White Knight Chronicles? I recall him having this huge bulletpoint thing where he was talking about how the game would have the GRAPHICS OF FF, the STORY OF DQ, and the SCALE OF MH... or something like that. Can't remember exactly what he said, but man, the kool-aid must have been fucking strong. ;P

Do you remember that conference they had where they ended with a game service and showed off a new console as a joke? I hear your feels.

Than they made Ni No Kuni.

I totally think they could continue Ni no Kuni with an older Oliver but in a different world. Here's a very minor spoiler from Ni no Kuni: they blatantly point out that there are many different parallel worlds in the post game (and during the story). Given that Oliver is uniquely qualified to travel between different worlds, and by the end of NNK becomes quite the Wizard, I can see him traveling to a different world to right some wrongs.

I personally hope it's a new IP from Level-5. Something mature and not anime-ish this time around. Don't get me wrong... I absolutely LOVE Ni no Kuni. I would just like to see them branch out a little for their next JRPG.

NNK was such a wonderful game, day one if a sequel actually materializes. This will probably be a new IP, but I'm interested in seeing what it is regardless.

Speaking of their conferences.... they seem to be skipping their Level 5 Vision event this year entirely. Lol.

Oh my Japanese traditional third party devs are indeed getting serious about PS4. I remember some Sony guy stating PS4 exceeding expectations at Western market has waken up Japanese third parties. While I assumes that was some PR thing, it looks like there were some truth within that after all.

This is really surprising. I didn't expect any big game announcement at all.

The SCEJ guy kept saying this meeting with Hino was setup just to have some nice talk with memories of PS3 games like WKC and such, and nothing more.
Yeah right :D

It probably will be just another Final Fantasy7 remake or maybe a new gears of war.
But seriously i cant wait to see what it is :)

Really semantic, but I wish people wouldn't abbreviate Ni no Kuni as NNK.

The "no" is a grammatical particle used to show the relationship between Ni and Kuni. It doesn't have any inherent meaning of its own so it doesn't deserve to be capitalized and included in the acronym.

It would be similar to capitalizing "of", "and" or any other connective word. Similarly, those are usually left out of acronyms, so "no" should be too :p

On topic though, I would love a sequel or a new IP!

They will never make a Dark Cloud sequel, they wanted to years ago but they didn't see the fan desire for it.

It's likely Ni No Kuni 2.

Ha! I did not know this. Reminds me of my little rant in the Sunset Overdrive OT of people abbreviating that game as SSOD when its abbreviation should only be SO. So I guess Ni no Kuni should only be abbreviated to NK?

Just to be clear, there is nothing stopping them from making a new NNK without Ghibli on board right? I mean, it would probably lose all its essence since the Ghibli music and artstyle is what made the game so special, but considering that Ghibli is currently on standby due to restructuring and such, its the only possible outcome I see, if the game do exist, of course.

SSOD annoys me much more. I can forgive NNK, because unless you know a bit of Japanese grammar, I wouldn't expect anyone to know that.

But making "sunset" into "SS"? Ugh. >.<

I'd sick with NK or Ni no Kuni, yeah.
