Telltale games and Mojang announce MINECRAFT: STORY MODE (stand-alone product)

Not what I wanted. Anyway, how many story games do Telltale work on at the same time? They can`t even release decent games once they do.

Through this game, millions of kids will become fans of the point-and-click adventure genre. It's a brilliant move on Telltale's part.

"See Sam & Max here? It's like Minecraft Story Mode, but with a funny dog and rabbity thing who solve cases and get into trouble."

This is exactly how I'm interpreting it as well. My little brother loves Minecraft and now I can introduce him to an adventure game that uses Minecraft, which he loves, to get his interest in the first place.

This is still how I feel about this. Wolf and Walking were decent games but I wish Telltale would come out with their own IP. It's like they basically require handouts from other franchises to survive as a company.

Megaton. Possibly the only thing better than the LEGO Poker Night announcement I was expecting. I can't wait to choose between being polite and rude to a creeper before it explodes, or the dramatic season finale where your faithful pet wolf removes its rubber mask to remove it was Herobrine all along.

Honestly? I probably will be. I don't believe the current MC market is particularly interested in a narrative driven game set in the MC universe. That's missing the entire point of why MC is so appealing.

I think it's very safe to say that out of the tens of millions of copies of Minecraft sold, they can find enough of an audience interested in an official Minecraft narrative to make it worth the while. Doesn't even have to be anywhere close to a majority at this point.

Do they just take any idea they get thrown at them now?

There is no possible way they'd have gotten the IP or announced the product without a very clear vision for how they're going to pull it off.

I feel like this is really smart.

Non-rhetorical question: Has any developer been as consistent in terms of quality, while being as varied, as far as theme goes, with licensed games?

These games are made for each respective niche audience. I'd love to see their take on almost anything, honestly. They could make their own games and universes but I got so excited at the GoT and Borderlands announcement. I'd certainly be down for more.

Well, it could be interesting, I think. I've played lots of Minecraft mods with missions and adventures, so with great writers behind it could be good.

I thought Tales from the Borderlands would end up being horrible. It didn't.
I thought Game of Thrones would end up being horrible. It didn't.
This time I'll just skip forward to "It will probably be pretty good".

Also, the Minecraft hate on Gaf is unreal.

Much of GAF seems to be so detached from the massive ground swell of children growing up where Minecraft is 1,000x more important than Mario ever will be to them in their lives. Look how many dumb fuck games Mario was shoehorned into through the years. Yeah, cause golf and tennis make sense with Mario's "story." Minecraft is a massive brand name and icon for kids these days. You can make anything with "Minecraft" on it and they will probably love it. If this is a way to introduce kids to the adventure game genre as well, more power too them. Tales from Borderlands seemed like an awful idea when first announced but it seems to be getting a lot of praise.

If you "don't get Minecraft" then there is nothing I or anyone else can say to make you understand. The only thing I could suggest is watch some kids play it. Maybe then you will get it even if you don't enjoy playing it yourself.

This pretty much, also the Lego Movie posts.

I'm pretty much done with Telltale. I enjoyed the Walking Dead season 1, but I didn't finish season 2 and they took forever to release the second episode of The Wolf Among Us and I lost interest. Then they announced the Borderlands game and I realized that they're just cashing in left and right now. Which is even more obvious with this announcement.

That's just how Telltale works, man.

Yeah and I will forever think bad thoughts about them until they change their ways.

"See Sam & Max here? It's like Minecraft Story Mode, but with a funny dog and rabbity thing who solve cases and get into trouble."

Or they'll be like... this isn't Minecraft. This is bad.

Just saying it could go both ways :)

I might enjoy the game though.

"See Day Of The Tentacle here? It's like Sam & Max, only much, much better."

No need to take sides. More love for adventure games is a good thing.

Although I suppose DotT — and Grim Fandango — would be better examples considering remasters of them are set to come out next year.

But everything Telltale has made in the past couple years has been pretty far removed from the classic P&C genre, despite a rudimentary inventory puzzle here and there.

Gateway drugs, man. Weed is pretty far removed from heroin, but it could still get you there eventually.

So many great IPs out there that Telltale could attempt to work on and we get Minecraft.

I'm not sure I could think of a game that is more ill fit for Telltale's formula. Absolutely zero interest in this.

Why, it got really good reviews, I'm not sure you can call this "cashing in left and right".

Who is this game for?

I'm guessing they're going for the "original Teltale story" in another universe thing, but Minecraft just seems like a poor choice of universe IMO.

I liked the idea of using these properties, but their games still run like shit. Turned me off buying their stuff.

But weed is so much better than Telltale games.

Telltale games are like bath salts. They are bad for you.

I don't even hate Telltale, just being facetious.
