Notch is apparently worth more than a billion dollars. Not sure why people are criticizing him for such an investment.. I am sure mindsets change when you are worth that much, and you know you will be making many more tens of millions in the near future.
Would I have done something like this? Probably not. But it's completely understandable.. Especially when you consider he technically made an investment in the form of real estate.

Yeah, its a really strange reaction on a videogame forum. Any amount of money invested in a home that he and his family can live in for generations is certainly better spent than the hundreds or thousands of dollars people around will frivolously throw away on video games every year.
Hundreds or thousands of dollars that could just as easily be donated to charities and used to feed starving children. It doesn't take $70 million to make a difference.

I'd rather have a house built according to my own specifications. That house literally has a motorcycle in the living room, or whatever that room is, and it doesn't look out of place.
I like that one bathroom though, it's so hilariously ostentatious/rich assholey. That's where they should've put the motorcycle. A large, shiny room with a pillowed porcelain bowl in the middle of it, in which you are to lie naked as you gaze out of a giant window looking down at the plebs. It's a room in which it is impossible to not get the urge to biddy biddy bum in the nude some.
I am now thinking about nude notch. He's still wearing a hat.

Unless he's keeping things very quiet, last I saw he was divorced back in 2012. I'd guess he just wants the house to throw parties, or construct some sort of superhero/supervillain base.

I am not sure about your apartment, but NYC is quite pricey. Your two bedroom apartment might be worth over a million. I know it is personal, but does your apartment make up more than 3% of your net worth? You are acting like he is MC Hammer and he bought a house that cost more than he had. Bill Gates spent 60 million building a house when he only had 4 billion. Being worth billions is different than being worth millions. The millionaires that I know personally all live in fairly normal (but nice) houses.
Some of you guys are acting like Notch is a rookie point guard and not a billionaire. He could buy a mansion like this every year and still be a billionaire. He has a lot more money than Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian.
