XSEED GAMES TO RELEASE BRANDISH: THE DARK REVENANT FROM CELEBRATED DEVELOPER NIHON FALCOM ON JANUARY 13
Death Awaits Around Every Deceptive Corner in Classic Dungeon-Crawling Action RPG, Available Digitally on PSP and Compatible with PlayStation®Vita

Torrance, Calif., (January 8, 2015) - XSEED Games, the independent-minded console publishing brand of Marvelous USA, Inc., today announced that the dungeon-crawling action RPG adventure, Brandish: The Dark Revenant, will be available for digital download on January 13, 2015 in North America for the PSP (PlayStation®Portable) system for $19.99, and will also be compatible with the PlayStation®Vita handheld entertainment system. Featuring an innovative "world turning" mechanic, players will be immersed in a third person real-time dungeon-crawling adventure with a first person flair, dungeon walls rotating around their avatar as each corner is turned.

Brandish: The Dark Revenant is an action-oriented reimagining of a cult classic from the annals of Nihon Falcom, the storied developers of the highly-acclaimed Ys and The Legend of Heroes RPG franchises. Players take on the role of swordsman Ares Toraernos as he climbs his way through over 40 sprawling floors of monsters, traps and puzzles in an attempt to escape a long-forgotten underground labyrinth. Along the way he repeatedly encounters his arch-rival, the voluptuous sorceress Dela Delon, who’s just as interested in claiming the bounty on his head as she is in escaping the maze herself. With each floor boasting unrelenting enemies fought in real time, elaborate booby traps, ancient treasures and thousand-year-old mysteries to solve, Brandish promises to keep players fighting for survival till the bitter end.

This venerable ‘90s classic returns with a highly polished recreation of its ominous maps, cunning puzzles and sinister traps, but adds smoother gameplay, revamped boss battles, enhanced graphics, newly arranged music and more. Unrelenting monsters lurk in ancient ruins, cursed caverns and otherworldly planes alike, and every step taken can result in death as false floors, false walls, spikes, poison traps, boulders, teleporters and other deadly surprises position themselves between Ares and his freedom. Those seeking a moment of respite can play the slots or challenge NPCs to an original card game called “Blade,” but that’s only if they can find one of the game’s well-hidden casinos.

Completing the adventure as Ares unlocks the expert-level "Dela Mode," in which players take on the role of sorceress Dela Delon and challenge over 10 never-before-seen additional floors. Harder enemies, crueler traps and even more maddening mazes must be conquered as players experience a new perspective on the story and a new magic-centric approach to combat.

Brandish: The Dark Revenant is published by XSEED Games in North America and will be available for digital download on January 13, 2015 for the PlayStation®Portable system for $19.99 (also compatible with PS Vita). This title has been rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB with the descriptors Violence, Blood, Suggestive Themes, Partial Nudity, Mild Language and Use of Tobacco.

Ugh... Same day as Atelier Ayesha Plus... why are the games I want to play end up having the same release dates?!

Tom had already teased the release date in another thread, but I'll still act like this is a huge surprise.

FUUUCKKK YESSSS, DAY 1!

I've waited for this game FOR YEARS, it's finally fucking here, oh god. MY VITA IS READY!

Edit: 19.99? WHHHATTTTT? I added 40 bucks to my PSN account just for this game, the game is so cheap!

Since PSPs can no longer access the PSN store, I hope there aren't any hiccups transferring it from a PS3.

Woohoo ! and only $20
Will this be available directly from the Vita on the PSN store ?
Or do we need to download in ps3 first and then transfer to Vita ?

$20? Holy shit.

Definitely picking it up.

If they want anybody outside of the most niche fanbase to buy it they have no choice sadly. I have no idea what this game is but I am probably gonna give this a spin. If there is one publisher I'll happily support it's XSEED.

A psp game in 2014? Gamestop doesn't even sell the games anymore outside of clearing old stock.

2015. And it's not getting a retail release.
But there's still the issue I mentioned above, which is that PSPs can no longer access the PSN store.

Am I crazy or wasn't this going to be released on PC here as well, like Trails? It's hard to keep all this stuff straight.

I swear I'm not port begging.

Right, still ridiculous.

This game is clearly inteded for Vita owners, so I don't see how it's ridiculous. And at that price, freaking amazing.

I own the import version(haven't finished it yet but I've played it for several hours, damn language barrier) and the game is simply amazing, I'm really happy to finally get a chance of enjoying the game in English and for others to play it. Fuck yeah, Xseed.

Something has to tide me over until SC releases and, judging by the love it gets, I think I've found that thing - and it's only $20!

I'm confused... I remember hearing that PSP online thing, and then people were later saying "oh it's just for EU". Did NA follow behind soon after or something?

Not sure. I never heard about it only being for Europe. I just remember hearing the big rumble in September about it being shut down.

I thought the PSP store was only closed for Europe? Or was that worldwide?

My PSP is literally right beside me so...

Still up in NA.

Then why not release it as a vita title?

First purchase of 2015. By the way, it has been a long time since I bought a XSEED game at launch. The last has been Memories of Celceta LE, which I received 4 months after launch.

$20 was pretty much expected. I don't believe anyone would release a PSP game for much more right now.

From the movement and combat this looks like a first person RPG like Legend of Grimrock, only in third person. Would that be a good description? Never really saw the game before but I'm interested.

What was the latest news about an EU release? No information?

My point was not even gamestop (which still has PS2 games on the shelf) sells PSP games anymore. It has nothing to do with the presence of a physical release.

All my local stores have psp sections, but got rid of their ps2 stuff last year. Even the one that just opened last year has a stand with vita stuff on one side, psp on the other.

What's the freaking difference? It's a Digital game that anyone with a Vita can get, they will also release more PSP games in the future, this isn't the last one.

You know that Xseed doesn't make these games, right?

Exactly, what is the difference? It seems backwards and pointless to release it as a PSP title. If the vita runs the code without modification just make it a vita game.

Really? My store has maybe 20 psp titles total all used and a mediumish PS2 section still.

What? That makes no sense, they are also selling it to PSP owners.

So you're saying they should have just changed it so it appeared like a Vita game even if it's EXACTLY the same game that was released on PSP and basically excluding PSP owners from buying/playing it?

It's a PSP title. The VIta has a special mode for running PSP games so calling it a VIta title would be a lie.

It sort of would, actually. As Tom the XSEED guy once put it to me, "it has all the immersion of a first-person dungeon crawler, but with none of the drawbacks. You can see what’s to the side of you and “sense” what’s behind you, but everything is still very much seen from your viewpoint, even though you’re somehow able to see yourself too." So yeah, it's a kind of weird hybrid between the two, in that you can see all around you but only act on what's in front of you.

With the clarification that NA PSP's still working on PSN I retract my statement it seemed completely pointless to release a game on a system that can't even get it.
