Sony make quality products. I don't think anyone would argue that.

What I mean is the difference isn't enough to justify the pricing in most cases so they miss out. They can't (or dont) compete with Samsung, LG etc and then at the top end people get way too into stuff so they miss out there as well.

I remember when Sony was the absolute shit in electronics. Like, nothing else came close and if you wanted the best you bought Sony. I dont think that's the case now and they're struggling because the budget TV you can buy for 1/8 the cost is 'good enough'.

How often do people buy new tv's?

I think our is 5-6 years old now and tbh I've never even considered upgrading it.

I believe the general trend is once a new technology gets in to comfortable price ranges. Usually events like the world cup are a big boost for TVs. For example, around the 2010 world cup a lot of people upgraded to Full HD. Currently 4K (ultra HD) is being introduced more and more. But these TVs are still very pricy. I think the 2018 worldcup could be a great momentum for many people to upgrade to 4K. Unless some how the TV market comes up with another new standard on short notice, but I doubt that.

Two lines for phones could work too. Just have the Z family for high end. And come up with a mid range line that can compete with the mid range smartphones from other brands. But it will have to be a fairly cheap one if they want it to work. According to trend watchers the budget smartphones are much more popular these days anyways. So sole focus on high end would be suicide.

True that.

I think that is the earliest most normal people will buy a new TVs. Of course those with a lot of disposable income will get a new TV every few years. I think there have been three TVs it my living room in London in 26 years, current one has been there since 2008 and there is no reason for my mum to buy one.

I have had mine for 3 years. But it is tiny and I am thinking of upgrading for size.

If I look at my parents, we've had a Samsung 55inch Full HD and 3D (which we never use lol) TV for about four years now iirc. Before that we had a 42 inch Pioneer plasma HD-Ready TV, guess that one has been around for about six years or so. But at this point I don't see my dad switching to 4K any time soon, he's not much of a quality 'nerd' so to say. He rarely watches blu-rays, he doesn't play games anymore. And TV signals in 4K are far from industry standard at this point. So for now I think my parents will be comfortable with their current set-up for at least a few more years.

So Mike Ashley has offered Rangers a £10m loan. If they say yes to this when I really don't understand why they said no to the £20m offer from Sarver who is willing to put more money into the club.

Here's my prediction for the best film nominations: Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Boyhood, Foxcatcher, Whiplash, The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, Inherent Vice, Gone Girl and Interstellar

Now for 4k

lol no

I'd be a little annoyed if Sony's TV division was dissolved since I've had Sony TVs for most of my life and I did really like the Bravia I had, but TVs now are pretty standard imo. I'd be very pissed off if their mobile division went though, since I think that's a space where they can really make some strides if they streamline their product lineup (less releases per year) and sort out their marketing and carrier situation, particularly in the US.

Gonna go for a Z3 in May I think, assuming I'm even on the upgrade plan.

I watched The Grand Budapest Hotel the other day, incredible really. So I decided to watch Mr. Fantastic Fox last night.. Okay Wes Anderson is good, really good. I love how animated his worlds are.

I'm doing a Wes Andersen marathon next week.

You've pushed the boat out with 10 Oscar bait movies there.

Next you're going to tell me that all the actor/actress and support noms will be people from those very same movies!

My previous Sony Bravia lasted me about 6 years, I think. I upgraded to a 2014 Bravia six months ago because I wanted bigger (40" vs. 55") and more resolution (768p vs. full HD). I don't see myself upgrading again before 4K and OLED are what most people buy, which means another 5-6 years. Seems about right.

I bought a Xperia Z3 last week, it's an awesome phone.

I bought it 3 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. Especially Remote-Play is awesome to play a few games while my girlfriend is watching TV.

Z3 bros.

I really like it. Realllllly. But maybe that's because my previous phone is a Samsung s3, either way I'm really happy with it.

Do you guys put yours under water or are you scared like dc89 that it will break.

I put it under water first day. Same with my z2 tablet lol.

It better do what it's advertised to do or I'm going HAM! :p

I saw a trailer for Wild, starring Reese With-her-spoon the other day. It looks awful. The trailer started off with her writing some Ralph Waldo Emerson quote on how she must become one with nature to achieve inner peace into her journal. Then the trailer continues on as a remake of Into the Wild.

Has there been any confirmation on whether these are fake?

Those are meant to be the right mockups anyway. I think we might be getting a new shirt sponsor next season, Standard Chartered had a 2 year renewal in 2013. I haven't bought a shirt since the 2010-12 shirt, but I really dislike it because it reminds me of H&G, Hodgson, the Dalglish season, Carroll, Downing, Suarez-Evra etc etc

Oh I didn't know there are only 8 best picture nominees this year. It was 10 the past couple of years innit?

Any who, except for American Sniper I called all of them. That was hard

Don't understand people buying 4K TVs when the content isn't there.

By the time it is, much better TVs will be out at much better prices.

Yeah I thought there'd be 10 too.

Anyway, I hope Grand Budapest Hotel wins. But I'd be pleased with Boyhood (which I still haven't seen :lol but I know its going to be good) and Birdman too. (Seeing Foxcatcher tomorrow)

Not very often. Never seen the need. My own TV in my place is still relatively new but my parents for example have two Panasonic plasmas at home, one is 7 this year and the other 5. Only thing to gain from changing them really is reduced power consumption, and a reduction in PQ.

So basically, we need a new TV.

Footy GAF pls

It used to be so easy when Panasonic made plasmas. Less so now. What sort of budget and size are we talking?
