Zelda fans - are you really expecting Zelda U this year?

Pretty self explanatory - do you really think Zelda U is coming by this holiday? Why, or why not?

Personally, without having seen any dungeons or towns, I'm skeptical. I totally believe Nintendo is going open world, but I feel like there are too many traditional Zelda elements that Nintendo will not want to neglect and this will result in additional development time.

We don't even have a subtitle yet, or much of anything really.

So what are your thoughts Gaf? Is it a tease, or is Zelda 2015 the real deal?

I assume so, but largely because I just don't know what else they'd release this holiday without it. Maybe a Twilight Princess remaster? A Mario 3D World 2? Who knows.

Absolutely. I don't think they would have said 2015 if they had any doubts about it, especially since they don't have any other big fall games this year.

They're getting that out this year even if they have to get Reggie in there to finish up the coding.

I don't think it's coming out this year

Yes, because Nintendo needs something to prop the U up with.
I thought this too for a while but keep in mind that next year marks the 30 year anniversary of Zelda. Plus this Zelda looks more ambitious than ever and we haven't seen much. Nintendo can have a fall lineup of Xenoblade Chronocles X, Yoshi's Wooly World, Mario Maker, Star Fox, and maybe even something like Animal Crossing.

Yea I'm still expecting it. Was really surprise by Xenoblade getting an April release for Japan. This for some reason feels like the game that might not make it in the US by Christmas.

Yes. May 2013, we hadn't seen anything from Super Mario 3D World. It was released holiday season. Sure this isn't the exact same thing, but I truly believe it will come out this year.

Xenoblade is April in Japan.

Why would their fall lineup in America not also be a fall lineup in Japan

I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up getting delayed and a 3D Mario game came out this holiday season instead.

Absolutely. They will use E3 as the blowout of information because let's face it, Star Fox, Splatoon, and whatever else they have won't sell nearly as much as Zelda will.

I think so...ask again after e3. Depends on how much they show we might/might not see it this year or they might even flat out confirm it's not coming out this year.
But, we haven't heard of any development issues like UC4 or FFXV, and Nintendo finished moving into that new building to speed up development while having other teams lend a hand.
Unless Nintendo pulls something massive out of their hat to replace Zelda as 2015's holiday title, it's going to make it
Although not the same, Smash bros had a similar announcement to release time frame. Mario Kart 8 released 1 year after it was shown off, and 3D World and Donkey Kong had about half a year. Zelda would have about 1 year and a half since it was announced and it's been in development for quite awhile.

You never know with Zelda. It can always be delayed. We don't have a western release for
xenoblade, so they could try to make that and star fox the releases for the holidays. Honestly I feel like predicting what Nintendo will or will not do is shooting in the dark at best.

I don't know why people constantly question release dates (or year in these cases) after multiple confirmations. I've seen this with Zelda U, Xenoblade, Uncharted 4, and Persona 5.

I imagine Nintendo thinks it's going to be 2015. I expect it probably will since they have at least one workhorse studio working on art assets to speed along the process.

It's fucking January. Who knows, but "We haven't seen enough" isn't really a good argument for why it will be delayed.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't a game like Xenoblade X release later in the West? Maybe not in the fall but something like August or possibly even July.

There are many reasons to believe that Zelda will come this year but keep in mind that Nintendo may find many reasons to delay it and have made similar decisions in the past.

I don't understand why people still think Uncharted and Xenoblade won't make it out this year but look at the past few years: many highly anticipated games that looked far along have been delayed. Last year in particular was the "year of delays".

Later, yes.

Fall is different. Fall is when you release things you prepared for Fall.

The way they confirmed it at The Game Awards makes me say yes.

Zelda releasing this Fall will be huge for them, the crunch will be massive but they'll hit a November release

No.

I honestly don't want it this year. Too many on my backlog and persona 5 , Witcher 3 , bloodborne alone is already going to take my time.

It's probably going to come this year though since the wii u has been out for 3 years now

Let's look at what we know:
-Star Fox, Yarn Yoshi, Mario Maker and Zelda U are the only potential announced big 2015 Wii U titles with no release month set. Of those, only Zelda U is arguably the only one Nintendo would count on to be a big hit.
-Zelda U has been in development since at least January 2013
-Zelda U was supposedly considered to have a trailer shown at E3 2013
-The past two original Zelda games-ALBW and Skyward Sword-released within a year and a half of their first presented gameplay.
-Nintendo has a history of not announcing release dates till close to release. The Wii U's past two big holiday titles-Super Mario 3D World and Super Smash Bros for Wii U-didn't get a release date of November announced until the October beforehand.
-Nintendo also has a history of holding out large amounts of information on major titles until the E3 before release.
While it could get delayed, I just don't see it as being likely given the above. Now, if there's no public demo this E3, it might as well be a Spring 2016 title. But it'll almost certainly have one.

EDIT: Was wrong about Skyward Sword. It was first properly shown a year and a half before release, at E3 2010. This will likely be the same deal, shown at E3 2014, released in late 2015.

I don't expect it this year. I think they'll announce Animal Crossing at E3 for a Holiday 2015 release. They'll position that and Mario Maker as their big 2015 Holiday titles, with Star Fox and Xenoblade Chronicles X as their big games for the core.

One of those four games alone wouldn't be a big fall release but having all four of them within a month of each other makes their lineup look pretty solid.

Mind you, I didn't think Zelda would get delayed before the last Direct but seeing as how we pretty much know the lineup until June, I don't see Nintendo dropping every other announced 2015 within the last six months. Many of those games would have no chance to sell at all.

Dunno where people started getting this idea that it'll be delayed.

IF ZELDA U GETS DELAYED OUT OF 2015 I'LL SUCK EVERY DICK HERE.

Mind you, I didn't think Zelda would get delayed before the last Direct

You mean that Direct that very explicitly stated it was going to cover only games released through the Spring?

Idk, they could go with Amiibo game + Star Fox + Animal Crossing + E3 Zelda U blowout
and legs from Xenoblade, Yoshi, Splatoon, Mario Maker.

But it also depends on what their plans are for next gen and how things fit in the grand scheme of things. I mean are they launching a new handheld next year? Maybe then they'd want a new Zelda ready for it in 2017? If that's so then Zelda U needs to be out sooner rather than later, etc.

Eh. We had seen far more of Twilight Princess and it got delayed for new hardware. No reason to think this couldn't happen again especially with the state of Wii U. Nintendo will want to leverage what is surely their most ambitious and expensive software project to date.

Nintendo projected a 2015 release date numerous times, I don't see why I wouldn't be expecting it this year. For people concerned about information we still have plenty of events to cover before the end of the year.
