8.7M sold though as of when?

I said in the post.

It comes from combining CY2013 of 3.0m. With USA + UK + GER + FRA sell through figures from NPD and GFK for CY2014 which is ~5.7m+ at a minimum. (as we're missing dec for Germany and UK which is the biggest month so in actuality the number will be higher than 5.7m for these regions)

So we can say at the very least that sell through as of December 31st 2014 will be at the minimum ~8.7m. But we're missing sell through data for a further 38 markets for the whole of 2014 + December for UK and Germany. (Japan is 50k for example)

Man some folk seem eager to prove the One hasn't sold through 10 million plus. You know that even if its sold through 12 million (which it hasn't) its still well behind the PS4 right?

Its ok guys. The Xbox wont catch up. Sleep soundly.

They didn't launch in Tier 2 countries until September 21st what what do you mean the whole year for 38 countries? It was only 13 markets until September 2014.

Tier 2 launch was spread throughout September. We also don't have updated sales figures for the 38 other countries that the Xbox One has launched in. Only concrete numbers we have are the US (6.2m), France (416k), and Japan (45k).

Based on what, exactly? Besides a statement made on a conference call by Natella (we don't even know what he was using as a source) We have nothing that says says they even hit the 10million shipped yet. While I'm pretty sure they did hit the number I don't think they sold every unit especially since there were reports of extreme overstock. I don't think Microsoft shipments increased, I think they prioritized certain markets over others (like they did at launch). 6.3 Million in America LTD. 1.3 million in UK so 7.6M. Please explain where they other 2.9 million is coming from when UK is their 2nd largest market?

well if you divide 2.9 million by 39 countries that equals ~74000 shipped per country. So the average shipment of 74000 is possible.

Add UK @ ~1.2M since they announce Nov.20 that Xbox One install base passed 1M

No that's cool.... just ignore the actual content in my post....

We're still missing sales data for UK + GER fo December as well as 9 other market for the whole of 2014 and 29 other markets for 4 months.

The minimum it can be with that missing data is 8.7m. It's fairly obvious that sell through will be around 9 million just by adding Germany and UK December sales so that leaves 38 markets unaccounted for. Rest of Europe, Canada, Australia etc...

Happy now....

Isn't that better than the 360's first year + holliday though? Or am I full of shit?

Even MS stopped using that line in their PR, because the positive comparison will come to an end eventually. 360 was supply constrained at launch, while Bone was heavily front loaded.

Because there usually is only that much product in the chanel in the build up to holidays, not in January.

Last time (FY2014 Q2) MS had 900K on the shelves and that was when XB1 launched in only 13 countries, now XB1 is available in 42 countries. 1 million seems pretty possible.

EDIT: Ah OK, you meant US and not WW. Yep, 1m in one country seems almost impossible.

Don't sound so insecure. Not everyone is interested in console wars. Most of us are just making predictions which may be right or wrong.

Yes.

However don't expect that to continue, especially as CY2014 sales for Xbox One have been lower than CY2006 sales for 360. It was only because Xbox One shipped 3.9m at launch, compared to 1.5m 360's that the console has enjoyed the lead over the 360 thus far.

Why don't they just release the numbers

because shareholders only care about how the Xbox division is doing as a whole (as long as it is profitable), not what each product is selling (that's more for console warz). If the Xbox division is losing money, then obviously the shareholders will want answers as to why.

Ah, sort of off topic butl if it manages to break the 60 million lifetime barrier I'd say that's pretty healthy for a console. Wonder how high the PS4 will go, I guess it depends on a combination of how long this gen lasts and how much legs it has.

The only home consoles to break 60m are the PS1, PS2, PS3, NES, Wii, and 360. Breaking 60m would be amazing for the Xbox One.

too much azure/cloud talk

no one give a shit about other divisions.
Expected. Isn't it their best division right now?

Insecure? My post was directed at those who would be insecure. Even if the sold through figure is around the 10-10.5 mill mark, is that bad? It certainly won't harm anyone. So it seems strange that a few posters seem eager to keep the number below 10 when in the bigger picture it means very little at this early stage.

In all likelihood, they've sold through over 10 mill. Australia alone was at well over 100K I believe before the middle of 2014.

I'm one of those who think the sold through number is below 10 million but does that mean I'm insecure? It's just my prediction which may be wrong

They are really close to being 2:1 in just the US. WW they are likely well over that.

That would be good.

But right now I actually don't see it happening for the next 5 years. But that's a long time and things can change. For example, with the 360 we saw Kinect push sales way higher than anyone expected. Same could happen this gen with another life extending accessory or add on.

And why is it absurd to have 1m in the channel/shelves?

It's not absurd. 1+ million consoles sitting in distribution centers in January is perfectly reasonable. Peak period (Nov-Dec) is the one time of year when you don't wish to be caught in short supply. Serviceability is most important. A miscalculation this time of year can be disastrous. Far better to over-supply than under-supply. We finished sending excess stock back to DC several days ago. PS4s and Xbox Ones. The difference is, Sony have announced sold-through numbers, so idle stock is not relevant to our understanding of how many PS4s have been sold. Microsoft, on the other hand, only announce shipping numbers, knowing the average person won't question (or care to know) how much stock is sitting on pallet trucks.

Lowered 360 sales and heavy bundles were not going to bring revenue up.

The thing is, if you combined both informations, this means that XB1 hasn't increased all that much YoY, or it did but the heavy bundling made them bleed money massively.

Happy to see the Surface doing well, very fond of mine. I got it through work but still, really nice piece of hardware and I`d give MS a chance for my next tablet type device.

Xbox division did better than I expected before holidays but I guess we will see the whole picture next quarter like last year (MS overshipped a lot).

They have me by the balls already.

I'm never getting an iPad again, and am also moving away from MBP's because of the Surface. They fit my needs perfectly.
