Well, there's the rub, isn't it? "Good enough" is an entirely subjective thing.

I'm sure it'll be good enough for most of the Souls superfans. Others might be disappointed but will power through because the core combat and art style are strong enough to overcome the technical shortcomings. Yet others will look at it and give it a pass because they didn't buy a PS4 to play games with this level of graphical fidelity.

(I'm working hard outside of this thread right now to get someoneo belonging to the latter category to buy the game anyway or I might not be able to play the game myself for quite some time. :lol)

The thing is that when you pick up the game and play, the graphics will not bother. Maybe if you're the type that specifically looks for aliasing, or objects that have lower res textures you'll find places that you can't overlook, but the mood and atmosphere are so good that it will look impressive regardless of technical details.

The game isn't being made for those types anyway. As Miyazaki has said from day one, he makes games for people who love playing games, and that audience will always be there regardless of technical prowess.

It's a beautiful game regardless.

The outfit for female looks exactly the same as the male one
Yup, this is a Souls game all right
[quote="Muntu, post: 150603842"]That's some epic music for a character creator clip

Love some of the glasses you can wear, like these three

I hope they'll provide us with a monocle

There are a few in there that are genuine, sure. The companion quests where you collect things or eliminate enemies for example are definitely quests and exist as a checklist of sorts. Similarly I think it was ridiculous to tie the specialization quest to a Requisition that needed gathered mats.

If the negatives outweigh the positives, of course it would called out again and again. One interesting side quest among plethora of bad doesn't automatically makes the simple checklist fetch-quest dissapeared.

The character creator seems to be using better looking templates this time. The default stance and the generic initial look in the character creation in Souls games always was pretty bad, and this time, without it being amazing, it's very decent.

Also i think this is the first Souls game i'm playing a male.

Yeah, they've always used FaceGen, so the results aren't going to be groundbreaking. But I'm impressed with how the character creation has improved with each Souls game so far. BB seems to be the best of the bunch, with decent (non abominable) templates and a whole host of cool stuff (that still fit the mood/style of the game) for extra swag points.

Also, believe me when I say you will see some fantastic facial hair options.

I just noticed there's a listing for Blood Echoes on the character creation video. The class they picked starts with 340. This would make you think it's not a currancy but it is what the Bath Messenger accepts as payment. I guess some classes will start off richer than others.

To be extra cruel,Troubled Child and Waste of skin start off in the negatives.

I suspect that, and it is a reason, along with me thinking that the gaunt style of the characters is fitting the aesthetics of the game, i want to play a male this time.

Haha, I see.

Although, I believe you can assign female hair styles to male characters.

Wouldn't be surprised if you could assign male hair styles and beards to female characters ;)

Also good spot on the Blood Echoes "stat", guys.
I imagine it's basically the starting currency. Picking an Origin with a good upbringing means you can purchase things from the start (but perhaps have relatively low STR, etc.). Kind of like choosing the Explorer class in DS2 (they started with a bunch of items).

I caved and watched the video (not the very beginning of it though). And yeah, that's my Blood Souls!

I have to ask though (even though I know you don't take kindly to such questions in here): Are we sure this game is running at 1080p? Lack of AA is one thing, but this game seems to have severe shimmering and pixel crawl even in the foreground. It's usually not this noticeable that close to the camera at 1080p even if the AA is lacking. EVERYTHING seems to shimmer in this game, all the time.

This won't affect whether or not I'm getting the game (have it pre-ordered), but I think it's a valid concern (oh no, I said the word!).

Stupid question I know, but have they made this game any more accessible for the average gamer?

Seems to me like they have. Retaining health by attacking enemies (with a MASSIVE time window in which to do it) is a big thing. And regular enemies seem to go down in one or two strikes. Just like in all previous videos I've seen, the game just looks easier than Souls. At least fighting regular mobs. The boss might be more of a challenge, but I thought the IGN player was pretty rubbish there (probably intentionally, to end the video on a death), so it's hard to tell. And I know this is just the first area of the game, but again, it just looks easier to me.

Then you also have the warping back and forth which takes away the challenge of having to learn how to navigate the world, the blood vials which allow you to carry much more health items than you ever could with Estus, etc.

My experience in alpha was *less accessible* surprisingly. However I think it will be toned back enough to be pretty playable. It's hard to adjust to the no-shield style of play. Cleric Beast was HARD as well.

I expect the final build to be more accessible as far as knowing what to do and how the game works, but still with the steep learning curve of the old games.

Question: Is there any story elements in this game? from what i can recall from previous Souls game there is non, and i seriously think that with this setting it would be greatly beneficial with an good story.

Depends on which department.

It's probably less obtuse when it comes to figuring out which stats does what, it's probably less obtuse when it comes to figuring out where to go (probably).

Is it going to be easier to fight enemies? Probably not.

It's more minimalist (like Ico) rather than overbearing. A lot of the "story" comes in the form of lore present in things like item descriptions, NPC dialogue, and the setting itself. You can give it as much or as little attention as you'd like. There are still a handful of cutscenes, though.

I guess it depends on your opinion. I think the Souls games are laden with story, but it requires personal investment to get deep into it.

I do think that Bloodborne seems to have that style of story approach, but maybe with slightly more exposition and story direction. The first part of Yarnham seems to have plenty of NPCs.

Look at this for an example of DS story investigated by a popular youtuber:

I know one person's word is just one person's word, but I compared the actual latest build of the game with the IGN video @1080p a few hours ago and indeed the video has some frame skipping and the jaggies are way more pronounced. The opening segment (from cutscene on) for example, is much, much cleaner in game, especially in areas with high lighting contrast like the windows on the door.

As an aside, the lighting in the game is nicer as well. The IGN video is a bit washed out in comparison.

The graphics aren't going to be like the Order, but the video really doesn't do it justice. And there hasn't been a downgrade—the graphics have only been improved since alpha, though the alpha being night time may have made the shadows and lighting look prettier.

I love hearing these impressions. Thank you for sharing. Also: Don't stop, keep the experience, wisdom and updates coming!

I'm still looking to any connection to Demon's Souls, after the Umbasa thing.

Am I grasping?

The eye "occlusion" is definitely a thing for this game, like it was for demon's souls. It's not clear if it's just a self-aware callback to the game that seems to be helping to inspire BB, or if it's a reference. In my heart of hearts what I want is that Miyazaki will have made the games set in the same world but with very few connections.

Well color me surprised. You voicing negative sentiment about a PS4 game?!?! Perish the thought!

So much concern must be truly exhausting. You might want to cut back before you give yourself an ulcer.

Nintendo fanboys are really dedicated to their craft lol

What I don't like:

- too much bonfires IMO - there should not be a single bonfire before the Cleric Beast fight.
- sunset time (nighttime was better IMO).

What I like:

- everything else :)

Don't give a shit about AA - Souls games were never about graphics.

This is the real Demon's Souls 2, folks. The hype is real.

Wait, I thought there is only one "Bonfires" before the Cleric Beast and that was the one you activated after ascending the ladder.

I think I saw 2? Anyway from the 2nd bonfire to the boss is like 20 secs run (avoiding enemies). Not challenging :(

Not 100% sure, but I think he looped back to the first bonfire through the dark house (which he had to open a locked door to get through). That's pretty normal for Souls style games, to open up a shortcut right to the boss once you've gone through most of the area. First boss in Demon's Souls was behind a big door right in front of the beginning of the level.

Wow. I just watched it again and you are correct. I'm glad to know that there aren't checkpoints so close together. Knowing that the classic discovery of a shortcut from checkpoint to boss is there is nice as well.
