Is there any information on whether or not the customizable character is silent or not?
I cannot recall any video of him/her talking.

the main char will have a voice but we don't know if it'll also have actual dialogue or if it's just grunts, limited reaction phrases.

Considering there will apparently be multiple famous voice actors, I'd imagine it won't be just grunts.

But we'll see.

I feel bad for the Japanese-only people who will have to sit and listen through the Lyn and Tatsu dialog. Seriously did they hire the most annoying VA's they could find for those two? Do Japanese like those high-pitched squeal voices?

That kind of voice acting is very common. It's fitting, and for that reason I don't find it annoying at all.

I want to fly forever in my mecha *_*

I wonder if the world is going to wrap. It seems as if the continents are in a vast watery sea. So maybe if you keep flying over the ocean due west from the Western shore of the Primordial Wilderness Contintent, you'll end up on the Eastern shore eventually. Vast stretches of blue ocean don't have landmarks so it wouldn't look weird. It would also fit with the sense of "no boundaries" because you'd never hit invisible walls at the end of the ocean.

So they basically showed us every non-story element to the game? Nice.

The next (not yet dated) livestream will cover combat (again). Probably a bit more defintive than the slightly unsure (but amazing) Treehouse presentation at E3. Hoping they'll get a bit more into the class/leveling system then as well.

To be honest, there's only one piece of information left about the game that I'd still like to have clarified, and unfortunately that's something that they won't be handling in the next video.

Specifically, I need to know if
the localized version of the game will still use "HUGE SUCCEEDED" for the battle affinity prompt.
It torments me not to know this one way or the other.

I think that they already fixed that, I kind of remmember that the message is now "PERFECT" in the new vids

More translations from Gessenkou, this time on probes, mining probes in particular:

Elma: The Probes don’t just gather data on the surroundings after you set them up, it’s also possible to modify them for a variety of functions. For example, if you change to a Mining Probe, you increase the amount of resources mined. You can modify them to give you buffs when you’re fighting too. There are a lot of different kinds of modifications.(あと、データプローブは周辺の情報を収集してくれるだけでなく、様々な機能に変更する事 も可能よ。例えば、採掘プローブに変更すれば、資源の採掘量が増えたり。他にも戦闘の時にステータスを強化してくれるものなど様々な物があるわ。)

Lyn: Since effects are different between probes, you have to think about how you’ll set all of them up~(設置する場所によって、効果が違うから、どこにどのデータプローブを配置するか考えちゃ いますね~。)

The map screen switches from Segment to Frontiernet mode during Elma’s explanation, which looks like it visualizes the Frontier Net probe network on the screen for you. The quantities “Total Amount Mined(総採掘量)” and “Total Income(総収益)” are located at the bottom.

The following menu appears upon selecting a probe, with “Mining G1(採掘),” “Research G1(リサーチ),” “Reinforcement[buff] G1(強化),” “Storage(貯蔵),” and “Melee Power Up(格闘力アップ)” type probes selectable on the list(the menu seems to have at least one more entry, which I’d guess is for Ranged Power Up). “Selected Data Probe(設置Dプローブ選択)” is highlighted above the list.

After selecting the Mining Probe G1 option, this menu displays. “Modified Data Probe(Dプローブ変更)” is now highlighted at the top, and the effects of the probe modification are displayed. “Yield Efficiency(産出性能)” rises by 50 to 100%, “Income Efficiency(収益性能)” lowers by 20 to 30%, and “Combat Support Ability(戦闘支援性能)” remains inactive. The description for the modification reads: “Mines for the all-purpose resource Miranium, as well as rare resources. Total Mined Amount depends on both the FN Spot’s Yield Amount and the Mining Probe[probe level, I’m assuming].(汎用資源ミラニウムおよびレアリソースを採掘します。採掘量はFNスポットの産出量と採掘プローブの両方の要因で決まります).” The “(配置コスト)” is 1000, out of the player’s 588605[wtf] “Current Funds(所持金).” “Confirm Change(変更決定)” and “Cancel(キャンセル)” buttons are at the bottom. Below those, Total Mined rises by 250, while Total Income drops by 40.

After selecting the Melee Power Up Probe, this screen is displayed, much like the Mining Probe’s. Yield and Income Efficiency both drop by 40 to 10%, while Combat Support Ability rises all the way to 100%. The description reads “Produces a buff effective across the entire Zone. Melee Power increases in battle.(ゾーン内全域で有効な強化効果が発生します。戦闘時の格闘力がアップします).” This modification costs 7000 moneys, and lowers both Total Mined and Total Income by 100 and 120 respectively.

Don't need to feel sorry for me mate, doesn't bother me an inch. I'm praying we get the japanese voices in the west.

edit: I totally forgot about that mining probe part - that's huge! Sim elements... researching upgrades for your dolls... pushing forward territory... so much potential.

Man this game is so graphically ugly! I remember when the first trailer released I was really impressed, but whew has it gone downhill, and that city environment....oh my goodness.

But I have to say, the more I hear about the game, the more appealing it sounds to me. It's almost a definite purchase.

That's a pretty shoddy memory you have considering the visuals have objectively only gotten better...

They did.
They are trying to convince non Wii-u owners to buy one.

Shoulda went on a media black out
I doubt it. Xenoblade was handled the same way. And there was way more than what was initially showed. And that had a very similar 'here look at the overworld' type trailers and info too. It's silly to think we've been shown everything already. I can even see space travel a part of this. We saw a bit of cgi with a mech in space and on another trailer also had a scene that seemed from outer space and with like a giant monster. There could potentially be more there, maybe even more than just planet mira. And also, even with this map alone, there's a lot of black spots, that might signify that they have not been found yet

That's normal for anime. Trust me. And I found it kind of adorable. I thought they fit the characters perfectly. As you might have assumed I have watched lots of anime and love them

Even if they did indeed show the entire map.

My only disappointment comes from the fact that we probably won't have another
Mechonis Field
.

Other than that, I'm fine.

I'll actually trade more fields for good dungeons.

I'm sure there's more. This game is 5 times bigger than xenoblade

Gone downhill? Are you implying that the game has been downgraded since the first trailer?

I guess the other thread stays dead until something actually happens, but I made this.

Hope ya'll enjoy it http://youtu.be/mFhqK_CYRdM

Love it!

Has it? I thought that maybe my standards have just gone up in the couple of years wit hthe new systems and all, but if I watch this original trailer and the new footage in this Direct, the original trailer looks way better. But it could just be the compression in the old one hiding details, the environments/lighting types being shown, and the original video not showing that hideous looking city.

Yeah that one is kind of compressed

This is the official one from Nintendo's youtube which is also compressed but not as much.

I'm still struggling to see the downgrade though

You probably just really didn't like the city.

Its really only gotten better since then. The original trailer has a perfectly straight shoreline.

How did the last entry on Wii sell in Japan? Any chance this will shift a lot of Wii U's? Love this machine so much and want something to ignite sales.

It sold under 190k in Japan, was heavily pirated across the world for a while until the United States finally got it. Sold about 400k in North America last I saw.

I think 193,848 was the last number we got in 2013 from the Media Create Top 1000.

Hope the game does well worldwide but we'll see. Perhaps it'll be like Tales of Symphonia and do unexpectedly well in the west because the GCN was so RPG-starved.

I hope this does well or at least relatively well, i'm kind of expecting it to sell better overseas than in Japan.

Yeah, it's just awful. I don't understand the pressing need Japanese cartoons and games have for including at least one character who speaks/squeals in an ear drum shattering register. Just horrendous.

This game's world looks SO amazing and the exploration with mechas will be GLORIOUS. I hope story and characters are good too, personally I loved them in the first Xenoblade.

Edit: like always, I'm late to the party XD.

Here's some translations by the one and only Cheesemeister:

One correction/addition: quick travel is NOT restricted to areas with Data Probes. You can travel to ANY landmark on the grid map (if you look at the part of the video where they explain it around 16:30, you can clearly see the player is selecting non-Data Probe areas).

This is probably wise considering every panel on that grid is probably a pretty big area already.

Just got around to watching the replay...all the music samples were pretty bad. :\

Most of that stuff was vocal tracks, didn't they say that this game has over 90 music tracks with there only being 4 vocal tracks total? They might have played all 4 vocal tracks during the preview video.

Also, please be sure to download the preview video directly, there is no stuttering at all in this game, a locked 30fps is what it seems to be, which is great.

it sold 400k in the states while being a gamestop exclusive with very little advertising and with like 1 million pirates. thats kinda amazing that it achieved that much, it had everything going against it
