Congratulations on buying crap, everyone.

(Except for Far Cry 4. You're cool, Far Cry 4.)

Imo AC Rogue is a great game, i hope they make a game with its ship mechanics. Definitely the best AC last year.

Wow. FC4 number is huge, but I hope they will reinvent it for next time. Less collectible bullshit and checklist design please.

Nice to see Crew not being a complete disaster, it deserves success for that ambition, even if execution is not perfect.

Am I wrong in thinking that Watch_Dog numbers are weak.. didn't it launch close to 8 million so it only sold about 2 million for the reminding 6 months of the year?

It sold 4 mllion copies in the first week, around 9 million shipped by the end of October last year.

Comics, serious business!
It is kinda funny how we sit on here all day complaining about shit games like Destiny, Watch Dogs, Unity, etc., while the rest of the gaming world devours them and the devs that make them roll around in obscene amounts of money, hookers, and blow.

Excited to see where they take Watch Dogs. It had problems but it has a lot of potential.

I agree there is a very good foundation there to build on for the sequel. Most of the issues are story and characters for me. Most of the game play was very solid and with some refinement can be very good. Hopefully they get much better writing staff for the next game.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
-Assassin’s Creed Unity won the prize for best “Character Animation in a Video
Game” at the Annie Awards.

Glad that those animators won at least one award.

I remember a couple months ago someone was saying that the AC series was dead because Unity and Rogue "sold so poorly." That vocal minority. If anything this should give the team at Quebec motivation for their fall release.

Where is the the income statement/ balance sheet/ cash flow etc?

I see operating income in the outlook but nothing about the quarter results.

From the conference call:

"The performance of AC Unity has improved significantly according to an IGN journalist who played the game recently." Then Guillemot had another quote from him saying it was his favorite game of 2014.

late 2014."

I love that part because it doesn't mean anything. Late 2014 could just mean December.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Assassin's Creed Unity must thank the special Xbox One bundles, otherwise it would've been muuuuch lower.

Those number with the amount of PR backlash they got...

Is that proof people still buy the games despite the vocal hate online?

I have no problem admitting I enjoyed Unity. Near the end, I started getting bothered by some of the flaws but it was still a better experience than Assassin's Creed III to me. And a better assassin game than AC IV.

It's good to see, that the next gen platforms already take over half of the sales. The sooner they ditch the old systems the better.

GAF is nowhere at all near representative of the general consumer. Look how masssive the Persona 5 thread is. That game will never come anywhere remotely near the sales of "terrible" games like Destiny, Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed, etc.

And there is nothing wrong with that, but its something to remember while browsing GAF. Its tastes aren't reflective in general on industry performance at all.

While I agree, the Assassin's Creed hate was certainly not limited to NeoGAF. Every single site was on it and even the news did reports about it here.

I really hope that they don't take this as a license to put out more broken games and to have even more shitty dlc.... they probably will though.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Wow fantastic results for Ubisoft.

The Euro currency being so low must also help inflate the results.

This is why you get on the next gen hype early, and why they were willing to get out broken games so fast. There is no way Watch Dogs would have pulled those numbers this year.

The Crew is fun with friends, and it offers an open world arcade racing experience to everyone who can't play Forza Horizon. I think that is very appealing, whereas Driveclub comes off as a sim.

So Assassin's Creed is still on the down and out.

If I were Yves, I would:

- Fire the head of the Toronto-Montreal Studios instead of just making him a scapegoat.

- Apologize for Unity myself to maintain credibility (and take notes from Shu and the failed Drivelcub launch)

- Pin all of my hopes on Farcry 5 and Watchdogs 2, but for the Watchdogs sequel I would do everything in my power to prevent a decline in the franchise since its lukewarm reception.

This might actually help me realize my dream of competing on the same level as the big boys, EA and Activision.

PS4 %= 34%
XB1 =23% (and it was heavily bundled with 2 Ubisoft games)

That's really impressive for PS4. I don't know what's best for Ubisoft for their next AC. Partnership with PS or XB1?
What do you think, Gaf? :p

People outcried after Rayman went multiplat, saying how terrible Ubi was.
People outcried after Watch Dogs, saying Ubi were all liars.
People outcried over Unity, saying Ubi didn't know how to make a game.
People outcried over massive DLC transfer issues with Rocksmith, saying Ubi didn't know what they were doing.
People outcried over The Crew, saying it was too microtransactiony.

Yet all these games have sold moderately to very well. I don't think people are going to stop buying in.

We will see this exact same thing with [at least] The Division. And I'd say there's a shot we see some backlash aimed at Rainbow Six as well.

It is sad. Mostly because last year Ubisoft made everything on their power to be the worst videogame publisher in the world. And still they made tons of money by releasing broken games.

The worse is that now even more publishers are releasing broken games, first EA, now Ubisoft, MS, Sony, 2K, etc etc, the only exception seems to be Nintendo but I don't even play most of their games now.

So Assassin's Creed is still on the down and out.
It went down by 1 million units in a transitioning year with split skus and poor quality.

That's got to make it one of the most resilient franchises in gaming.

Edit:

It didn't even go down for the same time period.

I can give you Unity but which others Ubisoft games where broken?

Conference call: http://edge.media-server.com/m/p/vadwgqwd

PS4\XB1 install base estimated at 28M at the end of 2014. Ubisoft expects the userbase to double by the end of 2015.

Interesting. So total sales have a floor estimate of 28 million and and a max estimate of 29.99million.

Nice that current gen is already over 50% of UBI's sales. Wonder what the tipping point is to drop last gen. Also aren't like at least 2 million of those AC Unity sales from Xone bundles. Wonder what shipments would look like without the bundle seeing as sales dropped even with it.

We should really consider the fact that the game had a special Xbox One bundle, with a low price for the Holiday season, though. That played a major role in the overall sales of the game.

Their next AC game is set in Victorian London, Sony is releasing not one but two different games set in that setting, the obvious thing to do would be to partner with Sony, (like they usually do, no idea why they went with MS this year), and market the game with Bloodborne and Order 1886 special outfits for the main character.

I can already see the snarky animus descriptions.

Didn't they originally set the expectation for Unity to sell around what AC1 did in it's first ~year?

I find it quite interesting that the NA market share dropped even though the AC bundle had ridiculous offers that were mostly US only.

Hmm I bought far cry 4 watch dogs and acu and I enjoyed all of em. I don't care what neogaf says they're all good games. The only one of regret is acu but only cause it was free with my xbone so now I have two copies.
I do hope that they continue to improve their franchises though b

It's clear what it means. "We easily beat Forza and Driveclub but got our asses kicked by Mario Kart."

Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer, said "In 2014, Ubisoft offered gamers the most diversified line-up in the industry, with titles such as Assassin’s Creed Unity, Child of Light, Far Cry 4, Just Dance 2015, The Crew, Trials Fusion and Frontier, Valiant Hearts and Watch Dogs

yup, and it seems to be working for them.

If the franchise wasn't shrinking its fan base already, it wouldn't have lost a million sales on the next gen leap alone. They had every platform covered with the exception of WiiU.

My take is that poor quality releases mixed with unending plot fatigue, similar to what you see with once-popular TV shows losing viewers, is whats causing the most hurt. It can't help that they've sullied their reputation a little as well.
