How so cheap ?

Anyway, I worry about games like this, no matter how good the single player is, it needs a coop or some type of social element for people to keep playing and investing time.

Otherwise danger is many play and then trade it, stacking the shelves of Game and CEX (UK), which is a shame ( I always buy new as I don't like lining resellers pockets. )

Not every game needs multi or coop, but it keeps the game off the second hand shelves.

To be fair, the YouTube person uploaded all of the video, so that is more credible than the words of some people. It seems that if you go after all of the collectibles, you will get a lot more time out of it, but if you just play it normally, you will get around 5 hours.

Considering that the game is said to be cutscene heavy, I hope that isn't the case.

Either way I'm getting my copy on Saturday or Sunday.

it wasnt a speed run, a few of us checked it out (in the spoiler thread)

Ill take your word for it then, no way im watching any videos! Anything over 10 hours and ill be happy with the game length. I know the way I play these games i'll be more likely to come in over that, so I guess more methodical play styles will get more immersion and 'bang for your buck' out of the game. Lets just hope the overall experience is also good for those less patient players who are a bit more gung ho'.

Regarding the "unskippable cinematics" argument, I think that it's like the movie Unbrakable when the dad goes to the S. Jackson store looking for a nice draw for his kid, Jackson gets pissed and kick out the guy.

I do agree that the game should have skippable cinematics when you play the game for a second time but it's not a big issue for me.

I haven't watched his videos because I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but are you sure it was his 1st playthrough? Did he go to every nook and cranny to find a pathway or did he move straight forward as if he played this game before?

Holy batman at this thread (and other threads)!

I was gonna pre order it but decided to wait for some "real" reviews. It's already hard enough to trust anyone on this thread. I got burnt few times by spending $60 for a game that's either short or big disappointment. I'm not going to do that again.

playing on hard and gazing at the vistas/graphics like I do in every game will def. increase play time for me

Got my copy pre-ordered for only £42 thanks to a gaffer post in another thread. This is the most excited I've been for a game since Uncharted 2. My wife and kids are sick of me going on about it but I don't care as soon as I'm playing I will be all ooh look at this and check this out lol. p.s I love single player games and I know this is going to sound a wee bit sad but I completed Drakes Fortune about sixty times.

Was clearly his first playthrough. In fact, he blatantly ignored obvious on-screen prompts and audio cues and wandered around like a blind man in a number of sections before stumbling across the obvious white dot indicator he should have spotted 15-20 seconds earlier.

The tame difficulty setting was the primary reason he rocketed through the game in no time flat. I'm eager to hear impressions from folks who've had first-hand experience with multiple difficulty levels that can speak directly to things like AI enhancements at the higher setting.

There are so many different types of games, we get such a variety over the year in the game industry. Why is it so weird to have a cinematic game that is focused and linear? Every game does not need to be open world or have multiplayer. The Order is what it is and to a bunch of people that's fine, if it isn't for you then don't get it. Going around calling things a movie or whatever literally does nothing to further the discussion, if you enjoy your long open world games then go ahead and sink most of your money in those. No one is here trying to get those who are not interested in these types of games to buy it. But those of us who are excited and like these types of games, let us enjoy it. If what you have seen so far isn't to your liking then buying the full game will not change your opinion, if you're on the fence, then you should wait for reviews or more impressions to get a better gauge. This isn't directed at anyone, but just a general thought on this past week in all these threads.

I can't tell for sure, but they did wander around a bit at times, so my guess is that it was their first time. Also, they unlocked trophies while playing, so that would suggest it was their first time. They didn't seem to be looking for hidden stuff or anything, they just went straight for the main objective. I wouldn't call it a speed run or anything though.

Yeah, the eye candy and gameplay moments like in those gifs will give me reason enough to go back to it. I have seen more than enough to know that I will dig it for what it is, regardless of the length.

I too wish to enjoy the immaculately rendered spectacle of me zapping some bowler-hatted dude's head clean off.

The hell am I reading?

Is this the same board the routinely lambasted games the likes of COD with 5 hour campaigns last generation?

Or is there a special "factor" influencing why suddenly, the Order gets a pass?
Try again, bud. I've never even purchased a CoD game, why would I bash a franchise I've never even had extensive experience with? I think you'll find I've never lambasted any game of 5 hours. In fact, I've always been an advocate of short and sweet games. Some of my most replayed titles are short games, for that very reason. My favorite GTA is San Andreas, but that was the last time I could devote 40 to 50 hours to that monstrosity of a single player campaign. Good try though.

There's a lot of different opinions on GAF. This board has had a huge upsurge in members since then, and honestly it's starting to show in the quality of discussions in the 'popular' subjects.

While that was an embarrassment of a post (possibly tag worthy) you quoted, get over people having different tastes. Some people don't like COD, some don't like games like The Order, and there are people on the flip-side who do enjoy those games. If you see someone who had railed against a point on one game in the past and you see that same person passing over it in another, call them out. But GAF isn't a hive mind, despite the tendency of members to jump on the wagon like in any other community.
Mind enlightening me on what's so "embarrassing" about my post then? I stand 100% behind my rationale on the matter. I can pay a full $60 bucks for other media and get the same length of content I would for a fully priced "short" game.
I played Dragon Age Inquisition with a full time job, while at the same time having to work on my thesis for University and without neglecting my social life.
And I had a blast. Sure, it took me alost 3 months to finish, but I don't see anything wrong with that. Those $60 were tottaly worth it.

A friend of mine has a full time job as a doctor, is happily married and has a 1 years old kid. He is playing DA:I, it's probably going to take him several months to finish but he is having a blast.

There is nothing wrong with short games. I just get them for $30 or less
That's all well and good. I never said it was impossible to play these lengthy games on this kind of schedule. But like you yourself stated, it took you months to beat the game. It's fine if you can prolong your attention to a game for a span of months, but I like to play a game all the way through in preferably a week or less and move on with my life. If it's a month or more down the line since I've last played a game (especially a lore/story based one) I'll find it extremely difficult to elevate my interest and enthusiasm to pick up the game again. Honestly, TLoU felt like a chore sometimes because I just wanted to beat the game and see what happened in the story already. Of course this was at the 15/16 hour mark.

The Order strikes me as one of those mainstream games that will be extremely flashy, but also extremely shallow.

If you are looking forward to this kind of thing, more power to you there is nothing wrong with that. Just always seen it as mediocre. I can't imagine it on the GOTY list or really discussed outside of this week.

Sounds like there is a problem if negative comments about a game impact a person's ability to enjoy said game.

Ah I see. I'm genuinely curious to see how this will turn out :)

The review thread is going to be a war zone.

That's because we all know Metal Gear Solid V will be GOTY.

I say this without bias.

10 to 15 years ago action and action adventure games were priced
about 50$ with 3 to 5 hours of lenght. Where were all of you (the people so worried about lenght)? Isn't Shadow of the Colossus considered a masterpierce? Resident Evil 1, 2, 3? Ico? Tomb Raider? Silent Hill?

Regarding the "unskippable cinematics" argument,
That's really my biggest concern. I forgive it in older games where they didn't know better, but I can't believe a 2015 game would have something like that. Boggles my mind. I hope checkpoint placement isn't stupid, at least...

Not saying this game will be anything like TLOU, but many people said the same thing before and even when that game got released.

I played through Drakes Fortune 6 times. Loved the trophy patch. Best Uncharted.

I wonder if the mods will have any sort of contingent plan going forward for review threads. Because this one looks like it'll be pretty damn bad.
