New Dragon's Dogma Online trailer

DOWN

That's visually underwhelming, especially with Deep Down in the Capcom portfolio. Hope it is an addicting appetizer for a full sequel.

I really dislike the textures, makes it look like a PS3 game in some aspects. That being said, however, day 1 if I can get my hands on a Dragons Dogma game with a decent framerate.

OMG just noticed something!

So the Japanese lipsynching looks really bad, right?

But notice at the end when the guy says "Ikuzo!" He's actually mouthing only 2 syllables, almost like he's saying "Let's go!"

Lead language for cutscene indicates the game is being developed in English? NA release confirmed?

While I'm sure you're joking with the tone in your post (please be), to me it still looks like he is mouthing Ikuzo, it's just not synched perfectly.

cool remix/arrangement of the arisen's theme (when winning a fight vs. a giant monster) and the dark arisen theme

besides that: the movement of the characters looks... suspect

i dunno, maybe it's because it's from a different angle but it doesn't look as smooth/fast as it was before

Ergh. Those graphics. :|

You know, I'm currently playing the first one (and madly in love with it), and I was thinking to myself a few days ago that I wouldn't mind if the next game did just a minor improvement on graphics (resolution, framerate and textures) as long as it offered WAY more content, enemy variety, quest complexity, loot, etc. So I think the graphics for this one are just about good enough. Hopefully they'll get better, but I won't lose sleep over it if they don't.

I'm the same way, I'll look past the graphics if we get a shit ton of content. It being a F2P mmo however does not have my faith but it being DD has all my hype. I'm so confused but I'll stay wary and hopefully Capcom has a good pricing plan for their "micro"transactions.

I've never played a (completely) F2P MMO so I wouldn't know how it works.

After coming from The Order review thread, it's a breath of fresh air for people to be complaining about bad graphics again.

I don't care about the graphics... What I care about is FLYING INTO FREE.

I just want to play the game.

This is a reach if I ever saw one

but yes it's fairly certain it'll come westward

Is it? I can't imagine finding people complaining to ever be a breath of fresh air. Plus I don't dislike these graphics so I'm not sure what these people are talking about. Vaguely reminds me of Record of the Lodoss War.

I'm also a F2P MMO virgin so I don't really know what to expect. I mean, I know "F2P" is a dirty word because usually the games are designed so that you actually have to spend money in micro-transactions to be able to bypass the grind or to get the rarest stuff, etc. I'm not really much of a "completionist" (I usually play through games once, unless I get hooked on the gameplay) so I don't see myself paying for loot, levels, etc.

Hopefully the game is good enough so that I can scratch my current-gen DD itch + jump online with my friends and get lost in some dungeons.

My biggest concern is what movesets and abilities will be in this incarnation. Combat shown thus far looks a lot more turgid and stiff, with not many abilities being shown for melee users or magic users.

The best part of Dragon's Dogma is the transformation from ambitious but weak explorer to a one many army capable of slaying anything in your path. Along with building up a pawn that can do the same.

Just don't like the lack of mobility or chaos.

Was this made by the Monster Hunter Team? Might explain the stiffness.

My not-so-well-delivered point is that The Order is reviewing horribly despite looking visually stunning. So, for me to come in and see an awesome trailer giving Dragon's Dogma fans more of what they love, and then read people complaining about how bad the graphics look.. Those complaints strike a bit hollow, even if I were to grant they were true.

Which is not to say that a game looking visually bad is meaningless, I personally just find it to be some of the most shallow commentary one can provide. Even where it brings its merit, The Order helps to show how little it can carry an otherwise mediocre game.

F2p mmo virgin what does that even mean? An mmo is an mmo being f2p doesn't really change it from being an mmo.

Well... the embarrassing truth is that I'm actually an MMO virgin. I've never played WoW or Everquest or any of those. They turn me off, I don't think I like the idea of being part of guild and going on raids with 200 randoms. I just didn't want to admit to that for fear of getting my geek card revoked.

Is there more details on how the paying part is going to work here?

Because I'm not sure what to expect either. Is it possible for a regular player to "complete" the main story without paying anything? Can you switch jobs without cost? Will the community be heavily fragmented among those that pay for extra features and those that do not?

Kind of wish they had gone the Guild Wars route (full title purchase, with micro-transactions set as optional), because at least there would be certainty that there is a proper full game accessable from day 1. Either way, the animations look stiff at times.

I can tell you now how the free to play aspect will probably work.

Pay for Rift Crystals to:
- hire pawns (or equivalent) of a higher level than yourself
- unlock Rift Stones to recover your pawn, hire new ones
- Purchase cosmetic upgrades
- Lift "curses" from loot drops.

The framework for free to play has been there from the beginning and was expanded in Dark Arisen.

Having said all that, i'm disappointed at how dated this game looks... Worse than the original in some areas in my opinion. If it plays at least as well as the original though I'll be mostly happy

Can't wait for this to come out. Dragon's Dogma was one of my most favourite games of last generation, despite not finishing it. Guess I can go back and finish that while waiting for this to come out. I've still got the Everfall and Dark Arisen content to look forward to, so plenty of DD content to tide me over.

Not really seeing a massive leap in visual quality from the PS3 version of DD but nevertheless it's a very welcome addition to current gen. Not bringing this to the west would be a massive mistake from Capcom IMO. I just hope their FTP model isn't too "pay to win/advance"

I just need to finish off Dark Arisen first. I seems to have been playing the Everfall for months.

Just some stuff from the developer team interview in Dengeki PlayStation:

- no voice chat

- you can swap vocations at any time

- All the gear and equipment in DD/DA are present in the game, along with a lot more new stuff - more than 1,000 pieces in total; you can also craft new gear with materials

- players can log in and switch between multiple servers
- players can create multiple characters in a single account
- on PC specs; obviously players with high-spec PCs will be able to enjoy better graphics, but basically if you’re running a decent 3-year-old PC that met the recommended requirements of most games then you’d likely be all right
- the game design is catered towards long-term continual play; there are levelling dungeons and areas, item-based hunts/quests, as well as random/limited quests/events that pop up when viewing notices in the lobby
- can form parties with pawns or other players; like in DD/DA, the pawns are AI-controlled, but you can easily ask another player to join in
- there will be three expansions to the game
- DDON is not linked with DD/DA storyline
- while the Dragon was an antagonist in DD, it is not so in DDON as the players will take up the role of Arisen who are protecting the White Dragon
- yes you still get a main pawn
- the pawn-Arisen relationship is still in the game; you can dress up your pawn, equip your pawn with poor armour/decent weapon etc.
- Fighter = short-range attacker, Hunter = long-range attacker, Priest = healing and recovery, Shield Sage = tank
- in-game party of a maximum of four members; you can play with pawns or other Arisen (mix and match pawn-Arisen combination as you like), or even play solo
- you can still rent out and hire pawns, this feature is still retained from DD
- character generator is also like DD/DA’s customisation system, but with more additions; make handsome guys, cute girls, whatever you fancy
- pawns can also craft gear; think of hiring and renting out pawns that specialise in crafting
- armour system is maintained (the clothing and armour layers) with the added fun of customisation!!!!
- the skill system from DD/DA is retained; need to purchase new skills with discipline points
- no, there is no Ur-Dragon-like boss
- but there are raids with eight players!
- more vocations to be added in the future; rather than base and hybrid vocations, let’s just say that there’s a wider range of vocations compared to previously
- you can even get the NPC armour like Iris’ and Leo’s
- emotes and clans will be introduced
- the team is confident that if you’ve enjoyed DD/DA then you will enjoy DDON

Looks super rough and last-gen.

All encounters are tailored to PS3. Enemy designs, environment and count have to be the same across platforms so that PS3 256Mbx2 is the line that cannot be crossed. Of course PC will have better looking stuff, just nothing that's not in the PS3 version like weather and number of enemies on screen all limited to PS3 to keep the experience the same across platforms.

For example it is unlikely you will see an encounter with 2 wiverns 2 drakes and death + mobs in the PC version but not in the PS3 version even though a regular 2015 PC is perfectly capable to handle it at medium settings. Which is a shame.

YESSSS I want this so bad !

digging it. love the animation. many reskins in that trailer. keep the combat intact and you can do almost anything.

Pretty much ! it's basically Dragon's Dogma combat with your mates and a good framerate, I can't believe how eager those simple things make me :D

Game looks like so much fun, I really hope this comes to the west.

The fact that it is F2P makes me worried though, F2P games never seem to get localized.

Yeah....how is a game coming out now that looks like this?

PS3 is lead console for this, so naturally everything has to work on the PS3. PS4 and PC will likely only get like, better post processing effects, lighting, shadows and AA. I doubt that it will make the game look like a next gen release.

Graphics look like DD 1 and that is good enough for me I care more that they aim for solid frame rate this time. The link Cadet posted makes me hopeful they are handling the title right.
