Completed it a second time. Think I'm only missing one trophy now. Really enjoyed it once again, though playing it a few days back I was quite tired and the lull period just before the mid way point of the game did bore me a bit, unlike my first run, though the second half picks up the pace well. Still love the gunplay. Experimented a lot more this time with weapons, black sight etc. Even against the Lycans, this time running around instead of backing in to a corner. Pretty easy as you just dodge, then Falcion stun them before they get away, and stick them full of lead whilst they're stunned.

I actually like the story and don't mind the way it ended I've decided, and whilst it's inexcusable to re use certain mechanics (both Lycan bosses and encounters), the last fight was fairly done well, with great atmosphere, and that bad ass blade off. Instead of QTE's they should have just gone full beat em up, with different moves, combos, blocks, counters etc, minus the button prompts.

The sound score, acting and general dialogue don't get enough credit imo. People who say the writing is lacking because of the narrative disagreements, are not giving enough consideration to the writing of the character dialogue, which is actually very well done, full of witt, class, gallantry and perfectly keeping in with the time period and chivalrous tone. Not once do any of the characters feel out of place in their use of pseudo old age English language, irrespective of their class or creed.

The game is no doubt flawed, but there's a lot of positives here, and a huge amount of potential for what will hopefully be a sequel. If you're a fan of cinematic TPS, don't mind a much slower pace, nor linearity, I would recommend it. If not at full price then a lower price or a rental. I'm keeping my copy as I can see myself playing it again in future, and it's an audiovisual powerhouse, great to show off ones console and set up.

I keep hoping to find a good deal on this game as I am eager to play it but not at $60. Hopefully there will be a $40 deal some time in the near future.

edit: its dropping fast on amazon as used. Maybe give it a few more days lol

Europe seems to be doing OK. It appears to be a huge bomb in the US (not even in the top 100 at Amazon after a week, which is just dreadful).
Huh? It's been the top selling PS4 game on Amazon since release.

I do imagine this game will be very frontloaded, it seemed to have strong preorder numbers, and the used market will hit this game much harder than most.

It took around 10 weeks or so for Uncharted 1 to sell a million. Hopefully...........HOPEFULLY this is tracking a bit above that and Sony considers it an investment in awesome tech and premise and greenlights the second one.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony was planning on greenlighting a sequel as long as sales weren't abysmal. Budget for the next game will almost definitely be substantially smaller due to so much engine and asset work being done already. I could also see a First Light-sized downloadable companion game happening at some point.

May the Lord hear your prayers. Not because I don't want to eat crow (I predicted 2 mill + sales), but because I would love to see how much they improve everything without having to work much on the engine. Also, it would be nice to see how serious they take consumer feedback.

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #105 in Video Games (See Top 100 in Video Games)
#18 in Video Games > PlayStation 4 > Games

That doesn't look like a top selling game on Amazon to me.

Not sure what that list is. But here's Amazon's current PS4 Best Sellers Game list:

It has tremendous potential with all the systems they even have currently in place. Instead of the QTE Lycan fights they could have done something where you shoot him to injure him and when weakened Air Blast him into the environment damaging him and stuff around him. I mean the work they did on the weapons is ripe for all kind of gameplay possibilities.

I feel like an idiot. I completed it on 'Hard' and didn't once use Blacksight throughout my time with the game. I don't really remember being introduced to it.

Not your fault its very briefly touched upon. A lot of people didn't remember to use it.
I actually did some pretty epic stuff with it. Nothing more bad ass then throwing a grenade shooting 2 guys then shooting the grenade to blow up midair killing the rest.

Yup.

Awesome GIF.

I must say, I definitely had some pretty awesome moments that I wish I had kept my videos of. I had a great one where I used the Remote Mine rifle to detonate a mine right in-between three enemies, and each of their arms closest to the mine disintegrated and exploded as they flew off in different directions, followed by me popping off my blacksight, taking out 3 enemies, before then blowing up a red barrel which gloriously took out and vaporised another enemy or two. It was absolutely epic. But I was clearing hard drive space and accidentally deleted the video :(

Side note, woo, got my platinum! Last phonographic cylinder was really easy to get.

Sometimes when you're walking about, this game looks photo-realistic. Its amazing. Then when you stop and stare for a moment, you start to see the imperfections and remember its a game. But man, when those moments happen, they are incredible.

I'm about 3 hours in and its okay. I like the characters, but the game moves kinda slow. I have to remind myself its like a movie and not as much like Gears of War or something. I think this game definitely got a bad rap in the press circle, but I can understand how its not for everyone. I almost didn't play it again after my first hour. I had just bought Zombie Army Trilogy and was having a ton of fun with it and decided I might just send The Order back to Gamefly without playing any more of it. Then last night I forced myself to play more and I'm glad I did. Those couple of extra hours were what I needed to appreciate the game and start to understand the vision that the studio had for it.

I look forward to finishing this one soon.

Yeah... I always imagined Lycans moving and jumping from one place to another in a very menacing/aggressive way while we're trying to shoot it. With sudden rushes that, if they reach you, you will be dead with one hit.

And I agree. Their work on weapons overall was superb.

There are no numbers people need to stop using amazon like this for software.

Maybe people can use whatever numbers they do have (Amazon for example), and if you don't like it, you can ignore those posts. No one is stating categorically that just because it appears to be bombing at Amazon, that it's bombing at every US retailer.

He was mostly saying that due to what the dude he replied to said, which doesn't seem to take into account that it might not be doing "As bad" at every US retailer, or EU for that matter.

Ouch. That numbers are terrible.
I was confident about the sequel, but now I'm really worried...

The guy is free to be worried if he feels like it. Again, by all accounts it appears to be doing well in Europe, so the chances for a sequel are probably pretty good.

Here's Gamestop's top PS4 games list using "Best Seller" as the means to rank them. The results are very similar to Amazon's list.

STORY: so much potential, no little of it untapped. It feels like the whole game is only a prologue to a sequel, and that you get to see nothing but exposition and presentation. Like the first third of a movie. Characters in general are fleshed out enough that you care for most of them, but not so much that you'd be sad if any of them kicked the bucket.
I would've been actually happy if Issi kicked the bucket. She clearly had a romantic thing with Gallahad before, yet it only takes one sighting with an Indian woman and a few words from a CEO to turn her 100% against Gallahad in a fit of blind rage.

Addressing the part you have spoiler tagged...

To be fair, though,
the "CEO" you reference is also her father. They could've done a better job fleshing out her character's motivations, but it's not totally unbelievable that she'd side with her father, her brother, and her order over Gallahad...especially since Gallahad was beginning to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Percival, who had been treading on thin ice with the Order...they even disgraced him during his memorial service.

I am saying it is silly.

We have digital and bundles and such software sales are not clear cut.

Spot on. Despite a handful of clichés, the character dialogue is as good as I've heard in a game. That in combination with the phenomenal voice acting and cutscene direction gives the story an air of cinematic craftsmanship that few other games come close to replicating.

I get the feeling it's probably done pretty poorly. Probably a lot of pre-order cancellations after the reviews as well.

I've never understood something like that personally. If you're set on seeing a film, that circles around themes you find interesting, would you just skip on it due to bad reviews without checking it out for yourself? I definitely would not put such emphasis on the tastes of others, and let something I might enjoy pass by. More often than not, I've found that movie/game critics' views aren't synonymous to mine. Session 9 and Driveclub are good examples of critically shunned titles from both entertainment mediums that I loved, and I'm glad I decided to see how they're myself.

Why do you keep referring to Driveclub like that?

Just finished this last night. I really can't even comprehend how this game has been receiving 5/10 reviews. This is not a 5/10 game.

Here's my thoughts-

Pros:
Graphics are the best ever

Gunplay is fun and weighty

Writing and dialogue are excellent

Weapon variety is great

Presentation is top notch

Sound design is amazing

QTE's are fun and more interactive than expected

Plot leaves you NEEDING a sequel

Con's:
Melee combat is clumsy & feels way too QTE-ish

The lycan encounters were generic and shitty. I can't believe they all took place in the same environments with the same lame gameplay mechanic.

The stealth level seemed forced and unnecessary. Probably my least favorite level of the game.

The length is a bit short considering it's $60 and there's no MP. Took me about 8 hours.

Other thoughts:
I appreciated that The Order ignored the supposedly "required" gaming norm of upgradeable, modifiable weapons. Not including that option made the gameplay and story more focused & succinct.

I thought the "movie" description of the game was unfair. If this is a glorified movie, then so are Mass Effect, MGS, Uncharted, etc...

Overall, I really enjoyed it & I wasn't let down in the slightest. It gets a solid 8.1/10 from me.

Ah, finished for a second time! This time on hard. Enjoyed it even more than the first.

Great game with issues that can easily be remedied in the future. Like I said in my review a couple pages back, the potential is endless here. I hope whatever it entails, Galahad is still the protagonist. I like him quite a bit and the actor who voices him did a job far above even the best of voice actors. As did a vast majority of the cast.

Splendid experience.

Speaking of movie descriptions, my father asked about the game today on the phone, and I e-mailed him few of my screenshots. His reply was that the graphics are stunning, and it looks like a movie. ;) He hasn't played other games than Solitaire, Mahjong and Tetris since Ports of Call on Amiga.

I've had this game since Monday of last week, and i still haven't beaten it, lol. I actually was really enjoying my time with it, but my desire to play games truly is at an all time low. Hoping to put some time in tonight, probably could beat it if I can just sit my ass down and play it.

Whelp, finally got a chance to play and finish The Order today.

I was a little unsure of the game from the beginning, but by the end of it I really enjoyed it. If such a big deal hadn't been made about the length of the game I really wouldn't have thought much about it.

The pacing was decent. The graphics were phenominal, although I don't think they blow Ryse out of the water as some have proclaimed. Most importantly I really enjoyed the story, and the acting really acentuated it.

As some have mentioned, the sound in this game was great. I played the entire game with headphones on, and it was a treat.

As for the bad, I do think there is a lot missed potential. The world has sparse exploration, and exploration is essentially pointless and empty. There are a lot of instances of stupid QTE's that could have just been left out, like pulling a lever in the middle of a cutscene. There is too much walking, and pointless meandering.

All in all, I really enjoyed the game and am excited where it could go. Hopefully RAD will have better direction with the next one and really unlock it's potential. I hate to say it, but the need to keep the setting and blatantly rip off the Uncharted formula of gameplay. They are almost there.

So i rented this game today it's pretty fun actually, and the graphics are really out of this world.
The actually shooty shooty isn't bad, it's actually pretty good. Given I haven't played a lot of TPS recently. The enemies could use more variety though.
I'm on chapter IX unlikely alliances or unlikely friends or whatever.
I think it'd be interesting to see the order 1887 with the two indian knights lakshmi and the cute one

Finished it on Hard an really liked it.
Story kept me entertained, Gameplay was good, Length was okay-ish.
The last few Gunfights were awesome.

And of course the Graphics are insane. I would recommend the game to friends.

Alright I guess I should leave my thoughts:

Pros:
-Insanely great graphics. No game has impressed me as much visually as this one.
-Superb voice work
-Moving and riveting soundtrack
-Fairly engaging storyline.
-Excellent production values
-Weapons were very creative and satisfying
-The core gunplay was pretty good

Cons
-QTEs must die in 2015. Cant stand em!
-The game was poorly paced with intermixing cinematics and combat
-Too damn short
-Human combat focus was off-putting
-The lycan combat was NOT satisfying
-Combat areas too cramped and claustrophobic

All in all, I would still give the game a decent 7/10, maybe 7.5. It sure as hell is NOT a 6/10.

If the do make a sequel, I hope they fix the core issues.

Oh and one more thing about a potential sequel:

The story seemed to keep hinting about the narrative continuing on in the Americas. I really believe a U.S. set sequel would be a great idea. The gunplay would be perfect for a Western set game. Hopefully they will pursue that idea. It seemed at the end the rebels were going to the Americas, so the story may as well follow them. Unless, they go with another time period.

If that happens, the sequel would go the same route as
Resistance 2. Hopefully it won't follow its route when it comes to changes for the worse. I would prefer another location though, as there are others that aren't as often used in games.

Same here. I will wait for a while before replaying it in the hope of photo mode being added.

same. Stayed up very late playing on my projector - jesus the detail in this game really looks amazing blown up big. Got the platinum with the help of a guide for the few remaining items I'd missed.

Will replay through if and when we get a patch that brings photo mode and skippable cutscenes. (They did get a bit interminable when you just want to get to the next section to find a newspaper)

Playing through a second time did make some points in the early game stand out as being ignored later on.
Percival is seen at least twice by Galahad talking to strange people, and when asked Percival says it is a long story
. It all feels like maybe
Percival
is up to something surreptitious. But then it is dropped and never mentioned again.
