damn. great month all around, really. february's become a real good month for sales in recent years, kind of a last hurrah until september for the most part.

surprised that wii u is up year over year again. still waiting for the other shoe to drop on that. i'm guessing that next month sales will decline month over month like last year, but mario party 10 is a stronger title than cabela, so it should be better than the 60k it achieved in 2014.

Good for Nintendo. Nice to see 3DS back on top. When was the last time that happened? December 2013? I'm glad that Monster Hunter is getting a foothold in the US. Bolds well for the franchise's future.

With probably dissapointing sales and not too great reviews I wonder what RAD will be doing next. Dunno if the Order being a series is set in stone anymore.

I think it's fairly simple - new hardware that can play games that the previous iteration cannot. Either way, it's nice for Nintendo that they found a way to prolong their handheld's life by getting existing customers to upgrade.
So N3DS launched without games? Odd, right?

Also where is this 300k for The Order number coming from out of curiosity.

People are basing it off the MH 290k number which includes digital. I think the assumption is that the Order would have comparable digital sales to MH, so the numbers would be similar. It could be way off base though if a majority of the MH sales were digital.

Right, sure. But this isn't like a DS -> 3DS upgrade and releasing a press release about the "DS Family." This is like a DS -> DSi upgrade. The N3DS certainly doesn't constitute distinctly different hardware just yet considering that its first exclusive is still a month off.

Double the system install base certainly helps.

I am almost positive Sunset would have charted it it were on PS4.

I don't think it would have, if it were on the PS4 it wouldn't have received the same amount of marketing and exposure it did being a Xbox One exclusive.

Then why was the DSi combined with the rest of DS SKUs? It had exclusive games. Lol at people who can't handle this.

10th place in February at 290k? That's unusually healthy, no? And the 3ds is showing some late generation life.

Good sales for Dying Light, the devs are on a roll. I thought Evolve would bomb, but it probably sold about as well as Bioshock in its first month, not too shabby.

I think Minecraft might be in the top 10 another 3 years.

I agree 100%.

Lol, what is this?

This thread seems more fanboy-charged than usual...

Well said.

As long as ps4 and ninrendo win we are good, those two deserve it.

Not fanboy-charged at all. Zelda + Nintendo on top is respecting the roots. Not that I wouldn't be happy to see Microsoft or Sony on top either, but Nintendo at #1 isn't something to be upset about.

Go videogames!

I honestly believe the industry could start remastering every game in order (starting in 1997) and it would still survive.

That might be our best hope for videogame preservation...

I'm not sure I follow.

If I understand correctly, Nintendo had the best selling SW SKU and total HW total while PS4 had best selling HW SKU and SW total

Lol higher digital sales on a nintendo console

Game came pre-packaged as a digital code, I could see that helping the digital number

It also came out in November the busiest game month of the year

Seriously here was Novembe NPD 2014 Top 10

1.) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (360, XBO, PS4, PS3, PC)
2.) Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
3.) Super Smash Bros. (NWU, 3DS)
4.) Madden NFL 15 (360, XBO, PS4, PS3)
5.) Assassin's Creed: Unity (PS4, XBO, PC)
6.) Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (3DS)
7.) Far Cry 4 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
8.) Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS)
9.) NBA 2K15 (PS4, 360, XBO, PS3, PC)
10.) Halo: The Master Chief Collection (XBO)

Please tell me how DA:I or Sunset Overdrive were suppose to crack into that? The Order wouldn't have charted here either.
Ha.. ya.. that would be a pretty hard month to crack with some of those huge name games.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I'm not sure I follow.

The following instead:

NPD Results Feb 2015 - Nintendo achieves double-kill (HW & SW SKU)

A user was displeased and thought it was misleading as although Nintendo achieved the number 1 position in both software & hardware charts, Sony led the software sales for February as a whole.

Isn't Wii U hardware possibly down this month from last year?

I mean January 2015 was 30% up January 2014.

Now January-February is up 20% YOY.

I don't have numbers but depending on them it could be lower or higher couldn't it?

Google Trends says yes, so far.. :p

Seems that Wii U has a better overall reception and more people know that's actually a new system.

Best February ever for Microsoft:

“Xbox One’s fan base continues to grow with record February sales in the U.S. for Xbox One and 84 percent more consoles sold compared to January 2015. In February 2015, fans spent an average of 74 hours on Xbox Live in the U.S. – three times the amount of hours the average user spends on social networks*. And, Xbox Live set new records, quadrupling global gaming hours on Xbox One and Xbox 360 in February 2015 compared to February 2014. We are grateful to our fans for choosing to play on Xbox One. Offerings and experiences will continue to expand with Xbox One and 'Halo: The Master Chief Collection' available together for $349, new games launching this month including 'ScreamRide' and 'Ori and the Blind Forest,' hundreds of new ID@Xbox games in development, and plans to make gaming even better on Windows 10 and Xbox.” – Mike Nichols, Corporate Vice President, Xbox Marketing, Microsoft

That's physical and digital for the 290k from Nintendo, but NPD themselves don't include digital sales. MH4U physical is less then 290k

The reason why The Order being above 300k retail copies is becuase once digital and world wide is factored in it should be at or close to 1 million already world wide. That is pretty successful for a single platform new IP. It will likely turn a profit if it hasn't already and will get a boost after sales and bundling. It could have performed better, but it is far from poor.

With probably dissapointing sales and not too great reviews I wonder what RAD will be doing next. Dunno if the Order being a series is set in stone anymore.

They obviously have a phenomenally talented production team so I'm sure they'll get another shot at a cherry title. They just need to borrow from sources outside of Sony's Uncharted/Heavy Rain comfort zone next time, and throw in some of the longevity that the modern consumer expects.

For a studio that hasn't released anything else for over 3 years, I wouldn't be surprised if those mediocre sales (for the amount of money spent on the game) and weak reviews for The Order meant that Ready at Dawn is in serious trouble at the moment. Going to be very hard to get a publisher to greenlight anything from them now. I'd expect at the very least layoffs with a chance of total studio closure.

Surprised that Majora's Mask & Monster Hunter did so well. Even more surprised that a Dragon Ball game charted - didn't realize that the IP was still relevant after all these years.

Just because the software isn't out yet doesn't mean the hardware isn't different. The PS4 was new hardware even when it had no games(tm) :p

But seriously, I have no problem bundling them together, and I'm always one to argue that the Game Boy and Game Boy Color should be counted separately.

it's up ~15% YoY for February

I expect it to be up YoY until May, when 2014 will have Mario Kart (actually given May 2014's 60k, it might even hold for one more month)

after that, it's all downhill, unless Splatoon actually becomes the next big thing somehow

Lol at people comparing October/November with Februry. You could release a game called Poop: The Game in February and it would have had a chance at cracking the top 10.

Hmm they sold 1.7 million already in the slow months.

Yeah but sales are volatile. The tune can change pretty quickly, one month you're partying and the other you go "oh shit where is plan B??".
Don't forget that they just lost in the US the last holiday season and in January their numbers were significantly down yoy.
They have to try to avoid a significant yoy decline for the year and that's not an easy task to accomplish when you sell as much as they did so far.
Imo you can consider (at least) a 50$ price cut (+ holiday bundles on top of that) to be all but confirmed later this year :p
Xbox will drop to 299$ when their big software hits.
