Is there a way to get past
the rock near the bottom of Valley of the Wind? Is that one of the points of no return I heard about
?

So I unlocked the Energy Cell Marker ability, found every energy cell on the map.... And I'm at 13/15 :(

This is really going to bug me.

Confused by the final node skill off the Utility tree branch--'Ultra Defense' I believe? Anywho, is this supposed to be a shield of some kind? I've unlocked it, and I don't notice any reduction in damage taken...?

Misty woods confuses me. You can go back to it but not in its original form. So like the dungeons, it has inaccessible areas. I don't want to continue playing until i see some guides for this game. There's a sprig it jewel I have no idea how to get to. I posted a pic earlier in the thread.

How the hell do I get this?

How on earth are people beating this game so quickly lol. My first run took me 8:30 to complete, and in my speedrun I just finished the Ginsu Tree @ 38:37.

Just finished it.

Loved it. Definitely my favorite this gen. Can't wait for the NG+. Also, looking forward to see what Moon Studios comes up with next.

i think it'd be really cool if there was an "insane mode" like castle crashers with more aggressive enemies. you'd keep your abilities though.

bashing and a lot of sequence glitches to skip stuff. i'll speedrun for my own personal time, but there's no way i'm going to try for the leaderboard. current high score is 58 minutes with no fucking deaths.

I'm just happy I did the ginsu tree escape with only 1 failure lol. 0 deaths is so hard.

I am still relatively early into the game, but is it just me, or does the platforming seem a little too difficult at times? Not saying that playing Edge of Tomorrow is anything more than patience, but sometimes I just don't understand the point of having health. Is the health only for enemies? Because sometimes I'll land on some thorns and it will take 1-2 health orbs away, but then other times I'll instantly die for no apparent reason. I'm not talking about beams of death, or sliding stones either.

The jumping also feels strangely off too. Sometimes the character can't make a specific jump, and I have to try it ten times before I hit that magic pixle, while other times I keep overshooting what I am trying to land on by a mile, and I don't consider myself horrible at platformers either.

Maybe your tv lag is an issue? Platforming felt tight to me.

No. My 42'' is at 20ms and I've played plenty of other platformers on it. I know you get a double jump and potentially a triple later, but the early platforming just doesn't feel very precise. The platforming isn't necessarily my main issue with the game either. Randomly dying for no apparent reason when I have way more health than what is normally taken away from taking damage in the same spot is.

10 minutes after the Ginsu tree. Bash speeds the game up so much lol. Still not seeing how it's possible to beat it in 58 mins though. I'm 47 minutes in at the valley of wind.

You sure? I found a stone to PLACE in the valley of the wind. But in misty woods there was nothing at all. No fragment no stone. Only found a fragment in valley of the wind.
There is definitely one in the valley of the wind, I don't think there is one for the misty woods. The one for the valley is
in between the forlorn ruins and the windy part under sorrow pass, in the green section of the map

Just finished the game with 8:57. Props to Moon Studios for such a great job. The character designs, artwork, soundtrack, and gameplay were all solid. More importantly I never felt bored, and the different areas/levels had good variety and never overstayed their welcome. Only downsides are that you can't continue playing afterward and the points of no return.

Btw I finished with only 13/15 energy orbs. I'm curious as to where the last ones were since I cleared all the ones that show up on the map after getting the perk. I assumed they would both be in the last dungeon but I must've missed them.

Completed the Game, Got 100% on all of the map (discovered places), 83% of all secrets (fuck you ginso tree and forlorn ruins), and found 14/15 energy cells.

Has anyone here got 15/15 energy cells? I could not find that last one anywhere, I checked every nook and cranny.

There was one in the last dungeon in a secret area on one of the right side doors.

I just bought this game thinking it be as nice as rayman, but is definitely not even close, .... this game is a hundred times better,.... the graphics, the music.... WOW

Was the other energy cell the one in Misty Woods that Collingwood was referring to then? I honestly don't remember if I got one there or not.

Well, my first run had 11/12 energy and 14/15 spirit. On my second run my missing energy was in forlorn ruins and missing spirit in misty woods.

So by the end of this second run I should have 12/12 and 15/15

I got this last night and put about an hour into it. When I started today I played nonstop till I beat it. I absolutely love this game. It's probably my favorite game on the Xbox One. I ended up having 208 deaths by the time I was done and a few parts frustrated me but the game was just too good to let the hard parts get to me. I really hope for a sequel because I need more Ori.

well, I beat it, sorta. my PC struggled to keep up with this game until the ending where it dropped to like 1fps and then crashed. no achievement for me!

wasn't a big fan of the final sequence, but otherwise the game was really enjoyable. I might write up a post for Thomas and team tomorrow after I come to terms with how I feel about it.

Is there seriously now way to go back and collect stuff you missed after the final cutscene? Wow. Huge missed opportunity. I expected the game to let me do that once completed AND introduce a warping system among the save shrines that you encountered throughout the game, thus alleviating some of the tedium of having to walk inbetween the various sections. Can't believe it won't let me access my completed game save either now.

I had no idea I was about to hit the final 'Boss' as it were. Still had a few things I wanted to go back and get. That's disappointing. Doesn't help that I found the final section God-awful:
Forced scrolling in this game, not overly fun. Repeatidly killing me off on the very final section because I just can't work out that you're meant to walk up the wall that's covered in flames and bounce off it is ridiculous. Took me ages to realise how I could get up to the final lantern launcher to bounce my way up to the top. Ugh. Did not like that at all. I don't mind things like this when it's clear what you have to do. The second you introduce any ambiguity, fuck that. It's beyond frustrating.

Game is solid but those 9 and 10s out of 10 are crazy. Combat is lacklustre, boring and becomes annoying in places. It's gorgeous and plays well at least but perfect it ain't. Also, 5 hours and 30 minutes for a 95% first run seems a little short for this type of game. 286 deaths, and like some people here, around 40 of those might have been in the final boss run.

Don't mean to sound too negative, it's just that the final section really soured my feelings on the game as it collected all of the parts I had been mildly disliking previously and threw them into one annoying whole. Plus, I encountered a few really bad glitches. Nothing gamebreaking, but one that did halt progress until the scripting reset itself upon my death and one that meant that I missed an entire section of the dungeon where you first meet the spider dude. I accidentally saved myself into an area I couldn't get out of due to not having collected a certain ability. Suddenly the game teleports me to a cutscene with said dude but he's not being rendered. SUPER weird.

Finished the game on thursday, what a wonderful experience. Final death count was 326, although about 40 of those were from the final boss.

This game sure is pretty but man
a pre-scripted flood sequence that punishes you for navigating faster
? Bad design there if you ask me, just felt more cheap than challenging.

Yeah, so far it's been a great game but there are a few things like that are aggravating me.

It actually looks pretty great in 3D too. Similar to Rayman Origins and Legends but even better because there's more layers in the foreground and background. A few out of place shaders here and there but nothing too bad.

I dont know, i found the first escape frustating, the second one easy and the last one hard but after a few tries to memorize everything, did with no problem , and felt very good ta the end, like wanting to shout it FUCK YEAH I DID IT!

And really liked everyting, from the pacing, combat, backtracking to get stuff

And i finished with 8:25 (counting last cutscene etc)

But i understand that the escape might make people give less than 9 for this game... for me was 9~9.5 and easily one of the best games i played this year

So I'm stuck in the
Forlorn Ruins
thanks to a glitch that causes Ori to refuse to move forward or backwards at all while carrying the
Gravity orb thing
I literally cannot beat this part due to this, is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Edit: I decided to leave the level and see if that would fix it. It didn't. In fact, all it did was make it impossible for me to re-enter where I was. This is so unbelievably infuriating as I can see where I want to go and can slightly nudge myself once or twice, but that is it.

I just finished my first play through with 12/12 life and 14/15 energy. Where exactly in the misty woods is the energy cell? Anyway you could screenshot the location?

I'm not just marking it lower because of the final section (as annoying as it was) - the combat really drags the game down for me; the shooting in particular. Until you get enough upgrades, it's just tedious. There's barely any skill to it.

I really really enjoyed turning the enemies' weapons against them but, other than that, the fights were just dull or there to dampen the flow of the game. I don't think it was well developed at all.

Also, how many times did you use the explosion move? I barely used it because, in the heat of battle, it just takes too long to charge when just shooting everything is so much more efficient. The ground pound was only marginally more useful because it could help you dodge stuff. Overall though, while it isn't a huge part of the game, the combat still was lackluster enough to be detrimental to the package as a whole. Not massively so, but enough to be noticeable.

Was just on metacritic as I was curious where it ended up. Saw someone wrote a very long user review and gave the game a poor score. Was very upset about the tree escape and went on about how he had 25 years of gaming experience and could not beat it lol.

I get that the tree escape was hard but even my wife beat it. Granted it took her about 50 deaths but the only video game she has even beat in the last 10 years is South Park: Stick of Truth.

Game is great. Difficulty makes it better not worse.

Ori has some of my favorite combat compared to other platformers. Instead of directly attacking enemies, most encounters require you be creative and use the surroundings instead. If you aren't baiting or maneuvering around them, you're turning them around, juggling them in the air, stomping them, throwing them into spikes, and then blasting them with a Charge Flame for good measure. And you can do all of this without ever touching the ground in some cases. The spontaneity of bashing from one enemy to the other, stomping them and then chaining into a Charge Flame, which knocks back their projectiles while you launch into the enemy above you and then cling to a wall to dodge another attack - I mean, there's so much going on.

The game conditions you to rely on the Spirit Flame at first, but it's only one part of the arsenal (and not even the best option most of the time). I can see how that might be off-putting considering the nature of some encounters, and especially because of how short Ori's stun-protection is; however, in a genre were punching, shooting and stomping are overdone, I thought it was a refreshing change of pace. I especially appreciate how most of the attacks are focused on movement, and then the environments tend to have large open spaces to play around in.

It definitely needs to be refined, and there's a lot of potential for more unique abilities in the vein of Bash. I'd like to see Ori roll around like Yoshi (they probably tested and omitted this because of the spikes on the ground, but if you chain into it after a stomp, it could be less error-prone), or maybe command Spirit Ice to freeze enemies. Maybe an upgrade should have stunned the enemies as well. I noticed that Spirt Flame doesn't cause enemies to flinch (Charge Flame kinda does), which forces Ori to be a lot more agile to dodge incoming attacks.

Just finished. What an amazing experience and one of the best platformers I have played in years. Kudos to the devs, beautiful game, I can't wait to see their next.

After you finish the second dungeon? yep no way to go back

Wait, so after
the second dungeon, there is something in the actual map that is no longer obtainable? Or is this just something within the dungeon itself? I understand that you have to 100% complete a dungeon before you leave it or else you can't return, but it would be stupid to block off a part of the map after completing a dungeon not really related to the map. If this is the case though, which part of the Valley of the Winds isn't obtainable after the second dungeon? I'm at 98% complete with the Valley of the Winds before I'm about to enter the second dungeon.

Honestly, since i got the charged move i used everytime, and started using for even the simpliest enemies since (it was one shooting them) as soon as i got a lot of energy points.

But yeah, they went for a different kind of combat i think, wanted to try something more original than what was used in other metroidvania. Sure a normal ranged and melee attacks "could" turned out better but i liked the way it turned out to be. Very refreshing for a change. Hope they improve it for the next game.

Yep

On the second dungeon you can miss a life cell and i THINK, no sure, a energy cell too, on the third dungeon i got a ability cell. I finished with 11/12 life and 14/15 energy, so yep, lost both on forlorn ruins =/

I wish I can easily navigate this without reading spoilers. I'm about 4 hours in according to game time and having a blast!

Here's where i am:
I just cleared the Ginsu Tree and escaped the water rising! That was so awesome and intense. The water is clean and I can swim! I did the top tree route for abilities and now I can swim. I thought the game was broken but u unlocked that too early. Triple jump definitely helped. Can't wait to keep playing

But that life cell and energy cell are in the Valley of Winds and not the Forlorn Ruins, for sure? That's kinda stupid that it would be a point of no return for the outside map. I *think* I have everything I can get right now in the Valley of Winds (currently sitting at 98% there before I head into the second dungeon, but it sucks that I won't know for sure until after. I'm assuming I get an ability to beat down other types of walls because there's two different things in the Valley of Winds that I seemingly can't get right as of yet due to a lack of what I assume is the ninth ability.

Holy crap, the escape from
the Ginso Tree
... could we not have had a single bloody checkpoint during that? It must've taken me forty goes to make it through the whole thing.

Looked and sounded amazing, though.

Whelp 49/50 achievements. Just have No Stone Unturned left, but I'm one of many with the progress on it stuck. Been at 88% since my 2nd playthrough, and I've searched every secret/hidden area, all collectibles including small ability orbes and those blue things you break.

Only possibility is the easter eggs may count toward it. I haven't found those, but I doubt I'll get 12% from them.

Awesome game. Gonna start all over on another tag to work on the TA walkthrough and videos. :)
