Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae |OT| Brought to you by Coleman™

Worst number entry IMO.

It's soundtrack is it's only redeeming feature.

Only redeeming feature?

Nope.

Falk tell her I'm sorry for my 5/10.

Her music itself is great. My issue was with the sound design!

I'll do a full head bow apology and everything :(

You know what you have to do in the next demo's survey:

Oh, and Falk: don't forget giving Shimomura that crash course on western sound design as a small inspiration :p

Music not present in the worldmap is kinda concerning. In a sense that I can't see how they can both put one and at same time keeping that cool thing in which you hear from distance musics coming from local places like chocobo ranches and gas stations. So maybe... it's better not having overworld themes at all. The atmosphere you get getitng out of the woods and hearing a "town" is nearby through its sounds it's something I want them to keep in the final product. An overworld theme would remove that joy. Unless it's just there very rarely and briefly like in TES.

Hearing the wildlife is pretty cool as well, gives me MGS3 vibes.

Yup, that would be the best way to do it. I'm no TES expert, but afaik the songs play only once when you enter an area and then only again after a few minutes, right? I don't want the same song on loop for too long, unless it's varied enough and has down time with more ambient, quieter parts.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Probably Terra Battle and FFXV stuff.

Either case, we'll hear about it soon enough.

It's really cool to see you three at Anime Boston, though.

This time, strictly no due to the material in the setlist. (Some blogs may write about it soon, but as far as I know photos and video were strictly disallowed)

Well that was sooner than expected.

edit: Also a double post after an edit. Massive fail.

I believe others have said the same, but I like the way the field music works in Realm Reborn - short, catchy, atmospheric clips that fade in and out. That way you get the environmental sounds and atmosphere, but still have a music line associated with each area.

Wow, this is exactly what I want
them not to have in FFXV.

So, uh, anything you can tell us about that new FFXV music?? :D I am eagerly awaiting the YouTube audience cams.
That looks like it was an amazing setlist. Jealous of everyone who got to attend.
Shimomura's new piece for Terra Battle is really really good.
Big shocker, I know.

Yeah, that one is nice, posted it on here a while ago. Sounds like a scrapped, unused FFXV song.

But Lightning Returns had open world gameplay and great music that plays depending on your location and the time. I think they should do something similar here. Not having any music on the worldmap is really sad :(

No field music is fine for me...as long as the footstep and the ambient sound are clear and pronounced. And of course, beautiful scenery with interesting level design that needs no background music to make the exploration fun. I think this wasn't quite the case in Episode Duscae.

Apparently, A Realm Reborn actually have some real beautiful fantasy landscape with many uneven surfaces and competent world design in general. Really hope that carries over to XV.

Yeah, I liked how LR handled it in practice, although it's probably my least favorite soundtrack of the XIII saga piece-by-piece.

Yeah, the music in LR never got annoying, but to be fair, its world isn't as huge as FFXV's, they reused many older tracks from the prequels for random locations and thus most songs were never played that long or the songs were always changing, anyway. Plus they had different songs for the morning, afternoon, evening and night time for every main area.

For example:
- The Wildlands:

- The Dead Dunes:

Still doesn't compare to Xenoblade's, but FFXIV would look great for a Final Fantasy game.

I went to do the survey, on the first question I accidentally reloaded the page now I can't do the survey anymore cause my code is used.

Well, fuck, I fucked up.
Oh well...

It's all your fault if the final XV sucks.

I was going to deliver biting feedback to polish the combat system and encounters to a diamond. Tips for enthralling character dialogue. As well as the changes to summons and world that we all wanted deep in our hearts.

Now they'll never get my responses.
I've failed. XV will never achieve its potential and its all my fault.

I was gonna post the link to survey monkey which didn't need any demo code, but it is asking for password now. Huh.

Rest assured however that the feedback you were planning to provide are most likely already covered by the rest of us.

I don't fully expect them to actually reach the heights of Xenoblade as Monolith Soft is one of (if not) the best in the industry when it comes to world design, but they could at least try.

Every cloud has a silver lining.
Maybe this isn't my calling, maybe I should be preaching about the wonders of Type-0 instead and bring about an age of Type-Next.

Hm...
After entering the code but before the questions it mentioned to me something about a password.
The password was "Behemoth".

Eh, I know what you mean, but I still don't think this is a fair comparison. They just have two totally different artistic visions regarding the world design. If SE had decided to make the world look more outlandish and fantastical they could have easily done that, too. FFXIII-saga has proven that for years. The Duscae area, at least, is clearly meant to resemble simple, "boring" grasslands like in real life. We don't know any other area. Let's wait for E3.

Combat in XBX seems fine for what it is. What actually is a bit scary are the faces. Honestly creeps the shit out of me and I have a high tolerance for stylistic/visual experimentation.

If I buy Type 0 on PSN is it to late to get the demo? I'd rather not drive around town looking for a day one edition.

Ff15 combat is better then xenoblade by a mile.

I can't stand how Xenoblade's combat looks... Such a terrible shame too because the environments are downright gorgeous.

Yup, XBX's faces are atrocious. Easily the worst design I've seen in a JRPG for a long time and I played Xenosaga Ep1 :D Ep2/3's were a huge improvement, though.

Also the MMO-like combat looks way too floaty and janky for me. Seems boring and uninvolving, just from the footage at least. To be fair, we should wait for the full game. Xenoblade's battle system was fine for the 10h or so I played, so maybe XBX will be okay. Still, XBX shouldn't even be compared to FFXV, anyway.

Even then, I still remember EP2 looking very similar to EP1. Like I said, I must have instead purged EP2 from memory.

Ep3 is the best of the three (imo).

EP3 was just great.

Yuki Kajiura's music. :')

The Xeno pseudo-series secretly has some of the best music in the industry and features some of the best composers. I'm disappointed that Sawano is composing for the new one, but I still can't think of a better fit for that kind of game.

I thought it got better with every episode, honestly. I don't get the hate for Ep2. Maybe I was too enthralled by the story, though I don't even remember remotely what is was about anymore. Probably the most convoluted, crazy story in gaming history (at least as much as Xenogears) :D Loved that kind of stories when I was younger, but I really hope that FFXV won't get batshit crazy towards the end and stays more grounded. No more deus ex machinas or killing gods, please.

Also I liked how all 3 episodes had totally different gameplay and art style. Played them all in a row and couldn't stop. Some of the last few, non-FF JRPGs I devoured and finished since '09.
