GTA V PC Full Graphics Options Revealed

HBAO = Nvidia cards
HDAO = AMD cards

This is how it is, right?

No.

Both HBAO and HDAO can run on Nvidia/AMD cards.
See Far Cry 3 or any game using HBAO or HDAO.
HBAO+ in most games I've seen can run on AMD cards and surprisingly the performance hit is not any worse.

I still have hope for a Red Dead Redemption PC port.
Maybe if Rockstar release a RDR HD remaster. But it's safe to say the original RDR won't ever come to PC.
That has been clear since 2011.

I'm honestly surprised that HBAO+ isn't in the game.
Nvidia has TXAA and PCSS in there.
I wonder why it wasn't included.
Maybe it didn't play nice with R* lighting system?

That's it! Come on, it's coming pretty hard on best time ever game lists! No way it goes down with prev gen. And when it comes, our PC's will be there, and give it a warm welcome!

So according to R* the recommended specs are not only for 1080p/60fps but also for the high settings:

If they legit reckon I am getting 1080/60 @ High from my 670 I'll be happy but it seems rather optimistic. Unless they have optimised the living shit out of this game (they have delayed it for nearly 2 yrs though I suppose)

If it's anything like the Max Payne 3 port I don't think they have any reason to fib or overestimate. However, I imagine these are only estimations for GTA V's single player not GTAO

But is it "maxed"?

Seriously tho, y'all are almost making me cave and buy it before release.

High =/= Very high. It'll be pretty much the PS4 version at 60fps.

Are you sure that is an official response? They mention "ultra" and we know there is no ultra setting, just "very high"

We've seen plenty of games where a PS4 version ran on a mixture of settings or lies somewhere in between. I don't really understand how people can come straight to such a conclusion without much info to go on

I believe the Post FX option goes up to ultra.

Plus I would consider the Population,Draw distance and Shadow distance sliders Ultra if they are maxed out.
Then Soft Shadows AMD CHS and Nvidia PCSS would technically ultra as well.

Do we know how high the Ambient Occlusion and Tessellation Options are yet?

Something along those lines most likely, or maybe it was too costly to implement.

It's nice to dream, I have lost hope 4 years ago. Bought it used and completed on PS3, ran like shit and subhd.

Gotcha, thanks. But isn't there also a general opinion that you use HBAO if you have a Nvidia card and HDAO if you have a AMD card? I can recall this being a thing.

I played the it on my brother's xbox 360. Did not beat it though: spent way more time watching him play.

Maybe, I never had issues running either.

Trust me on that you really don't want to "play" console versions of RDR. As good as the game is the experience is not good at all.
It's strange to me that Rockstar never ported it to PC when you factor in the seemingly huge demand.
I think JaseC's theory is correct, RDR's meteoric rise caught R* by surprise and they could not fit a PC port in their schedule.

Not sure if an OT is necessary. I don't know if many people are discovering it for the first time.

A performance thread has to be done though.

MeltedSOX is a former Modder who got hired by R* so it seems to be legit.
But will know on release date for sure.

Hmm, if true, it's making me quite optimistic with my 770 2GB and i7 4770K. If the game's as optimized as it seems, then I'll happily eat crow regarding Rockstar's motivations for the delays.

If an i5 3470 @ 3.2GHz and a GTX 660 2GB can get 60fps @ 1080p on high.

I can definitely go very high (or ultra, whatever you want to call it) with my i7 4770k @ 4.2GHz and a GTX Titan SC @ 1440p.

Suck it Qassim.

I wonder if they're going to actually make the motion blur option work on the current gen consoles though. It's been there since 1.07, but it does nothing.

I decided to reinstall GTA 4 in anticipation for 5 and I forgot how incredibly painful the installation process was. Took me 2 hours and I already had a GFWL and RSC account.

Hey, my main problem was your assumption that if you cannot hit a particular baseline experience, then the game was automatically "unoptimised". Little more than that. I felt your stipulations with "max" (e.g. FXAA and without PCSS) were a lot more reasonable than most other similar comments in this thread.

I swear I'll be the happiest man alive when this godforsaken game finishes [successfully] downloading.

This was one of the main reasons to why I got it on Steam, I didn't trust that their downloader would work anywhere near as good as Steam.

Doesn't bode well for the online servers at launch. :p

How long have you been downloading? I'm at 20.91GB and I've left it on for 1.5 days. Keep getting "Connection to download server lost. Reconnecting..." and I have to pause/unpause rinse repeat

fuck is this

Don't expect to play online on launch day without problems. Servers are definitely going to get hammered. :p

Well I have a different problem. 4 days of downloading at 256 - 300kb/s and I am now going over 59gb perpetually

Edit - oh it actually finally finished! 39mins from reaching the 5 day mark

Not even gonna try to get in when it launches, since it goes live at 1AM. Gonna wake up at 8-9 and hope it will work okay by then.

Download the files through a torrent and put them in the game folder, should be much faster than what you are currently getting. Saw that someone else had done that.

I still don't feel this is likely.
I want to agree but also look at this as a last gen engine with some new gen multi core optimizations. I think people might be surprised how well this runs vs GTA4. That game left a bad taste in terms of optimization but everything that's been shown and done on current gen versions bodes well for the PC release.

I'm pretty confident in being able to run with everything as high as possible on my 5930k/970SLI rig at 1440p/60fps.

Seems like this release will be pretty big. Probably the biggest since Skyrim on PC. DL speeds from the SC might not be as good as Steam.

I'm upping all the options save for the sliders, which I'll probably put around half way, and locking it to 30fps at 1440p.

That's a great rig so maybe, but I'm talking about getting double the framerate of the PS4/XB1 version with equivalent graphic settings on a 660/7870.

My big concern with Rockstar's servers is the inevitable online check. I doubt it'll be an always online game but I'd be surprised if it didn't call home every once in a while, and then everyone's screwed when the servers drop.

edit: I don't have any special information. Just a hunch that Rockstar is so terrified of piracy that they'll incorporate some shitty DRM.

I probably shouldn't have pre-ordered. But hay, I really want to try out my new video card.

They have said it's only a first time online activation and you can play offline forever after that.

On and off since the first day. The first two nights I only spent 30 minutes or so downloading and I didn't leave my PC on overnight. Last night I did and it only reached 48GB, but since waking up it has failed twice at the last hurdle. I comes up with a message saying 'verifying...' (I can't remember the exact text as it came and went in a split second), but I wouldn't be surprised if it was failing because it can't 'see' enough free space to unpack the game on release day (I'd only have 34GB free with it fully downloaded). After trying again it resumes at 44GB of 55GB, which I don't get. I gave up and I'm now downloading it, without user interaction, on my laptop in the hope I can move across the files and finish the installation on release day.

That was a bit of a hyperbole I admit, I wouldn't say it would be unoptimized, just would that I would be disappointed based on all of the preview information we have gotten so far.

When I said max, I mean everything very high, sliders to the right (even the extended ones) with FXAA and lack of PCSS being the lower options. Easier to say and people undestand. I really don't care to argue semantics, you know what I mean and I know what I mean by max. Plus based on research, PCSS makes a minor difference that would only be noticeable in screenshots, it's not like I'll be losing on much. And FXAA would be my first go to option, and depending on the frames I might increase to TXAA, but I know based on Watch Dogs, TXAA is a heavy burden on the GPU.

I mean we are all just speculating and hoping for the best. I'm still, in the back of my mind, wary of all the PR speak. At this point, I'm cautiously optimistic, and hoping for the best.

But also the point is, why would it be bad if they included settings that you GPU couldn't handle at max settings? That's a great thing! It'd be incredibly disappointing if they've included all these settings and then they cap them so low.

As for all the preview information, they've been emphasising scalability. That means scalability at the high end and the low end. I don't see why it'd be disappointing if they include settings your GPU isn't capable of?
